R-Type Delta: HD Boosted Reviews
Overall, R-Type Delta is one of the finest shmups ever made and obviously needs to be widely available across modern hardware. I just wish this new HD Boosted version had more to it, and M2 had been hired to handle the game in the same way they made G-Darius HD.
A true arcade game that never was, and confined to the PlayStation until now, shoot-'em-up fans will adore what's in store. A seminal work that has never looked better, Delta, with its boundless creativity and exacting design, stands out not just amongst its peers, but as perhaps the best R-Type the series ever produced.Yes, it's still crazy tough, and no quick restarts or scene-skipping is painful, but this new HD revamp is by far the best way to play it. If you're itching for a shoot-'em-up experience of note, this will make your year.

Ultimately, this is a brilliant remaster of a great title, and if you’re a fan of shmups, this is a must.
All in all, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is a glorious blast from the past that takes no prisoners. If you thrive under pressure and enjoy memorizing level layouts, this is the game for you. And if you don’t, give it a try anyway. It’s merciless, but incredibly engaging.
The move to a 3D presentation came out well for R-Type Delta, and it looks great all these years later in this revamped format. An excellent soundtrack makes every stage more exciting, and the variety of spacecraft to choose from keeps playthroughs fresh. Like most shoot ‘em ups, this is a tough game, but it is one that sits right up there in the genre. That said, more features, unlockables and screen filters could have really elevated R-Type Delta: HD Boosted.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is a great remake of the original PlayStation game. It looks and sounds excellent, and even with the quality-of-life improvements, it's still incredibly intense!
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is an absolute gem of a shoot 'em up that's near and dear to my heart but holy hot darn, will it make you want to rip your hair out so make sure you bring plenty of patience and it'll end up being a supremely rewarding experience. 💥
R-Type Delta is an incredible SHMUP that sits among the very best of its era, or any era for that matter. Its high level of difficulty and low level of adaptability may turn some players off, but genre fans who haven’t gotten a chance to play it absolutely need to check it out.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is a fun, addictive shmup. While offering a reasonable challenge, it’s not “pulling out your hair” hard. It’s overall well balanced and any death incurred are on you; this game will make you learn from your mistake. Fans of the genre will be happy to have something new to (re)visit while this game is properly balanced for newcomers wanting to jump into the genre.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted stays true to what made the original stand out. The ships, the Force tricks, and the tough stage layouts still hit hard, and the HD upgrade helps the world read better than before. A few rough edges remain, like spots where the screen gets hard to read and no quick restarts, but the core challenge is worth learning. If you enjoy pushing through tough shooters, this remaster delivers exactly that.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted to me feels like a game laser-focused toward existing fans of the R-Type franchise who may have missed out on it when it first came out. While certainly enjoyable, it isn’t the title I would say would most appeal to newcomers; rather, the value comes from wanting the next challenge in an incredibly challenging series. With a slightly done-up lick of paint, a new soundtrack, and the chance to play this title on newer systems, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is going to be one for the Shmup masochists to sink their teeth into and for fans of retro to gush over while repeatedly hitting the walls of the stages. It’s good to know going in that this game will kick your teeth in and that progress is going to take time; once you do, you’ll find yourself with a rewarding and infuriating retro shmup that finally has its chance to shine outside of its original PlayStation prison.
A loving remaster that revives the legacy of a classic. While sitting in the cockpit of the R9 might not be for everyone, long-time fans will cherish this reunion.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted may be a fairly bare bones remaster, but this shmup is still a blast in 2025 regardless.
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is an essential title for fans of shoot 'em ups, and its revamped version has made it as appealing as many current titles. However, if you're not a fan of the genre—or don't enjoy dying thousands of times in the same area full of giant fish—Delta might be a little more difficult to digest. Now, if you're willing to experience this gem from the late 1990s, you can add it to your library without hesitation.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted proves that a well-executed remaster can revive a classic without losing its essence. It retains the challenge, strategy, and excitement of the original, while visual, audio, and accessibility improvements make the experience clearer and more enjoyable. For veterans and newcomers alike, this title remains a benchmark within the shoot 'em up genre.

R-Type Delta HD Boosted feels like a obligatory act of preservation out of capitalism than a celebration of a cult classic of the Playstation 1 era. It does what it needs to do and not a lick more. The upscaling settings and button mappings are about the only configuration that has been tinkered with in the probably open source emulation framework they've chosen. There is no additional features te speak off or leaderboards to take on other players. The game it self is left to its own devices, which it still, after 30 odd years, does remarkably well. Both in terms of gameplay and looks. Those who are in for a thoughtful, deep horizontal shooter should not pass up on it but at the same time will be disappointed that it isn't presented with much more style and fanfare.
R-Type Delta HD Boosted is a great game. It’s still the same brutal, unapologetic, and dark-as-hell shooter that came out back in the day. But now it’s here to torment you on your modern systems. It’s a landmark in the genre, and one that really does need to be experienced by anyone with a passing interest in shooters.
It's a short experience that you'll want to repeat again and again, whether to complete the image gallery that the remaster offers, or simply to discover the secrets the game holds; after all, the game's ending changes depending on the R-Type you choose to play!

In the end, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is a faithful revival of a standout game, maybe a little too faithful at times, but I’m still very glad it’s finally here. Despite the absence of modern extras, it’s a brilliant slice of ‘90s sci-fi intensity brought back to life, and after all these years, it still knows how to deliver a thrilling fight.
