Split Fiction Reviews
Split Fiction is a 15-hour co-op-only adventure packed with constant gameplay reinvention, heartfelt writing, and standout design that surpasses even Hazelight's past work.
One of this year's most anticipated offerings was, without a doubt, Split Fiction, a new game that could only have come from the mind of Josef Fares and his entire team at Hazelight Studios. After what we saw with It Takes Two, the bar was set pretty high, and it's time to talk about everything […]

Split Fiction is truly a blast to play and is one of the only games this year that I recommend to everyone. Needless to say, 2025’s Game of the Year discussion just got even more complicated with Split Fiction.
In the end, you won't even know how the 15 hours of Split Fiction have flown by as you immerse yourself in worlds of boundless imagination. Perhaps no game has ever offered so many ideas at once. Yes, not everything works 100%, and occasionally something could use a little more attention, but it's still an experience you'll enjoy and return to again and again.

Split Fiction is fantastic. The story and characters are great thanks to the nuance sprinkled throughout to give everything and everyone some unexpected depth. The constant switching of various genres keeps the game fresh, since none of the tales linger for too long, and the same can be said for the various gameplay additions in conjunction with the solid platforming. Combined with the cross-platform play and accessibility features to ensure that everyone can get through the title, the only reason to not pick up Split Fiction is if you despise co-op play. For everyone else, grab this early contender for "Best Of" lists for 2025.
Cooperation at the highest level with interesting stories of the main characters and a bit silly main plot, but.... how it all comes together well. The finale will make you want to play again. At least a second time.

Split Fiction goes beyond just another great co-op game from Hazelight; it reignites the importance of couch co-op. It's a reminder that truly memorable co-op experiences are built in the living room, sharing laughter, brainstorming, and emotional moments together. This game is a grand spectacle of co-op.
A game that proves, once again, Hazelight's undisputed skill with cooperative dynamics: who knows if there will ever be a limit for this studio.

With a story that mixes fantasy and science fiction, varied mechanics and a more challenging difficulty, Split Fiction manages to innovate within the genre without losing the essence of Josef Fares. Its visual beauty, the depth of its characters and the unique gameplay make every moment special. It is not only a tribute to the studio's previous titles, but an evolution that shows that the coop mode still has a lot to offer.

Whether you're being propelled through the air with the power of pig farts or tearing up thanks to an emotional reveal, Split Fiction is so densely packed with hilarity, heart, and hectic action that you'll never forget every moment you spent playing it with a friend. 📚
Split Fiction is an exuberant, cinematic co-op adventure that thrives on shared moments, scraped victories, and those magic moments when a plan comes together.
While it follows the same vein as It Takes Two and will undoubtedly appeal to fans of that game, it's not just "more of the same." Split Fiction has some very crazy and original ideas when it comes to creating minigames and new gameplay experiences amid a story about creativity and the importance of artistic expression that's very relevant today. Not all of its ideas work, it underuses its narrative a bit, and it has some minor technical issues, but it's definitely one of the best two-player multiplayer experiences I can recommend. Don't miss it.

Split Fiction was a great game on other consoles and that fact remains true on the Switch 2. The frantic gameplay and diverse worlds run smoothly on Nintendo's new console, though the graphics did take a step back. It's a shame, however, that you can't play the game with one set of Joy-Cons, but thankfully Hazelight made it as easy as possible to share the adventure on another Switch.

Split Fiction isn’t a perfect experience. There are a few gameplay stretches that don’t feel as polished as the rest of the game, and I wish the company that provides the backdrop for the entire story had been given the care its protagonists were. These are minor issues in a game this beautifully done, though. Split Fiction is one of the most audacious games I’ve ever played, constantly reinventing itself in ways that somehow work when they simply shouldn’t. There were numerous moments that stunned me into wondering how this game just kept getting away with design decisions that seemed like a disaster waiting to happen but instead led to some of the most memorable stages I’ve ever played. Finding someone to play with may be a challenge for some, but if you can remotely do so, you won’t regret it.
Split Fiction is the fruit of years of experience in co-op gaming, and the Hazelight team, led by Joseph Fares, once again proves that they are the best in this category. Each level of the game is stunningly creative, both visually and in terms of puzzle design, requiring focus and cooperation with your partner to progress through the adventure.
