Age of Mythology: Retold Reviews
Age of Mythology: Retold is a faithful and visually stunning recreation of the classic RTS. Veteran players will undoubtedly find themselves transported back to an earlier time, reliving epic battles, using godly powers, and managing their booming mythological empires. Newcomers to the series will find a well-polished and accessible strategy game steeped in rich mythology. However, the lack of significant new content and the focus on nostalgia might leave some players yearning for more. Age of Mythology: Retold is no fable, it really serves as a reminder it shouldn’t have never been forgotten.
Some pitfalls here and there don’t take away from the fact that Age of Mythology: Retold is a great reimagining of the classic game. It’s simultaneously faithful to its old version whilst having enough modern additions to make it satisfying to play some 20 plus years later. This is how you bring a cult classic into modern times. I hope you’re listening, Warcraft III: Reforged. It’s not that difficult now, is it?
Big content and many small changes. Age of Mythology: Retold is a tribute to fans of the genre who have waited too long for the return of Microsoft's legendary strategy game. Βούλομαι!

Age of Mythology Retold offers significant replay value with hours of fun building your civilizations as well as defeating your enemies either by yourself or cooperatively in teams. It’s relatively easy to pick up and despite the barebones tutorial, the controls are simple enough that you should be able to learn pretty quickly. Having the game on game pass as well means that you’ll be able to always find people to play with as well as easily being able to get your friends to join in the fun.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a great modernized experience of a classic old game. It keeps the best things from the old game, including the charm. It adds a lot, providing a new experience with added nostalgia. The original game was already a great RTS game, and Retold maintains this status. It compares pretty well to its cousins in the other Age games and more than well with other RTS games.
I am still cautiously optimistic regarding the post-launch content and roadmap, but as it stands, I love Age of Mythology: Retold. It retains the gameplay loop and iconic soundtrack of the original 2002 release, improving upon it by featuring brand-new visuals, a vastly more intuitive UI, and a plethora of small quality-of-life perks. It’s the game I grew up loving to death, but better than ever before.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a faithful remaster of a classic RTS game, featuring improved graphics, UI, and great quality of life changes. Whether you’re new to the franchise or a returning fan, this buffed-up classic is worth checking out.
Age of Mythology Retold is a love letter to the original game and a remake you'll be glad to have in 2024.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a successful attempt at reviving a classic title with a modern look and better accessibility. With three fascinating campaigns and a smooth multiplayer experience, it can be the perfect game for fans of old school RTS games who are yearning for a fresh experience.
"Age of Mythology: Retold" not only makes an already highly fun game shine in a largely contemporary look, but also adds many useful improvements, first and foremost the reusable god powers, the villager priority system, significantly more accessibility options and a really well thought-out controller control.

Age of Mythology: Retold is an absolutely successful project with an highly affordable price tag, capable of keeping an RTS enthusiast glued to the controller for days on end, but that can also win over those who are not experts in the genre.

With a new engine, meta and new lighting and motion, Age of Mythology: Retold does a lot to reintroduce one of the real-time strategy genre's darlings.
The nostalgic feeling kept and at the same time enough new elements is the balance act that remakes have to manage. Age of Mythology Retold did it with new modernised graphics and a campaign that stays true to the original. There is still room for improvement in the wayfinding or formation systems and also a questionable DLC premium package is in the mix but we still had a lot of fun with this timeless classic.

Age of Mythology: Retold does everything you'd expect from a high-level remaster (which is almost a remake, given the significant changes) of a high-level game. There are some flaws, and perhaps more effort could have been put into the gameplay to find even more innovative solutions, especially since the decision was made not to recreate it on a 1:1 scale.

I think you won’t be disappointed. If they can fix some of the AI problems and balance issues in future patches, Age of Mythology can truly stand among its peers. It might even become the true fan favorite it was always destined to be. Maybe we should ask the gods for their favor and start praying.
Age of Mythology: Retold blends nostalgia with modern appeal, offering a well-polished experience with expansive content. Despite minor flaws, the game’s mythological elements and orchestral soundtrack steal the show.
