Age of Mythology: Retold Reviews
Age of Mythology Retold is a true nostalgic delight that will remind many players of the great times spent on the family PC, between school assignments or after an afternoon snack. It belongs to that category of titles that are unlikely to leave the podium of the best strategy games anytime soon.

Age of Mythology was already a fun game back in the day, and one of Ensemble Studios' best works. With Age of Mythology: Retold, World's Edge and Forgotten Empires have taken it upon themselves to preserve everything that made this entry special, and modernize this title so that a wider audience has the opportunity to enjoy one of the best exponents of the genre. There's no doubt about it, Age of Mythology: Retold is the definitive way to experience one of the great RTS classics.

Age of Mythology: Retold is up there with the best RTS remakes thanks to its faithfulness to the original, myriad UI and aesthetic updates, and smart decision to leave AoM's enjoyable idiosyncrasies intact.
Age of Mythology: Retold doesn't redefine the genre but returning fans will not be disappointed and new ones may discover why RTS games were king of the hill in the not-so-distant past. Retold is mechanically solid, beautifully remade, and a blast to play with friends.
Arena of the Gods takes everything great about Age of Mythology: Retold and adds another layer of glorious RTS joy.
Age of Mythology: Retold has made significant upgrades to its RTS formula. Expanding on pantheons by using the power of the gods more often lets you experience the true force. Improvements to accessibility means learning the basics is easier for newcomers to the series. While the experience stumbles with more advanced concepts and is perhaps too reliant on faith for victory, you can still learn as you go. Age of Mythology: Retold has never looked better for fans new and old.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a masterful blend of nostalgia and innovation that fans and newcomers will both cherish.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a faithful remaster that lets players old and new experience the unique mix of base building, troop management, coupled with the control over heroes and monsters alike.
Age of Mythology may have been a risk some 20 years ago, but remaking it was a no-brainer. Retold feels familiar but fresh, and the changes made all feel like they only improve on one of the franchise's best entries.
Age of Mythology: Retold is both a solid RTS and reimagining, but a bit of an odd one as well. It brings enough changes to the table to offer a new experience, but at the same time one that is in other ways bound in the past. Both this and its less than optimal visuals make it feel a bit stuck between old and new.
While Age of Mythology: Retold still has a few flaws in its details, it doesn't stop the game from showcasing the unique charm of this classic RTS in a fresh new way, even 20 years later.

Age of Mythology: Retold is the perfect blend of past and present. The development teams wisely chose not to overhaul the foundations of one of the best RTS games ever made, focusing instead on fine-tuning and making significant improvements to the gameplay, which is now much smoother and more modern. Alongside these enhancements, the game boasts excellent graphics and a much more functional and intuitive user interface. The only aspect that ties Age of Mythology: Retold to its original era is the tone of the various campaigns, with a style of writing that may no longer appeal to today's players.

Much as I like the Age of Empires games, Age of Mythology's god powers and myth units dial up the fun factor significantly. The dramatic graphical update and small but sensible gameplay tweaks in this Retold edition make it easy to recommend for new and returning players alike.
Retold looks and feels just like we remember Age of Mythology from 2000s.

The return of another iconic RTS was successful, and the blending of the original gameplay with new graphics and mods was done well. It's not perfect, but the game is qualitatively better than many of its contemporaries. The settler priority system is currently unreliable, but it could gradually improve and eventually it will probably be a trend in modern strategies, where a few similar attempts have already appeared.

Immortal. That’s the word that best captures the timeless essence of Age of Mythology. Even now, remade for a new era with fresh values, its addictive gameplay and enduring storytelling continue to evoke the splendor of RTS greatness for a new generation of players. Yes, it may still bear some of the quirks and flaws of its original incarnation, but it also carries with it the brilliant game design that the world has long since forgotten. This is a tale retold—and one I’m eager to experience all over again.
Age of Mythology Retold delivers a masterful blend of nostalgia and modernity, preserving the original's charm while introducing significant visual and technical upgrades. Its unique fusion of history and mythology, engaging strategic gameplay (that still holds up), enchanting soundtrack, and improved AI make it stand out. While some may criticize the imbalance between mortal and mythic units, this remains an essential RTS experience - a one-of-a-kind title that mythology and strategy fans simply can't miss.
