Fate/Samurai Remnant is a game for lovers of Japanese productions, who like long hours of storytelling and don't mind the most humble graphic skills. By turning Musou's gameplay into an Action RPG with some depth and strategy in the mix, Type-Moon and Omega Force pull off some good moments, but it's not strong enough to hold up for all the hours the narrative needed. Still, you might be pleasantly surprised by Fate/Samurai Remnant.

Fans of the Fate series and Japanese action RPGs in general should give this game a look as it provides a mostly rewarding experience during the 40-hour+ playtime. As you’ll also get a few history lessons related to the game’s setting, this is a good way to learn something without reading through reams of textbooks.

Fans of the series will certainly be able to appreciate its take on the formula and how it connects to the wider series, and despite the game’s weaknesses, its story should be more than strong enough to get new fans into the franchise.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a fun action RPG with top notch cutscenes and voice acting that will leave fans of the Fate works all satisfied, but the padding was too much it felt like it was there to justify the game's price.

Performance issues aside, Fate/Samurai Remnant is a hugely enjoyable action RPG that showcases a strong evolution of the very familiar Musou formula. Dynamic combat, rewarding exploration, loads of content, and an appealing art style all work in this one's favor, though be warned that the story can get a bit too verbose at times. All the same, we'd give this one a recommendation both to anyone looking for a decent action RPG to add to their collection and to any fans of Warriors games. Fate/Samurai Remnant is well worth your time - if you can handle the performance dips on Switch.

Fate/Samurai Remnant offers a balancing act of anime-style samurai epics paired with more focused combat in the style of the Warriors games. You can expect beautiful and numerous areas that also include equally barren arela, has a more tactical approach to the fights that doesn't last until the end, and gets a bit too lost in its repetition, although there are always new mechanics and enemy designs. A blade with samurais on one side and Musou on the other, though, where fans of either should definitely take a look. It definitely could have used more anime epicness though, as the opening suggests.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is easy to recommend to Fate newcomers who will have no problem jumping into the game. Series fans will also enjoy it, as they’ll be able to appreciate the references on a different level. In a year that is filled with major releases seemingly every week, Fate/Samurai Remnant manages to be worth your time from its opening scene to its last hours.

Even without any pre-knowledge of this series, everyone can enjoy the combat, action and stories between a master and their servant during the feudal society of the Edo era of Japan. Although the combat becomes quite repetitive while the protagonists develop stronger when the enemies somewhat never seem to learn their lessons, if you’ve heard of this series before, the game’s definitely worth a shot.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a very enjoyable title and one of the most interesting recent games of its kind. It remains a product that is extremely linked to the Fate franchise and aimed especially at the many fans of the Nasuverse.

Fate/Samurai Remnant works as an excellent introduction to its franchise. A few issues aside, the combat system is fantastic and pulls off the difficult task of remaining fun over a lengthy runtime, which is something that similar titles can struggle with. The story is also superb and acts as the main motivator for you to pull out your sword as you push forward into the next mob of enemies.

Omega Force delivers much more than a typical Musou game. Fate/Samurai Remnant has a deep story and nice gameplay elements, even though a few things get a bit too repetitive when you look at the time one playthrough of the game takes.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a lot of fun, with the compelling narrative and slick combat making for a very enjoyable action-RPG experience. There’s a lot to discover when exploring the world , whilst the Spirit Fonts mini-game adds an additional strategic element to what is otherwise a very action-driven experience. Sure, it could be argued that the core gameplay experience doesn’t offer too much you wouldn’t have seen before, but with Fate/Samurai Remnant offering plenty of thrills across the board, it’s hard to complain too much. It’s just a really cool game and one that’ll appeal to both long-time fans of the Fate series and complete newbies.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a must-play for fans of the Fate franchise and worth checking out for anyone who loves a good anime-style game. I can’t say it’ll win over all musou fans due to its focus on storytelling slowing the pacing, but I suspect it may convince those who typically shy away from musou games to give it a second look. In the very least, Fate/Samurai Remnant has a cool premise with fun characters that develop and grow as the story progresses, so if you’ve already had your eye on this one, you shouldn’t be disappointed.

Fate/Samurai Remnant offers a truly memorable experience with a powerful story, beautiful worlds but even better combat that rivals any other combat in the genre.

A surprisingly well-rounded package, Fate/Samurai Remnant has lots of ideas, and somehow makes them all work together well. It manages to satisfy both musuo-style combat aficionados and tactical strategy folk alike, with fast-paced slasher combat mixed with numerous abilities and an overarching territory control component that is deeper than it looks at first glance. The Fate history and lore can be a lot to take on board, and long stretches of dialogue feel like a burden to the pace of things, but an intriguing cast make this a solid entry point for newcomers with enough content to make long-time fans incredibly satisfied as well.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is one of my favourite action games of the year thanks to its epic combat and character growth opportunities that come together to make each battle feel personalised. It may start out slow but holy hot darn, do things escalate!

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a perfectly fun action-RPG, and it is as a great introduction to the Fate franchise for those who find the convoluted and complex series too difficult to get into. The story and gameplay are engaging and fun but don't reach the highs of something like Persona 5 Strikers, largely because of the focus on Iori's "weakness."
