Bayonetta 2 Reviews
In many ways, 'Bayonetta 2' comes close to being a masterclass in hack and slash style, but is invariably held back by some of the genre's usual flaws.
The rhythm of combat remains the same, though it's hard to complain when it's riffing off such a heady beat, where chimed enemy attacks are lithely dodged into slo-mo pugilism, where impossible combos culminate with a 20-foot boot weaved from hair crashing from the heavens and where spinning amidst the avalanche of colour and cartoon violence is Bayonetta herself, stopping only briefly to wink at a player exhausted by the unrelenting joy of it all. Bayonetta 2's biggest disappointment may be that it's an iterative sequel, but it's not such a problem when it's iterating on genius.
Bayonetta 2 builds on everything that made the original great, and delivers one of the best action games of the year.
More of the same is absolutely fine, as Bayonetta delivers her trademark action in true style. This sequel takes too long to get going and can feel harshly unfair, but when it's at its peak, the action is breathtaking.
Crazy moments, smooth combat, and seemingly endless options help this sequel match its predecessor
Bayonetta 2's blatant over-sexualization puts a big dent in an otherwise great game
Bayonetta 2 is a classic in the making, and one of the finest, most wonderfully insane action games ever made.
Platinum Games' sequel delivers nuanced, non-stop action that stands among the best in its genre.
Bayonetta 2 represents a master class in over-the-top set pieces, filled with dozens of giatn bosses and absurd situations to test your reflexes.
The Wii U unexpectedly gets one of the best games of the year. Buy it.
Bayonetta 2 is brilliant, brash and impossible to ignore.
Despite being a three-plus-year-old port, Bayonetta 2 shines brightest on Nintendo Switch. It runs without a hitch at 60fps, looks incredible in both TV and tabletop modes and offers an addictive free-flowing combat formula that sprinkles in platforming, light exploration and a ridiculous story to create something that you simply need to experience. If you've never played it for before, you're in for a treat. If you've already played it, it's even more bewitching as a handheld gem.
Bayonetta 2 is surprising. Some of that is because it is an M-rated Wii U exclusive. It's also because it is a good game in a genre that doesn't seem long for this world. With everything moving open-world and online, Platinum is still sticking to it's area of expertise. And it's working.
An absolutely phenomenal sequel, and one of the best games the Wii U has to offer.
Bayonetta 2 remains one of Platinum's best games, and is a treat on Switch just as it was on Wii U.
Bayonetta 2 is a system seller. It's a Nintendo-published game that is rarely seen, and a game that will legitimately make non-Wii U owners jealous.
This is one of the rare games that balances appeal to both genre newcomers and hardcore action game heads, without sacrificing anything for it. Bayonetta 2 proves to be one of the — if not the — greatest action games and should not be missed under any circumstances, despite any reservations on the titular character's design choice.
Bayonetta 2 is still an essential game despite the time since its launch on Wii U. This version may not provide excessive improvements or novelties, but if you didn't play at the time, you are facing the perfect opportunity to do so.

A fantastic sequel and one of the greatest action games ever made, and now available on a format that people actually own.
Bayonetta 2 is, along with its predecessor, one of the best stylish action games ever. The Switch version doesn't add much, but if you haven't played it yet, you have to.
