A sequel that continues the story but effectively corrects the mistakes of the first installment. Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is, at last, the adaptation of the series that fans deserved. One of the best arena fighters in recent times.

The second chapter of The Hinokami Chronicles boasts good aesthetic and narrative fidelity to the reference work, but does not shine in terms of content and innovation.

Hinokami Chronicles isn’t exactly the sequel I was hoping for. Alongside a campaign that is excellent in many respects, the game offers a graphical and technical compartment identical to the previous one, weighed down by substantial gameplay changes that result in frustrating and nerve-wracking battles. Online, victory basically goes to whoever has the most overtuned character and has memorized the longest combos with precision, effectively leaving the opponent with no chance to counterattack. As always, recommended for fans only.

CyberConnect2 took the formula from the first successful game and added even more polish and depth, making Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 a must-play if you’re already a fan, or have ever even simply been curious as to what all the fuss is about.

Despite the oversaturation of anime fighting games, Kimetsu no Yaiba – Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles manages to stand out by offering an interactive immersion into the anime’s events. The game invests in ranked modes that demand planning and mastery of mechanics, a story mode that’s accessible even if you haven’t played the first title, and a robust roster of characters. Everything is polished and well-crafted. Still, it lacks a bit of boldness: the game favors fidelity and visual spectacle over truly challenging battles. For its target audience, this may not be an issue, but players seeking greater difficulty might feel that absence.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a textbook example of a sequel that doesn’t reinvent the wheel but makes the ride smoother and more exciting. It builds on what worked in the first game, adds more content, gives fans more characters to play with, and delivers another round of high-energy, anime-faithful action. It’s not perfect, some side content is forgettable, combat depth is limited, and the decision not to fully integrate the first game’s story stings, but when you’re in the middle of a flashy fight, pulling off a perfectly timed tag-team ultimate, those complaints fade fast. If you’re a Demon Slayer fan, this is a no-brainer. If you’re just here for a casual, visually spectacular fighter with an anime twist, you’ll have plenty to enjoy. Just don’t expect it to completely replace the anime or the first game—it’s more of a companion piece than the definitive Demon Slayer experience.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 delivers CyberConnect2’s trademark blend of cinematic spectacle and flashy combat, successfully capturing the anime’s visual flair while offering a massive roster and solid performance. Its accessible gameplay and roguelike Training Path mode add replay value, but the linear story design, filler collectibles, and reliance on recycled formulas keep it from feeling truly fresh. For fans of the anime or Ninja Storm series, it is a stylish crowd-pleaser. For others, it may feel more like déjà vu than evolution.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 puts story above all else. The game succeeds in retelling the anime with care, mixing anime footage and in-engine cutscenes into a production that feels true to the source. The combat is flashy and fun but shallow compared to the genre's heavyweights. For fans and newcomers alike, Chronicles 2 delivers a rich way to experience the story. It may not satisfy the hardcore fighting game crowd, but it does justice to one of anime’s most successful franchises.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 nails the presentation of its anime story arcs with gorgeous cutscenes and exciting boss fights. It’s a fun way to relive the series and mess around with a larger roster of characters. But online play is a hit-or-miss in some regions, there’s some elements which are tacked on, and the asking price is steep for what’s here. If you’re in it for story mode, it’s a solid time, but as a full package, it’s a harder sell.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hinokami Chronicles 2 is an excellent arena fighter game with unparalleled visuals and stays very true to the anime. A 40-player roster makes it interesting to dive into the multiplayer modes, but it does nothing more than that. The story mode exploration is still bland until the actual fights begin, which are perfectly executed. Same game, new characters & story, better fighting, and visuals.

Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a more of the same that will please fans who enjoyed the first game. The story mode is certainly the strong point of this chapter, but I must admit that I would have expected more variety, especially in the exploratory phases which are rather slow and monotonous. The combat system remains solid, striking a good balance between fun and variety. It clearly doesn't aim to be an extremely competitive title, but it still manages to be more entertaining than you'd expect from an arena fighter. A few additional modes to further explore the gameplay wouldn't have hurt.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is an incredibly stylish follow-up to an already solid 3D fighter. There’s a wide range of neat characters, a satisfying combat system, exceptional presentation, and a good range of modes. If you’re into Demon Slayer, you’ll be into The Hinokami Chronicles 2.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 offers more content and modes compared to the first game, maintaining its stunning visuals and accessible combat that fans of the anime will enjoy. The new equipment system and Training Paths mode add a welcome strategic layer, and the expanded roster provides variety for those who like to experiment with different combinations. The battles remain the highlight, especially with cinematic animations and fidelity to the original work. However, the sequel doesn't make significant progress in areas that were previously criticized, such as the shallow story mode and simplistic combat mechanics. The additions seem more like expansions rather than true evolution, leaving the experience stagnant for those seeking more depth or innovation. It's still enjoyable, especially for fans of the series, but lacks the ambition to appeal to a more demanding audience.

Fans of the Demon Slayer anime and manga will definitely want to pick this 3D fighter up, as it recaps the continuing saga of Tanjiro and co. Non-fans can appreciate the colourful graphics and truncated anime plot in the single-player mode, but probably won’t find as much value when compared to your super-fan of the series. At the very least, this cash cow of a title has some merit as it is crafted with love and care courtesy of Cyberconnect 2.
