Simon The Sorcerer Origins is a game which some will love, and some will drop off of. However, in a time of re-releases with an extra 'episode' of content tacked on to the end, it's nice to get a full-blown new game in an old franchise.

A remarkable return of graphic adventures in all their glory, one that sticks to the core gameplay while innovating here and there. Its difficulty might not be for everyone, but its humor certainly is.

The latest installment in the adventures of the wayward Szymek undoubtedly has a lot of charm. Besides its polished audio and visuals, the title offers tons of naughty humor and two gamepad control options (both of which are effective). If only the plot were more interesting and the whole thing a bit longer, it would be hard to find fault with anything.

Masochistic newcomers and experienced point-and-clickers will undoubtedly enjoy the return of Simon the Sorcerer Origins and Simon's banter, but those without experience will suffer without hints and a multitude of detailed notes.

Simon the Sorcerer Origins looks fantastic, its writing is brilliant and its voice acting (particularly Chris Barrie) is absolutely stellar. It's a great example of a modern point-and-click game — but it's let down by some frustratingly difficult puzzles. It sorely needs a built-in hint system, but hey, at least you can just look up a guide.

Simon the Sorcerer: Origins is a heartfelt love letter to classic adventure games and a beautifully crafted prequel that truly feels like a playable cartoon. With its gorgeous art style, smooth performance, sharp humor, and stellar German voice acting, it perfectly captures the spirit of the originals. However, its unforgiving 90s-style puzzle logic and lack of guidance can make progress frustrating, leaving only the most patient adventurers to fully enjoy this charming yet challenging experience.

Simon the Sorcerer Origins is an unnecessary sequel that brings nothing new to the series. It’s saved mainly by its appealing visuals, fairy-tale atmosphere, short playtime, and the occasional well-executed joke.

While it is fantastic to see Simon return, his grand comeback isn’t an impressive display of point and click magic – it’s more like an amateur magician’s routine; kinda simple, but you can’t fault the heart and enthusiasm that went into it. It’s an absolutely solid adventure game that leaves me hopeful we might see more from Simon. If you love the genre, pick it up and give it a go.

Score: 7/10 – Simon the Sorcerer Origins is far from magical, but it’s earnest, visually memorable, and occasionally joyful, despite its many missteps. There is a chance I’m just dumb (no need for comments on that one) but the puzzles are too frustrating to be enjoyable (IMO).

Simon the Sorcerer Origins is a heartfelt effort to bring back one of the best names in adventure gaming. It's full of charm, wit, and nostalgia—a loving tribute to a time when people hunted pixels and made silly jokes. The writing is excellent, the art direction is outstanding, and the voice acting is exceptional. You can tell that the developers really love the source material in every frame.
