Outbound is a gently paced, cosy camper game encouraging creative home building and exploration in beautifully varied biomes. With developer, Square Glade Games, highlighting a roadmap of upgrades and add-ons to come in the next few months, there's plenty of reasons to jump in your camper and join in the fun.

Despite its appealing premise and relaxing facade, Outbound struggles to justify the time (and price) it demands. The slow pacing, repetitive resource gathering, lifeless world design, and lack of meaningful progression drain the experience of excitement as well as comfort. The campervan customisation and eco-friendly concept attached show promise, yet the gameplay loop quickly turns into a mind-numbing chore rather than a therapeutic past time.
Although there are lots of ways to upgrade and decorate your van - which, I suppose, is just about the only saving grace of this game - I had absolutely zero interest in doing so.
Outbound is a relaxing journey that will please anyone who wants to get away without going anywhere. Extensive exploration and a satisfying gameplay loop make for a joyful experience, and it's easy to lose hours to driving around in your camper, collecting logs and unlocking new biomes. A few visual and control gripes might form bumps in the road, but otherwise this is a fun ride.
A competent camping and survival game set in an unpopulated wilderness, whose lack of narrative structure, threat, or competitive elements leaves it feeling disappointingly hollow.
Slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy them a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled. Outbound is a cozy, visually striking van-life adventure game that nails atmosphere and customization, but struggles to keep its open world engaging.
The PC version of Outbound is technically superior. If you have the option, you'll get a significant graphical boost on a computer, as the issues with limited detail and blurry images at high settings are largely eliminated.

Outbound is a game with a sincere execution, but one that doesn't fully follow through on its ideas. By playing it safe to avoid gameplay that might be too demanding for players, it misses out on a potential that could have made it a true must-have in the cozy gaming scene. Still, it remains a contemplative pleasure for lovers of virtual exploration… one you'll play through from start to finish before tucking it away in the back of your collection, unsure if you'll ever pull it out again to relive the same journey.

Outbound delivers a unique spin on survival exploration by turning an electric camper van into a fully customizable mobile base. Driving through scenic biomes and modifying your rooftop homestead is incredibly charming, and it works wonderfully as a cooperative experience. However, Outbound unnecessarily anchors its blueprint progression behind a slow, repetitive recycling grind that forces you to hunt constantly for garbage. If you have the patience to dig through piles of litter for resource coupons, there is a cozy road trip worth taking here.
Outbound is at its best when it leans into its core fantasy: a peaceful, mobile life based on exploration, sustainability and creative building. The camper van customization system is awesome, with surprising depth and freedom. The world is beautiful and the atmosphere is always soothing.
There is definitely the potential for a great cozy game here, though the developers still need to work on several mechanics and improve the game’s technical condition.

If only that world offered a bit more engagement and a better overall balance of grind and reward, Outbound could deliver on its promise.
For our taste, "Outbound" sometimes takes things a bit too leisurely.

If you're looking for a comfy game that can hold your attention for hours while delivering a relaxing and rewarding experience, Outbound definitely deserves a place on your list. Even with a few stumbles, it manages to offer a quite enjoyable and addictive experience within its genre.
