Hellboy Web of Wyrd Reviews
It’s a dull, plodding slog that does a grave disservice to its source material, and you’d be wise to search out that source material instead of wasting a dollar or a moment on this game.
Hellboy's game is being slapped around by mainstream comics games as badly as Hellboy slapping mainstream comics.

Web of Wyrd is a fair roguelite that pampers Hellboy fans

In this case, playing Hellboy: Web of Wyrd is a sacrifice for the story, and a sacrifice so great that you wonder if it was worth it. It wasn't. The story is good, but even that only adds to the aftertaste of a game that seems to have everything but the pleasure of playing itself.

Hellboy: Web of Wyrd is a wasted opportunity to praise the great hero that Hellboy is. All combat mechanics work as well as possible, but they lack a lot due to their simplicity. The rogue-like aspects leave the feeling of having been made in a hurry and without any intention of elaborating them very deeply. This feeling of emptiness remains whenever we traverse the huge and repetitive maps or defeat the same enemies over and over again.

It stands as a visually stunning tribute to the Hellboy universe but struggles to deliver a gameplay experience to match.
Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a flawed game, from countless visual bugs to a clunky dodge, but the thing is that despite all this, the combat and overall package makes it one of the more fun titles I've played this year.

With a game that seems to have been forced to be something it was never conceptualized to be, Upstream Arcade shows just how challenging it is to create a good roguelike.

As a fan of the source material, I came out of Hellboy: Web of Wyrd very happy with how the game turned out. While it’s not something that will last me for months, the content that there is to be enjoyed is of loving quality and shows that the folks behind its development took care into valuing the property that was licensed. If you are unfamiliar with Hellboy and would like to change that, this game is a nice entryway that will definitely compel you to read the comics – just make sure you avoid that last movie, it’s very bad.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd offers an immersive gaming experience with its unique art style and gameplay mechanics but has room for improvement in terms of pacing and combat mechanics.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, the new work of Upstream Arcade, is a roguelike that pays homage to Mike Mignola's iconic character, but stumbling a few times along the way. Recommended for Hellboy fans who want to take control of the charismatic demon and indulge in slapping and smashing heads with a wonderful art style that perfectly captures the aesthetics of the comic.

When played in short bursts, Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a strangely compelling game, mostly thanks to its characters and defining art style doing a lot of heavy lifting. Despite its lack of compelling gameplay systems, there is something about the simplicity presented that offers some comfort in how you play the game, and the right person might still find some enjoyment in exploring the Wyrd.
Playing Hellboy Web of Wyrd was exciting at first but it quickly devolves into a repetitious formula that can easily put you to sleep.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd will delight fans with its visuals and Mignola-certified tale, but its roguelike nature and slow combat don't make the most of the source material.
Hellboy Web of Wyrd isn't the worst video game adapted from comics I've played, but it certainly could've been better. Lance Reddick delivers a wonderful performance in what is one of his final roles. Similarly, the Hellboy universe is as tantalising in its grim dark fantasy as ever before. It too has some fun brawler combat with upgrades that will make or break your run. This should be a roguelike foray made in harmony with one of the punchiest and most unique adaptation spins we've ever seen. Instead, Web of Wyrd is never in pursuit of anything all that meaningful. Narrative threads aren't all that engaging. The Mike Mignola art-style charm only lingers, ruined by the repetitive level design and jaunts through the same narrow hallways and combat scenarios. Never invigorating itself, Web of Wyrd is another in a long line of IPs adapted into video games that is, at most, a damn shame.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd is an insufficient game in almost every aspect. Unfortunately, the love that the development team must have for the franchise is not matched by an action roguelike, slow, cumbersome and terribly poor in variety.

Hellboy Web of Wyrd has the skeleton to improve in a sequel but it suffers at times despite having fun combat and sometimes fun roguelite elements.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd is full of style and runs perfectly stable as is typical of roguelite games. However, unlike the greatest games from this increasingly popular genre, it lacks enough of a hook to have players wanting to experiment with its mechanics. While the story can be entertaining, it's nothing too special.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd looks the part. It’s a gorgeous game and I was really hoping that it would deliver the vision for the character and comic in the same way that it captured the aesthetics. Sadly, instead, we got a stodgy roguelike that largely misses the point of what either Hellboy or the roguelike should offer. Equally sadly, we continue to wait for a truly great Hellboy game.
