I loved every single second of my time with Fort Solis, and as well as piecing together everything and exploring the site, I spent too much time nosing around through my co-workers emails and private effects under the guise of uncovering the story, but it was as much fun finding out snippets of my co-workers lives outside their work. It’s a fantastically weird amalgamation of Total Recall, Sunshine and the walking simulator Death Stranding, but all packaged in a sometimes-claustrophobic, always-atmospheric package.

While it marvelously blows up during the final moments of its descent, Fort Solis is a mostly successful voyage. Puzzling together what happened at the station is an engaging exercise that incentivizes players to inspect every computer and voice recorder in order to shine light on its dark mysteries. Its narrative doesn’t seem to branch much or push forward in any new directions, yet it achieves its modest goals rather well. Fort Solis was misused as a facility by its staff, but Fallen Leaf and Black Drakkar have utilized it well to tell one effective sci-fi thriller.

While Fort Solis might have seemed promising, the odd design choices, such as not being able to spring or run, coupled with QTEs that otherwise ruin the gameplay, sadly sabotages the game. This is a shame as the game features some lovely visuals thanks to Unreal Engine 5, a compelling narrative, and some amazing performances from industry veterans.

if attention had been paid to gameplay and pacing, then things would be much, much better

Fort Solis has severely untapped potential, and while it's great that the developers put more energy into the graphics and voice acting, they could have just carved out more time for a better story or interaction with the items. It can feel like a minor horror game and will force you to keep playing only to find that the story doesn't have much to offer, nor will it give you a reason ever to turn it on again.

Fallen Leaf was clearly aiming to put storytelling and exceptional visuals as its main targets with Fort Solis. They easily achieved the latter.

In the end, Fort Solis feels more like a project that stumbled its way through development rather than one that confidently defined its purpose. It tries to be both a video game and an interactive work, but doesn't quite shine in either category.

Fort Solis' aspirations of big-budget, television-like storytelling nails the look and sound in spades. But its execution may leave players wanting, especially those searching for a viable video game.

Overall ‘Fort Solis’ is an incredibly immersive cinematic experience that dares to push the boundaries in ways that some would not take kindly to, while others will see it for what it truly is trying to achieve. While it is short, clocking in at just over 5 hours, it is an experience that will leave a lasting impression on your mind.

Fort Solis is a beautiful, yet very boring game with a stellar cast and walking simulator-like gameplay.

Fort Solis would've been a great experience if not for it being a literal walking simulator. The story thrills at the beginning and then fails to explain what happens, and the characters slow movement makes exploration a chore that we couldn't wait to get over with.

Fort Solis is technically great from a graphical and audio perspective. The issue is that the narrative and gameplay do not match up, being poor by any standards. It's challenging to get into Fort Solis, from poor pacing and storytelling to gameplay that is boring at the best of times - primarily thanks to some of the slowest movement speeds in gaming today. When you are in, you'll be glad to get back out as soon as possible.

Fort Solis provides a fun mystery, a good level of suspense and some engaging characters well grounded by the great performances behind them.

A solid effort even if it retreads well worn ground. Space horror without the combat.

The fact that Fort Solis is devoid of gameplay isn’t what made it so unbearable to experience. Filling it with clunky walking physics, pointless quick-time events, and plot decisions only a braindead idiot would make, are what ruined it for me. It is an impressive showcase of what Unreal Engine 5 can provide to smaller games, but also a game so devoid of interesting interactivity I can’t help but think it would have been a better experience had I just decided to watch someone play it on YouTube, or if the devs just decided to turn it into a movie (it’s as short as one).

It’s been a long time since I hated a game as much as I hate Fort Solis. From top to bottom, there literally wasn’t a single thing about the game I liked. I’m sure I’ve played games that are more poorly made than Fort Solis, but for sheer dislike, I can’t think of many games that come close.

Fort Solis isn't without its issues, but the sci-fi adventure game tells an interesting mystery and is unafraid to deal with ambiguity. Troy Baker puts on a marvelous performance that is likely the year's best in video games, and he has enough compelling material for it not to be wasted.

Although Fort Solis may be a pretty game to look at and listen to, its core gameplay mechanics and rendering issues hold it back. At its price point, it is more a flavor of the month with a big name rather than an interactive experience that many will enjoy.
