Akimbot Reviews
Akimbot is a fun platformer that can be expanded upon with a sequel. The weapons are too simple for a sci-fi game like this, but they all feel fantastic to control nonetheless.
It is pleasing to that games like Akimbot are still being made, as there is a definite place in the market for well-crafted examples of platforming run and gun action.
This self-described throwback to the golden era of PS2 platforming classics falls short of expectations.
I enjoyed my time with Akimbot. It is a charming and surprising lengthy game, with tight controls and a well voiced story. As a diehard Ratchet & Clank fan with no new Ratchet game on the horizon, it was nice to just relax and run around a colorful, platform-y world, and just shoot some bots. However from the visual bugs I kept running into, as well as some key quality of life systems I was missing from current Ratchet & Clank games I found myself wanting more, more often than not.
It takes a good deal of recklessness to develop a video game similar in every respect to Ratchet & Clank, knowing what kind of production you're up against. Akimbot, without mincing words, comes out in pieces; not because it's not funny, but because of the compulsive desire to be a clone of the masterpiece Insomniac. Ironically, the most interesting sections are those with their own character, without wanting at all costs to include citations of other people's intellectual property. A real shame, because technically it is well made and offers a good level of challenge, but it is penalized by the merciless comparison.

Akimbot's adventure isn't an unpleasant one, but its shortcomings are obvious. The potential of the fights has remained partly unexpressed, either for some too standard weapons, or for the limits related to the more particular and powerful ones.

While trying to pay tribute to classic platformers, Akimbot fell short when it came to making its own identity. The main characters weren't that interesting and the story was predictable, but it did have a couple of strengths. The look of the world and a great soundtrack makes this game an admirable effort, even if it wasn't successful.
Akimbot is filled with big ambitions, but they have outgrown the small Evil Raptor team. It's not bad and on promotion it's worth giving this game a chance, but don't expect anything exciting here.

It was supposed to become a star and an iconic game, and it may have convinced someone of that. But certainly not all. Many expected more. The Developers failed to elevate any aspect of this game to anything more than very mediocre.

Akimbot is, without a doubt, a good 3D platformer that honors its biggest and most obvious references, with good world-building, more-of-the-same narrative and competent mechanics. But it dares little and hardly dares to explore anything beyond what we have seen before.

Akimbot attempts to bring some nostalgia back to the modern gaming market, but fails to hit the mark with a plot that leaves no impact and easily forgettable protagonists. Although the game is partly saved by well-implemented platforming and shooting mechanics, unfortunately what it leaves the player with is only a sense of disappointment.

No, Akimbo is not the next Ratchet & Clank, but it would have been presumptuous to even try to match Insomniac’s duo. Aware of their limitations, the team at Evil Raptor approached the original material with respect and knowledge, creating their own personal take. The result is an action/platform game that may not be groundbreaking in originality but is still fun to play, thanks to a reasonably well-done cast and a few gameplay ideas that break the routine. It’s just a pity about the technical issues currently affecting the console versions, which I hope will be fixed soon as promised by the team.

As I said earlier, Akimbot feels like a condensed form of a Ratchet & Clank game, and that's great. The game is short, and most players will be done here in less than 10 hours. While there are collectibles in the form of data logs, they don't add much to the game besides backstory, so I don't think this is the kind of game you'd play through more than once. However, the shortened length keeps the story going, meaning things are interesting. Good, fluid movement backed up by a solid combat system means Akimbot is a game I can recommend to any 3D action-platformer fans looking to embark on a new adventure. The dynamic between our 2 protagonists is good, even if it does take some time for Exe to lighten up a little. As for Steam Deck performance, we are kept to 40 FPS and will still get frame rate drops occasionally. We're also running on low settings with resolution scaling, so the visual fidelity isn't particularly great. Still, the game remains perfectly playable, and at no point did I feel I died due to performance issues or lack of clarity. So I can give Akimbot the thumbs up to be played on the Steam Deck.
Good action platformer with charm and stylistically confident direction, which is consciously orientated towards comparable games of the PS2 era, but unfortunately stumbles over its unbalanced collection of side tasks. Sidekick Shipset is also a bit of a dick, which won't please everyone.

As a fan of 3D platformers, it was a treat playing through Evil Raptor's Akimbot. Despite minor performance woes and a lack of weapon variety, my experience playing Exe and Shipset’s big adventure was enjoyable. Polished 3D platforming mixed with good gunplay, an enjoyable narrative, and a ton of polished gameplay variety, Akimbot is a platformer anyone who loves the PS2 era Ratchet or Jak games should not miss. I hope that Exe and Shipset can take off on another adventure in the future.
Akimbot is a completely derivative title that manages to soften the rigidities of the predecessors of the subgenre it draws inspiration from, while inexplicably self-limiting in terms of its core gameplay mechanics. Fortunately, the title is packed with various special sequences that provide the production with plenty of variety. Even more so, it is an incredibly intense product, with no downtime. In a word, explosive.

Akimbot may evoke a golden era of 3D platformers, but that’s pretty much all it’s good for. Taken on its own merits, at best it’s thoroughly mediocre.
Akimbot is the best fix I’ve gotten to fill the void from the last Jak & Daxter or Ratchet and Clank games. From Exe style of destroying other bots, to Shipset crazy antics. These bots are everything to me. With the nice dodging mechanics and the change of pace every level will have you on your toes. Even the hacking mini-games change so much that you’re lucky you get the same one thrice. I can’t wait for the next game Evil Raptor will make with the experience they’ve gained from Akimbot.
Akimbot is an entertaining platformer that's satisfying to control and a fun little adventure that's unfortunately brought down by some serious technical problems

"Akimbot" is a love letter to the early platformers of the Playstation 2, you can see that in every minute of play. Even if the game doesn't manage to completely capture the charm of the past, it still offers enough fun moments. "Akimbot" doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't have to, as there is currently little to no modern competition in this genre. In any case, we are looking forward to the developer's next project, because there is a lot of potential for a future hit here.
