Elden Ring Nightreign is an enjoyable addition to the Elden Ring universe, through it is not without its faults. All in all, I would recommend Elden Ring Nightreign to people who enjoy a challenge but who aren’t too bothered about a lot of plot. In other words, if you like fighting the bad guys with friends, have fun. If you are looking for deep lore, play the original Elden Ring.

“Elden Ring Nightreign”, really shakes up the formula From Software has been honing the past decade. It’s intense, and full of ups and downs and some areas that really require more polish — like proper communication systems and less obtuse mechanics for this kind of subgenre. The lows are incredibly low and frustrating. But once you beat a Night Lord? Ah, there’s no better feeling than that. Especially with friends.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a game I found myself quite engaged with and ended up excited to play more. It's very easy to see why some people dislike it. Despite being soulslike, it doesn't have the same pace and demands as FromSoftware games. All that said, it's still a very fun game with some great group moments.

Elden Ring Nightreign blends co-op action with roguelite elements in a bold shift from tradition, offering intense battles and strong character design. While its structure echoes Monster Hunter more than classic Souls, the experience swings between satisfaction and frustration due to balancing issues and punishing mechanics. With refinement, its full potential could shine—especially for well-coordinated teams.

Brutal, bold, and brilliantly chaotic, Elden Ring: Nightreign thrives when all of its pieces fall into place. It’s not flawless, but its smart design choices and thrilling co-op gameplay prove that FromSoftware’s risks continue to pay off in exciting new ways. While repetition and technical issues hold it back from greatness, the game shines when played with friends, offering moments of pure adrenaline and triumph. It may not eclipse Elden Ring or Dark Souls, but Elden Ring: Nightreign stands tall as a bold and compelling spin-off of the successful formula.

Elden Ring Nightreign is an experience that, while sharing similarities with the main game, sets itself apart in subtle ways. It’s a distilled version of the massive 2022 title, but its greatest strengths lie in its fast-paced combat, shorter runtime, and high-speed gameplay. It offers an engaging challenge for veterans, while also serving as a great entry point for those who don’t want to deal with the monumental scale of FromSoftware’s larger works.

Nightreign ambitiously expands on Elden Ring's themes and structure, with standout moments and a fresh take on co-op play. Some design choices and balancing issues hold it back, but it remains a meaningful experiment that sets the stage for the studio’s future.

It may be missing some build depth or profoundness, but to have a bite-sized piece of Elden Ring that I can jump into whenever I want is a treasure worth the price.

For those who enjoyed the base version of Elden Ring and understand the unique proposition of this title — closer to a Roguelike than a traditional Souls — Elden Ring Nightreign is an excellent experience. With friends, Nightreign becomes a great place to dive headfirst into the land of Limveld. However, the future of Elden Ring Nightreign is still uncertain, especially due to the lack of crossplay and the limited communication between players within the game. We can only wait for future updates that bring technical, performance and content improvements — areas in which there is a vast terrain to be explored, considering FromSoftware's history of expanding its worlds with creativity and consistency.

The combination of souls and rogue proposed by Nightreign was an idea that could have worked well, but it was undermined by a superficial implementation of its core mechanics and a lack of new content.

Elden Ring Nightreign won’t be the most elegant or polished multiplayer game of 2025, and FromSoftware purists may not be on board. Still, its unique brand of hard-hitting and uncomplicated adventuring is a brilliant distillation of the studio’s most significant wins.

Despite a few technical hiccups and some shortcomings in long-term replayability, Elden Ring: Nightreign is an ambitious and surprisingly well-executed twist on the Soulslike formula. Its roguelike structure, new cooperative gameplay mechanics, and signature FromSoftware difficulty combine for a thrilling, fast-paced experience that rewards teamwork and adaptation. For fans of Elden Ring looking for something familiar yet fresh, Nightreign is a confident contender.

At first, I thought that ELDEN RING with roguelite elements sounds like a huge drag. But getting to try the playtest events and getting to play the full game completely proved me wrong. The way FromSoftware thought up this idea to mix these two different genres to make such an excellent game was quite a gamble. Yet, it was honestly the best gamble I have seen a company make that goes from just making one genre of games. Adding just one thing and making a new roguelite that I have the biggest grin when either failing or succeeding a battle, makes it worth it. This game is a great collection for those who love either Souls-like or Roguelites. And it’s a game that I don’t feel like I can put down if friends want to raid a Nightlord. I give ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN the Thumb Culture Platinum Award

A challenging roguelike spinoff set in an alternate timeline of Elden Ring, emphasizing co-op gameplay, procedural maps, and familiar bosses. While visually stunning and engaging, it's best suited for seasoned Elden Ring players at this point.

Nightreign isn’t the game we expected, but it might be the one we needed. At a time when live-service games dominate the market, FromSoftware has crafted its own version without falling into the usual traps of the genre. No battle passes, no microtransactions—just pure, distilled Souls combat. If you're a fan of Elden Ring and have friends to play with, Nightreign is a must-buy. If you're looking for the traditional solo Souls experience, you might want to wait for Elden Ring 2. But give it a chance—you might find, as I did, that dying over and over is even more fun when you can blame your teammates.
