Satisfying combat and more frowning than you can shake a stick at
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is an incredibly good roguelike that does justice to the world of Warhammer 40,000. For fans of this legendary franchise, the game is an absolute must-play; for the rest of you, it's still a great title, but one that newcomers may find confusing. Either way, there's no denying that it's a well-crafted shooter that will keep you entertained for a couple of evenings, and even more so if you have friends with whom you can go through the campaign and the co-op missions.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a thrilling return to the iconic universe of Warhammer 40,000. This sequel builds on the strengths of its predecessor, elevating both the graphics and gameplay to new heights. I loved the fast-paced combat and seeing dozens of enemies on-screen at once made it feel like being in the middle of a huge galactic war.
Space Marine 2 is a game that should have been the perfect outlet for fans to take out their frustrations on the xenos, but it suffers from an inadequate balance and difficulty level that will likely turn off some players.

What remains to be said about Space Marine 2? It’s undeniably a good game and a significant qualitative leap from Saber’s previous efforts, even if it arrives on day one with somewhat limited and repetitive content, further aggravated by a range of technical and conceptual issues that can unnecessarily complicate the player’s experience. We’re certain things will improve over time, but for now, the game’s offering is far from being a solid 1.0. Full-price purchase may only be worthwhile in the long term, especially considering Saber’s long-term support for World War Z. Still, it’s an enjoyable experience, particularly in co-op mode.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is near perfect and the greatest game I’ve played in that universe. With a meaty campaign, fantastic horde-based modes and PvP online multiplayer included, there is the potential for hundreds of hours of gameplay here. It is far more exciting playing this co-operatively with friends but I had great joy from reviewing this alone in the weeks leading up to launch. The team at Saber Interactive already has a well-established roadmap for the next 12 months which adds even more in the way of cosmetics, weapons, modes and more. The future for this title is exciting and whilst it retains an active player base, I believe the team at Saber will keep adding content to the game. For Xbox Series X players though, this is one of the best-looking games I’ve seen on the console to date and for the most part performance is buttery smooth throughout. For die-hard Warhammer fans, this is an absolute must-buy, but for those who just love the shooter genre as a whole then this will be one of the best you’ll see in 2024.
Space Marine 2, fortunately, doesn't try to "reinvent the wheel" and is exactly the sequel that fans (including myself) were hoping for. It's just a pity that we had to wait so many years for it. The game does have a few imperfections, but they aren't that severe and, moreover — are fully fixable.

Epic, detailed and brutal: Space Marine 2 is a true ode to the 40k universe! But as entertaining and technically impressive as the bloody battles against endless hordes of enemies are: Titus' campaign against the Tyranids and Thousands Sons could have used a little more variety. Space Marine 2 is a time capsule to a simpler time but with a whole new coat of paint. It’s a no-frill third-person shooter/melee hack ‘n’ slasher set in one of the most decorated sci-fi universes. It doesn’t stray far off its predecessor and builds upon it in every conceivable way. Clearly, Saber put a lot of love and attention into the game and respected its source material to the tee, creating a meaty package that will keep you busy for some time. Praise the Emporer of Mankind, for he is giving.
The series thunders back into the spotlight with the force of a space marine hammer crushing heretic skulls. The Emperor protects!
While some may find the campaign to be too short, the relentless action, extremely responsive gameplay, fluid combat and a gore system that would put many other franchises to shame, combined with a robust co-op mode and enjoyable PvP multiplayer, makes Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 one of the best games of 2024, and one of the best action games in recent years.

Space Marine II is focused primarily on bombastic action, with blood spurting in spurts and bones cracking. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a more entertaining shooter this year. Both newcomers and connoisseurs of the Warhammer universe are welcome.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been worth the very long wait and is an incredible worthwhile sequel that betters the original in just about every conceivable way. From the visuals, to the story, gameplay and additional modes on top, it not only continues a story that was set out a decade ago, but it carves a way for a much brighter, more elaborate future for the franchise. Full of epic moments, it’s a game you and your friends will love fully and completely.
Space Marine 2 knows exactly what it's trying to be and makes no bones about its glaring limitations from start to finish. Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe will no doubt find more mileage in the campaign and characters, but for players with only a passing interest in 40k (or players with absolutely no interest), it's hard to ignore the patchy narrative and increasingly one-note gameplay. That said, there’s a lot of potential here, and we hope to see a third outing from Sabre Interactive in the future.
If you’re a fan of Warhammer 40K or enjoyed the original Space Marine, then Space Marine 2 is absolutely worth your time. The game is a clear evolution of its predecessor, with combat that feels more impactful, smoother, and downright visceral.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a fun, straightforward and no-frills game. Saber Interactive's new effort has a play offering that focuses on multiplayer, but manages to satisfy those who like to interact alone. A few minor technical and artistic flaws, coupled with maps that are perhaps too large for the genre do not allow it to aspire to higher thrones, but the experience packaged by the US studio deserves to be tried by TPS lovers, all the more so if with the possibility of tackling it together with two friends.
