Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Reviews
It may not be definitive or “complete”, but it still packs a lot of bang for your buck and offers one of the most robust action game experiences on the market. Ninja Gaiden Black II is utterly epic and will push gamers to their absolute limit.
A solid remaster of a 3D action classic
Although there are some technical issues, Ninja Gaiden 2: Black manages to provide a very dynamic and fun experience. If you've never played other games in the series because you found them difficult, this one is for you.

Almost two decades after its original release, Ninja Gaiden 2 returns in Black form. While the core gameplay loop of cinematic action remains as compelling as ever, the focus here is clearly on updated visuals. The $50 price tag, however, feels a bit steep for what is essentially a visual refresh of a nearly 20-year-old game. Whether or not it's worth the price will likely depend on your level of nostalgia for the series. Hardcore Ninja Gaiden fans may find it hard to resist, but more casual players might want to consider waiting for a sale.

They don't make games like that anymore, and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black shows that this is a game with roots that go back almost 20 years. It's overly bloody, overly provocative, but it suits the game. Just like the dynamic action gameplay that won't let you breathe a sigh of relief. What's more, there's still a decent level of challenge to keep you going and motivated to improve. It's just a shame that, after all this time, the developers haven't tried to tweak a few things.

With it not doing enough to be like the original and not having everything Sigma added this might seem like wasted potential, but in the end this is the best current version of a classic and a game that can stand on its own against the newest of action titles.

Purists may lament that this isn't a true update of the original Ninja Gaiden II, as Ninja Gaiden II Black uses the Sigma 2 port as its base, but what has been put together here is still an incredibly fulfilling hack and slash action game that absolutely is one of the best in the genre. In a time where more and more franchises are going down the open and freer route, this is a reminder that a more linear and confined approach works wonders for this type of game.
Ryu Hayabusa returns with a good remaster operation, maintaining the intense and brutal combat system of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. The difficulty is more accessible and the new graphics made in Unreale Engine 5 are great, but there are still historical issues like the camera and some content missing compared to Sigma 2.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a pleasant surprise for gamers who have been following the Tayabusa clan since the old Tecmo games of the 80-90s. A remastering at the height of the original title that offers about 13-15 hours of fun filled with extreme combat, frenetic action and many game modes as a reward after completing the campaign. The visual and performance improvements allow us to play at 4K 120 FPS turning the game screen into a spectacle of blood, gore and severed limbs.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black isn’t perfect, but its razor-sharp combat and relentless challenge ensure it still stands tall.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a must for fans of challenges and demanding action games . Its gameplay is still as enjoyable, its epic soundtrack and its technical improvements make the experience smoother than ever. However, it will not suit everyone: its brutal difficulty and aging graphics may put off some players. On the other hand, even if it is based on the Sigma 2 version , for those looking for a true test of mastery and skill, there is no better choice!

With the release of Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden II Black this year, along with the upcoming Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Team Ninja has declared 2025 the “Year of the Ninja.” If the quality of Ninja Gaiden II Black is any indication of the standard for these new entries, we can confidently say that the future of this franchise is in good hands.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a double-edged sword. The graphical improvements are welcome, and the gameplay remains extremely fun, even with some limitations inherent to a game released almost 17 years ago. However, once again, Ninja Gaiden 2 fails to have a definitive version. This remaster does not fix the problems of the original game and even removes some content. Still, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black provides an engaging experience and continues to be a great entry point into the franchise – just as it was for me during my playthrough.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a title that undeniably came out of nowhere, especially considering that Team Ninja had already compiled the Sigma versions of the first two games along with Razor’s Edge from the third entry. While the “new black” may not be the definitive edition of the series' second installment, it makes up for it by being the uncensored, most visually stunning, smoothest, most modern, balanced, and content-rich (with minor exceptions) version — ultimately making it the best edition of the game. As an action title, it remains an absolutely top-tier experience, with its straightforward journey providing excellent entertainment from start to finish.

Other than the camera still being quite whack, it’s a genuine must-play, especially if you’ve never had the chance before now.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a tight hack and slash, full of fluidity that sees blood, guts and dismembered limbs fly all over the shop. The story is very wobbly, but among the over the top violence is a challenging game designed to test your skills as a ninja, and while the game is tough, even on its easiest setting, it never feels unfair. Team Ninja encourages you to try different approaches to boss fights so that when you do ultimately prevail, there is a great sense of achievement.
This is a glorious return of an essential action gaming series. Ninja Gaiden II Black is a sublime experience with a few tiny technical issues, full of bombastic action, fun story beats and a core design that hasn’t aged a day (except maybe the camera). Anyone who enjoys a bit of a technical hack’n’slasher this is THE game to get. A terrific remaster and a sign of good things to come in the Ninja Gaiden series.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a textbook remaster/remake/whatever, or at least how I think these kinds of things should be. It updates graphics, movements and gameplay to adapt them to this new generation but respecting at all times the signs that made this saga unmistakable and unique. So don't think that the game has softened over time, on the contrary, it is still a difficult game where enemies don't give you a minute of rest, parry windows are adjusted to the millisecond and where your reflexes are measured continuously. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is the return of the classic hack & slash

Yes, Ninja Gaiden is well and truly back. Despite a few frustrations with the game not being as faithful as it could have been to the original Ninja Gaiden II, Ninja Gaiden II Black is still about as good as action games tend to get. A glorious facelift makes combat hit even harder, and some subtle but smart adjustments to balance and boss arrangements make it more exciting and less frustrating than its Sigma 2 counterpart. If you’ve heard of Ninja Gaiden but don’t know where to start, let it be here. You simply haven’t lived until you’ve Izuna Dropped an enemy’s head clean off. The original Ninja Gaiden Black is my favorite action game ever made, and I’m happy to say its sequel mostly manages to live up.
