Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening Reviews
I had low expectations for Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening, but Magic Pocket truly surprised me. This digital revival of Buichi Terasawa’s iconic space pirate is both a faithful tribute and a fun, varied action-platformer that captures the spirit of the original series. Despite some minor trial-and-error gameplay and a lack of unlockable extras, it’s well-crafted and offers great value. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Cobra and his Psycho-gun, there's plenty to enjoy—especially at such a modest price.

Space Adventure Cobra - The Awakening manages to capture the essence of the classic anime with accessible, fun, and nostalgic gameplay. Despite minor stumbles in the integration of graphic styles and some imprecise movements, it remains a highly recommended experience for both fans of the series and new players interested in the Cobra universe.

Space Adventure Cobra - The Awakening is not just another video game inspired by an anime. It's a love letter to a cult classic that needs more attention. By turning the first few episodes of the anime into a polished action platformer, it brings together old and new fans.
Given Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening’s budget they have worked with, we can cut Magic Pockets some slack for some of the game’s shortcomings. The story campaign offers approximately twelve hours of content, with side missions and unlockables adding to its replay value.
Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening is a tie-in game with no current projects to tie it to, and that’s more than okay. It’s a great reminder of something that’s retro and fun, but there’s no need to relaunch the entire franchise again. There’s plenty of ways to view the classic Cobra media, both from the 80s and the 2000s, and we can all enjoy it to different degrees. I think the game is worth a spin, particularly if you love a solid side scrolling power fantasy, but don’t expect it to supplant your GOTY. It’s a great cartoon, and it’ll last you one fantastic Saturday morning, just like it did years ago.
Overlong levels, confusing structure and unsatisfying basics leave only the charisma of the source material to carry an otherwise average attempt at reviving a classic.
The fact that Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening exists is very cool, but it's not as much fun as the anime that inspired it.
