Jagged Alliance 3 Reviews
A legendary, ancient series is back and better than ever with more firepower and personality than Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Daniel Craig rolled into one.
A must-play turn-based tactics combat simulator elevated by memorable characters, over-the-top action and deep RPG elements.
Jagged Alliance 3 is a flexible, challenging, approachable throwback turn-based tactics game in which the only thing that feels truly dated is the humor.
I had my doubts about if Jagged Alliance 3 could really tap the joy I felt in commanding mercenaries back in Jagged Alliance 2. This is a series that predates most tactical strategy we know, but it’s had some bumps along the road. Jagged Alliance 3 can’t be counted among those bumps. It’s a proficient and beautiful return to form for this franchise with a wealth of options inside and outside combat. It’s also a tough game to overcome, but with all of the options at your disposal, finding your path through the breathtaking landscapes of Grand Chien should be an exciting and varied blast every time. I’ll have a hard time putting anything else in the strategy category above this when the year ends.
Jagged Alliance 3 is a near-perfect and playable recreation of an issue of Soldier of Fortune Magazine that has great gameplay to boot.
Jagged Alliance 3 takes a familiar yet improved-upon turn-based experience, a unique resource management system, 4x-Lite strategy and a satirical setting bursting with character and tosses them all together. While the turn-based combat isn’t going to be everyone’s favorite aspect of the game, it is easy to say that Jagged Alliance 3 hits way more than it misses and offers plenty more for players to enjoy.
Jagged Alliance 3 restores the glory, guts, and joy to a tactical RPG series too long abused. Realistic weapons mix with nail-biting combat, larger-than-life characters, and a challenge so good, you'll be begging for another hit.
Jagged Alliance 3 is a compelling blend of deep strategic gameplay, immersive storytelling, and memorable characters. Its engaging visuals, impactful choices, and captivating setting make it a must-play for tactical RPG fans and newcomers alike.
I really like Jagged Alliance 3. I am already at 120 hours in the game and have had a lot of fun figuring it out. Even with the aspects of Jagged Alliance 3 that I was less thrilled with, I still had a lot of time with it and expect to return to the game to try out future mod content and (hopefully!) whatever DLC that Haemimont Games releases. I definitely recommend this title if you like squad-based turn-based tactical games!
Haemimont Games had the almost impossible task to create a worthy sequel to the 1999 tactical classic. While “Jagged Alliance 3” does have some rough edges here and there, it’s easily the best turn based tactical shooter I played in 2023 and I don’t think any game will topple it.

Jagged Alliance 3 manages the impossible, as Haemimont Games delivers a worthy follow-up to Jagged Alliance 2, and successfully modernizes this long dormant tactics series.
Jagged Alliance 3 represents the comeback in a big way of turn-based combat strategy games, and it is so compelling that it may revive a genre lately dedicated only to a few hardcore fans. The reckless choice of not showing the probability of hitting turns out to be successful, as it makes each firefight unpredictable, forcing us to risk it all on several occasions. The only flaw in this excellent production is the artificial intelligence of the enemies, who sometimes spare us with no reason or seem prone to suicide. Anyway, it still remains a must have.

With all of that being said, Jagged Alliance 3 nails a lot of what it is trying to do. Gripes about financial pressure and perk points aside, the majority of gameplay is a ton of fun. It rewards tactical thinking, and with a skillful approach, you can watch your mercs absolutely rain hell down on a superior enemy force. Considerate use of special abilities and equipment is important as well, and rarely is any fight just an easy shootout. The execution isn't perfect, but Jagged Alliance 3 is simultaneously a love letter to the tactical games of old while also proving that their gameplay can still feel modern and fresh decades later.
The third chapter of this beloved series is very near the level of quality that one expects from the heir of Jagged Alliance 2. A shame that "very near" does not mean "on par", so some details and some unrealistic aspects of the game could ruin the experience.

Jagged Alliance 3 marks a long-awaited triumphant return for the franchise, with the last undeniably great release being Jagged Alliance 2 over twenty years ago. Creating an exceptional balance on both a strategic and tactical level, bringing back character attributes and progression, an entire inventory system, perks and more, forcing you to balance your broader economy and ensuring you can't just sit back - Haemimont Games have successfully created a game that will challenge, that I have found compelling and fun, and one that has kept me hooked into a "just one more day" loop and a few very late nights at that.
After beating the story in Jagged Alliance 3, I still really wanted to play more. I want to try out every merc on the roster, and learn how to use each of their unique abilities. There are fights that I want to play again, this time with a new approach. Fans of turned based action will find Jagged Alliance 3 to be a genre-best game. But I’m probably going to play those gunfights with the volume turned way down. After all, I’m not in Grand Chien for the atmosphere and the company. I just want to find new ways to blow stuff up.
If you don’t mind a high entry threshold, many references to the 80s' popculture, a simple war story and some really dry humor, Jagged Alliance 3 is for you. And if you loved JA2 – don’t even hesitate.

Starting with a few hiccups, Jagged Alliance 3 quickly becomes a very good way to spend one's time and just doesn't loosen the grip until you finish it. Sometimes not even then.
"Jagged Alliance 3" perfects the mix of management simulation, tactical battles and role-playing elements and inspires with humorous dialogues and a constantly surprising game depth. Even if minor flaws in controls, camera work and overview in the battles are occasionally frustrating, the game is one of the best titles of the year for strategy fans. However, one drop of bitterness for all those who want to get excited about the series for the first time remains: The high level of difficulty and the very many, very poorly explained elements make the introduction to "Jagged Alliance 3" a test of patience. But if you take the time, you will definitely be richly rewarded here.

There's a few bolts that could be tightened up here and there, but Jagged Alliance is back in business.
