Pokopia offers something for all Pokemon fans whether you're the type to just want to go on an adventure with Pokemon (as Pokemon?) or create a whole new world with Pokemon. While the end-game grind was dull, overall this is a fantastic package.
Pokémon Pokopia scratches the creature collection itch in a new social and town-building simulation context, proving that Pokémon is one of the most versatile franchises in the medium.
As far as cosy games go, Pokopia is absolutely top-tier, rivalling the unrivalled Stardew Valley. Despite a few minor flaws, it’s a hellishly addictive, satisfying and relaxing game, likely a foregone winner in the family games category at this year’s TGA and – something I really didn’t expect – one of my current contenders for game of the year.

Pokemon Pokopia is, very literally, everything you'd expect and want a Pokemon life sim game to be, and a lot more you'd never even known you wanted. Charming, bursting to the seams with personality, and dangerously addictive to near lethal levels, Pokemon Pokopia is arguably the best Pokemon spin-off of all time, and will go down as one of the early defining games of the Nintendo Switch 2 library.
Simply put, Pokémon Pokopia is one of Pokémon's best spin-offs yet. It effortlessly combines the charm of Animal Crossing and Minecraft while imbuing the end result with all the best elements of monster catching. Regardless of whether you're a fan of Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Dragon Quest Builders, or are just looking to jump into something new, Pokopia will hook you in and keep you coming back for weeks.
Despite how much I’ve played the main games in both Animal Crossing and Pokémon since the early/mid-2000s, I didn’t expect that both of Nintendo’s biggest time-sink franchises would meld together so well, and yet Pokémon Pokopia has just blasted off straight to the top of my list of favourite cozy games.
The cosiest, craziest Pokémon game with a concept so delightful you wonder why we haven't seen it sooner
Pokémon Pokopia is a bold experiment that successfully blends multiple genres, resulting in a title with a very strong identity. While the main series has always been fueled by collecting and battling, here collecting remains, but combat gives way to management and reconstruction. There's no pressure. No performance anxiety. There's a world to rebuild patiently, one micro-habitat at a time.

Where Animal Crossing does eventually become a series of routines that you get stuck into until eventually it becomes dull, Pokopia resists falling into the same box by simply giving you so many objectives for when you don’t feel like simply inhabiting the world. Which is just as well, because we’re all going to need a lot of this kind of calming escapism over the next few years.
Pokémon Pokopia could well be the Animal Crossing of Nintendo Switch 2. A familiar world that needs rejuvenation, brimming with potential and a cast of colourful favourites to join the ride. Pokopia has a surprising amount of depth, encouraging both exploration and more structured missions to keep the fun flowing. With almost boundless craft and customisation, the game highlights the strength of the hardware - a technical showcase of a world that rarely stutters, if at all. As a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, Pokémon Pokopia has the potential to become a system seller; a cosy essential with a sprinkling of Pokémon nostalgia.
A cozy and lively lifesim that sheds a different light on the series while also being geared towards everyone who enjoys Animal Crossing or Dragon Quest Builders. Less grind and better QoL features would've made for a smoother experience, though.

Pokemon Pokopia is a surprisingly addictive spin-off that focuses on exploration, habitat building, and developing your own living Pokemon community instead of combat. The most fun comes from experimenting with ‘recipes’ for new environments, crafting, and terraforming, although over time the grind and the demands imposed by the tasks become more noticeable. If you're looking for a peaceful game in the style of Animal Crossing + Minecraft with a Pokémon skin, you've come to the right place – but you have to accept that it's a completely different experience than the classic instalments of the series.

Pokémon Pokopia is a wonderful and unique game that has already stolen hundreds of hours from me, and I know it will steal thousands more. It’s a visually and aurally stunning game, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to its merits. It’s a game brimming with emotion, warmth, and love that will warm even the coldest and harshest of hearts. And yet, it hides beneath the surface the unimaginable sadness and hopelessness of the entire situation. The core of the game, however, is very addictive. Repairing and rebuilding the world is incredibly fun and satisfying. Additionally, it allows you to create magnificent structures and regions where you’re limited only by your imagination. Pokémon Pokopia is one of those games that warps time. You sit down to play for a moment, feel like fifteen minutes have flown by, and when you look at your watch, it shows you that 16 hours have passed.
