Ninja Gaiden 4 is a brutal, spectacular, and incredibly satisfying return to the iconic series, reminding us why fans have longed for Ryu Hayabusa and the world of ninjas. PlatinumGames has delivered a dynamic combat system, fluid animations, and a diverse arsenal that make every battle a pure pleasure. While the story and Ryu's role are disappointing, and the ending loses momentum, the overall experience is redeemed by excellent gameplay and a constant sense of power. It's a great return for a critically acclaimed IP.

How much you'll like this will depend on how open you are for the series to change and be influenced, while still feeling like part of the series. If you do, you'll be rewarded with a blisteringly fast and bloody time.

A comeback that builds upon the already solidified Ninja Gaiden gameplay with complementary mechanics - and if it hadn’t done Ryu Hayabusa an injustice, it could’ve been hailed as a true classic.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a bold new beginning for the series that brings a new dynamic to combat while still living up to the series' legacy. It may not be the Ninja Gaiden longtime fans were hoping for, but it's an excellent game and one of the best action titles of the generation.

Unity truly makes strength, and the collaboration between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames hits the mark. Despite a few minor flaws, Ninja Gaiden 4 stays true to the spirit of the series, enriching it with new mechanics that clearly bear the signature of the Bayonetta team. The result is a spectacular, technical, and varied combat system that delivers immense satisfaction once fully mastered.

In the end, Ninja Gaiden 4 is a thrilling return to a genre that has been slowly dying out in the face of all the action-adventures and Soulslikes that are out now. It’s a thrilling, skill-based game that reminds you of what makes hack-and-slash games so great. And the best part? You get to decide how hard the game is; it’s all up to you.

A great pick for genres fans and newbies curious about the franchise, Ninja Gaiden 4 has a few stumbles that keep it from reaching the level of effectiveness that previous entries achieved.

After a long absence, Ninja Gaiden finally returns with a new installment that serves as the perfect finale to the “Year of the Ninja.” This time, it features two protagonists: the main hero Yakumu, accompanied by Ryu Hayabusa. Together, they deliver a truly impressive combat experience. Although the story and visuals have a few minor issues, Ninja Gaiden 4 still bursts with excitement, action, and brutal combat.

Ninja Gaiden 4 is a solid genre action game that hits all the right spots. However, it hasn’t managed to avoid a certain sequel stereotype, and while it feels high-quality, it’s not as striking as the developers themselves would have wished.

Despite the occasional on-rail hiccup, I’ve really enjoyed my time with Ninja Gaiden 4, and it’s easily a game I can see myself revisiting as I try to improve my own abilities and end of level scoring, offering up an easy reason to replay stages over and over again.

The progression system deserves attention. Upgrades, weapon customization, and the unlocking of advanced abilities are designed to encourage replayability . Each level can be approached in different ways as new techniques are unlocked, prioritizing personal improvement over mere linear progression.

With all that in mind, it makes Ninja Gaiden 4 really quite difficult to recommend. There are so many games out right now that could offer you more for your money. It is releasing in a month where a game such as Ghost of Yōtei could give you more bang for your buck.Unless you really love the Character-Action genre over anything else, it is hard to justify spending a full 70 dollars on a game that is only around 9 hours long, with a severe lack of other content. Granted, the game did release Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass, so subscribers should absolutely give it a shot if they so desire. Nonetheless, it is a great game and I am very happy to see the triumphant return of Ninja Gaiden. If we can receive more Ninja Gaiden games in this same vein, I believe the future of the series should be very bright - so long as they work on those noted flaws.

Ninja Gaiden 4 marks a bold return, with fast-paced and bloody action alongside the new protagonist, Yakumo. It has fluid combat, varied weapons, and an electrifying cyberpunk Tokyo setting. While the rehashed Ryu levels and some frustrating platforming sections detract from the experience, its stylish visuals, satisfying gameplay, and solid replay value make it a standout action game in 2025.
