Gearbox has taken great care with their treatment of these RTS classics, going so far as to hire on some of the original developers to assist with their work. The visuals are a clear stand-out, but the classic gameplay still shines through in 'Homeworld Remastered Collection.' For enthusiasts who have been struggling to find a suitable medium on which to play 'Homeworld', this is the perfect gift of nostalgia and modern gaming sensibilities. For those who are inexperienced with the series and have any interest in the RTS genre, this compilation will keep you entertained for quite some time.

Homeworld 1 and 2 were classic real-time strategy games in their original forms, with the exception of some of difficulty issues. The Homeworld Remastered Collection brings the series back in a thoughtful approach that keeps intact the original gameplay experience, while also masterfully recreating the visuals and sound. By utilizing original artists and voice actors, it's clear a great deal of work has gone into bringing the Homeworld series to the modern era of gaming. The epic scale of space battles and awe-inspiring backdrops they take place in make the Homeworld Remastered Collection a must own for real-time strategy fans.

I'm not sure the Homeworld games were first built with the expectation that they'd stand the test of time like this, but because there was so much care, because there's been nothing quite like them since, and because the remastering has been sensitive, this package comes across as beautifully timeless, and as essential as real-time strategy gets. Welcome home.

The huge amount of work that went into modernising and reinterpreting the many visuals, from the ships to the wonderfully abstract nebulous backdrops feel like a massive love letter to both the original game, and to the fans who love it.

A near perfect remastering of a classic strategy game, that succeeds not just because of nostalgia but because there's never been anything else quite like Homeworld.

Gearbox has set the bar for how to update an old game for a modern audience. The slick new UI, the minor control improvements, and the updated graphics make these two strategy masterpieces into an experience even greater than the originals.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection is an excellent example of how to bring classic RTS gameplay into modern gaming. While there are a few issues with pacing at the beginning of games, the fluid combat, three-dimensional strategy and excellent attention to detail makes this a hugely unique and immersive gameplay experience.

Gearbox Software today owns the Homeworld IP and remastering the originals might seem a 'cash grab' at first glance, but considering the enormity of their effort to bring Relic's space RTS masterpiece of the late 90s and early 2000s into today's gaming arena, they more than prove their commitment.

A classic sci-fi saga that's stood the test of time. Thanks to a sympathetic visual update, the graphics look spectacular even by today's high standards, while the well-balanced gameplay and excellent mission design haven't dated much at all. Old fans might not like the way the original Homeworld has been fixed to reflect changes made for the sequel, but it's great to see two legends not just return, but reaffirm what made them legendary in the first place.

With space battles now more spectacular than even the evergreen Eve Online, and with far less effort required to enjoy them, this sees two excellent games restored. While in a past it was tricky to argue a decisive case for either of the Homeworld games for greatest RTS of all time, now they've been forever merged, updated and supplemented with the original games, the collection is indispensable.
