Avowed Reviews
Avowed delivers a compact, choice-driven RPG experience with all the qualities of an Obsidian game. Skyrim fan? You’ll love this. It’s not the next genre-defining epic, but it doesn’t need to be — it’s a solid adventure, and for many, that’ll be enough.
Avowed is a well-crafted RPG that excels in storytelling and exploration but falls short in combat depth and enemy variety. It's a game that understands the joy of adventure, offering a rich, immersive experience that, while not without flaws, is well worth the journey.
If you've got room in your catalogue for another giant and glistening RPG, then you can do much worse than Avowed. The glowing and diverse environments give off a unique hue that does look majestic in its own particular way, the combat is satisfying and meaty, and the story is layered with intrigue and political tensions. However, Avowed is let down by an experience that's a bit too generic and toothless when compared to the stalwarts of the RPG genre. The sacred and special sparkle that fizzes up the best of the genre is missing in Avowed, as it fails to scintillate in its initial hours. Avowed gets better the more you commit to it, but when there are many RPGs that fly out of the gate with memorable opening gambits, it's comparatively a bad indictment for Avowed to drone along in an uninteresting way until you plough a handful of hours into it. Don't allow these negatives to diminish the positives though, Avowed is a strong RPG that will please anybody looking for a good and tasty role-playing steak to tuck into, it just deserved to shine as bright as its beautiful setting, instead of wallowing in middle-tier purgatory.
I’m not sure that Avowed needs to feel weighty and meaningful to be fun. In fact, I’d say that it’s better because it’s not trying to make itself into a grand statement. Avowed is, as I noted above, exactly what you’d imagine a fantasy epic to be – and it’s all the better for it.
Avowed offers many interesting experiences, but it also contains numerous outdated and unambitious elements.

Despite the many critical issues highlighted in the review, and despite the fears that have accompanied us since its announcement, we must admit that Avowed is a good game, we are not talking about a masterpiece, but without a doubt a very solid title.

Avowed is an RPG through and through, demonstrating Obsidian's extreme experience in making games of this genre. The title further expands some of the issues already explored in Pillars of Eternity. This is thanks to a deep and well-written story that we can influence directly by taking full advantage of the dialogue system with other NPCs. The gameplay itself is of good workmanship, even if there are elements that make some mechanics woody. In spite of everything, the character progression system is well balanced and the graphic technical compartment is really thick, except for some minor problems. Probably, the choice to create a more contained world divided into game areas proved successful.

Avowed may not revolutionize the RPG genre, but it excels in delivering a deep, challenging, and time-intensive experience. While its mechanics feel familiar, the game’s lengthy questlines, strategic battles, and rewarding character progression ensure players remain engaged. Success isn’t handed to you—it demands patience, resource management, and adaptability. With its grind-heavy structure and immersive gameplay, Avowed is less about innovation and more about commitment, offering a compelling journey that can easily stretch over dozens of hours. If you’re seeking a groundbreaking RPG, this may not be it, but for those craving a solid, rewarding adventure, Avowed is well worth the investment.
There really is so much to love here. The dialogue you can choose from in your conversations, you can be nice, or if you wanted to be an asshole you had that option. Like I said, Avowed was more than I was hoping for. Xbox and Obsidian really might have Game of the Year on their hands. You can feel the love, hard work, and polish that Obsidian put in making this game. Avowed is a must play for any and every one, go get lost in The Living Lands.
“Avowed” feels like a cozy blanket under which I warm up on a cold day and think of the good old times. If you like classic Bethesda RPGs or if you like Obsidian's past works, you will also enjoy “Avowed”. However, you shouldn't expect a completely new gaming experience that will knock you off your feet. The fast and wonderfully chaotic battles are a lot of fun thanks to the numerous upgrade options. The compact open game worlds are also well-designed, offering little idle time and a lot of content in small areas. The occasionally bumpy storytelling and some smaller technical problems didn't bother me too much.

Obsidian Entertainment has crafted a masterpiece; every RPG fan owes it to themselves to play Avowed. With a breathtaking world, incredible companions, thrilling combat, intricate customization and deep systems, The Living Lands beckon.
Avowed may not win the best role-playing game award of the year, but it is a great Obisidian Entertainment game that will make both old-school RPG lovers and Pillars of Eternity fans happy.

Avowed delivers excellent gameplay, a compelling story with rich sidequests, and a unique fantasy world. It improves on Outer Worlds’ technical flaws, offering visually stunning combat—especially magic—a vast semi-open world, smooth parkour, and flexible character progression. While the music is less distinct than past Obsidian titles, and some animations and side character designs feel repetitive, these minor issues don’t diminish the overall experience, which remains spectacular.

Avowed is a terrific game from Obsidian Entertainment and is their best outing since Fallout: New Vegas. The world is rich with exploitable zones and characters to interact with.
Avowed is a solid RPG that borrows elements from Skyrim while maintaining its own identity, featuring a deep story, impactful choices, and a beautifully crafted world; its combat is versatile but hindered by the lack of a lock-on and dodge roll, exploration is rewarding with rich lore and meaningful side quests, companions are well-written but could be stronger in combat, and while the absence of romance options may disappoint some, the game remains a must-play for RPG fans seeking an immersive and open-ended experience.

Avowed is a great new addition to Obsidian's library of rpg games, with a story characterized by political complexity and moral conflicts, varied gameplay, and a large world that encourages exploration. Despite some technical issues and the simplification of some of the game's RPG elements, it's still an enjoyable experience for anyone who loves RPGs

Obsidian Entertainment stays true to its strengths and delivers great story telling and dialogues. Gameplay wise Avowed is fun but not very complex as the player character can pretty much do everything and doesn't have to commit. All in all this release is a solid action RPG that is available in the game pass from Day 1.

Avowed offers the perfect balance I'm looking for between freedom and narrative cohesion to keep me invested in the adventure. The story is excellent, the choices are important and the gameplay is a key part of the fun. There's no doubt in my mind that RPG fans will find pleasure in exploring Eora and discovering all its mysteries.

Obsidian has delivered an action RPG with a weak technical component, in which it doesn't do anything exactly new or epic, but its combat gameplay is exciting and the story interesting enough to deliver an entertaining game.
