The amount of dedication and passion that’s gone into Astro Bot is obvious in every pixel of every texture; there’s not a single bug, glitch, or texture issue to be seen. Its controls are easy to understand and incredibly tight, with Astro moving exactly how you need him to. In the 15 hours I’ve spent so far in finishing its campaign and going back to replay levels to pick up missing Bots, I’ve not encountered a single moment of frustration. It’s beautifully designed both in its self-contained levels and those dedicated to much-loved, Sony-exclusive franchises.

Play Has No Limits has been PS5's campaign motto since the beginning, and Astro Bot truly defines it. With a tremendous amount of improvements over its predecessor, Astro Bot pushes the lines out wide when it comes to creativity and offers a satisfying experience to any gamer, regardless of age or interests.

Astro Bot is a dream for platformer fans and should be played by anyone with a PS5. It won't convert dislikers of the genre, but it does everything right, is incredibly fun, looks great and couldn't celebrate 30 years of PlayStation any better

ASTRO BOT can never be accused of being a tech demo, unlike its predecessor, as many of the ideas previously toyed with in Playroom are now fully fleshed out and in a way that feels just as much a love letter as it does a defiant creative statement in PlayStation's library. Whatever the future holds for this charismatic little robot, it is safe to say that ASTRO BOT is firmly planted as this historic company's new face.

I'm not just saying Astrobot is a great game because it's fun as a platformer, or because it's full of PlayStation nostalgia. The real reason lies in how every element of the game is focused on delivering the 'pure joy of gaming'. Every aspect points in this direction, making it stand out as a truly remarkable experience.

A very inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation.

You tend to start writing lines in your head when compiling a review, and one that stuck with me early was to call Astro Bot 'the best platformer since Super Mario Odyssey'. Then I played a little more and started to think 'maybe it's better'.

An excellent 3D platformer, with the best force feedback ever seen (or rather felt) in a video game, even if it's a curiously flawed celebration of 30 years of PlayStation.

Astro Bot doesn't just deliver on the promise and potential displayed in PS5 pack-in demo Astro's Playroom, but soars above and beyond to serve up a near-perfect platformer to rival – and possibly surpass – the best of Super Mario's Mushroom Kingdom romps.

For what it is, though, Astro Bot is incredible, and that is worth celebrating here and now. I just can’t help walking away from the experience with a bittersweet taste in my mouth and a hope that someday soon, we don’t have to look to gaming’s past for the best bits of it all.

The little Astro has been accompanying PlayStation for several years, but this game serves to give the Japanese company that saga of platforms for all audiences that is placed at the height of other famous franchises such as Super Mario. A work made that overflows with love from the first minute of play to the last and that keeps you smiling all the time.

Astro Bot is the celebration of 30 years of video games on PlayStation, a tribute that does not remain only in nostalgia or the easy wink: there is room for the great sagas and hits, but also for forgotten games, and all are gathered around a great and no less fun platform game, that feels like it will be a classic in a not very distant future.

Just as with Playroom, Astro Bot is a game that absolutely celebrates all things PlayStation, aimed at anyone and everyone who loves this console and the games that have made it what it is. Whether you're an old timer or a young kid with their first console - or better yet, a combination of the two - the are dozens of hours of fun to be mined here. It's a fun, easy-going romp through PlayStation history, and absolutely impossible to play without a smile plastered to your face.
