The games in Castlevania Dominus Collection are just as awesome as they were when they first released. Well, except for Haunted Castle Revisited which is much better; even to the point where you can consider it a brand new must-have old-school Castlevania. 🏰

The Castlevania Dominus Collection has made me realize that this specific era of Castlevania might be my favorite overall. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow used to be my favorite game in the series, but I’d be hard-pressed to recommend the other titles in that collection because they feel unfocused and unpolished. At the very least, there’s a pretty big gap in quality between them. Even if I’m not very fond of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, I think this collection has a lot of value in it. This is when this specific kind of Castlevania game started to really branch out and experiment, with most of those experiments being very successful. This is the definitive way to play three of the most interesting Castlevanias, better than I ever dreamed they would be. I think the Nintendo DS being such an experimental console encouraged the original developers to try a lot of fun things, and I hope the feedback to these games is strong enough to make Konami want to revisit this style.

Castlevania Dominus Collection sets a new standard for classic game re-releases. When Nintendo still struggles to make its classic gaming library legally accessible, Konami unintentionally provided the perfect history lesson on the Nintendo DS through this amazing handheld trilogy. The collection puts equally nostalgic but much lazier cash grabs to shame with how much it offers to both franchise veterans and newcomers at such an affordable price. Until Dracula is resurrected yet again in the next official Castlevania game, this collection and other retro Castlevania sets like it will provide plenty of whip-cracking fun to pass the time until that fateful day comes. Or, at the very least, until a new season of Castlevania: Nocturne is ready to stream.

Overall, the Castlevania Dominus Collection not only offers a nostalgic return to the roots of one of the most important franchises in video game history, but also a modern gaming experience that is enriched by little improvements and features.

Castlevania Dominus Collection is a re-release of the three classic games in the Konami-made vampire slayer series released for the Nintendo DS: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia. These are joined by the Haunted Castle arcade and its remastered version. Definitely a great bundle, allowing you to rediscover some fun titles at a very reasonable price.

Castlevania Dominus Collection offers a fantastic collection of titles that still stand out as some of the best in the Castlevania series. The gameplay of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia has stood the test of time with their enthralling adventures, whilst the unique features found across each ensures they feel fresh to play. Add to that the cool bonus of Haunted Castle (even if the original release is on the poor side) and it’ll be easy to see that this is another brilliant collection of classics from the team at Konami.

All three of the original DS games hold up extremely well, and M2’s track record with excellent classic ports remains intact here. Absolutely pick this up when you get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Even if I don’t consider Castlevania Dominus Collection to be the best retro compilation Konami has ever put out (The Cowabunga Collection still reigns supreme), it’s still a close second. The amount of bang for your buck is astonishing, as this collection features three meaty and highly acclaimed DS metroidvanias, as well as a remake of a formerly maligned title in the franchise’s history. Furthermore, I feel like M2 has finally figured out a way to make DS games function decently on a big screen, opening the floodgates for future compilations and/or remasters. Pick this one up right away, and start whipping some demons like it’s the mid 2000s all over again.

Castlevania Dominus Collection is an incredible collection with some of the best games in the franchise, offering many hours of exploration and good challenges. Adapting the screen format to make the most out of Switch's one screen and its touch capacity, it manages to offer an excellent way to play these games that players won't find fault in.

I've already reviewed some Konami collections in the past months and I can attest that Castlevania Dominus Collection is one of the best works in their catalog. M2 made a wonderful work once again on the package, not only preserving three inaccessible classics but also revitalizing one of the most ignored works in the franchise.

As a long-time fan, I'd pay the price of admission for Haunted Castle Revisited alone. The fact that players also get three of the best metroidvanias ever released is just too good a deal to pass.
