Another Eden Begins is an odd game. On the surface it seems to have everything you'd want from a modern JRPG but there is so little happening beneath the surface that it never really leaves its disposable gatcha origins behind. The core mechanics are functional enough that I played it through to the end (on Steam Deck whilst commuting and/or watching TV) but it's hard to recommend at the full price – even less so with the extra content locked behind a further purchase.

Another Eden Begins is a successful port, effectively adapting the mobile JRPG to a single-player journey, though the game experience was lukewarm.

It’s a brilliantly designed, if questionably balanced, system that unifies the game’s tactical battles, the grounded emotional reality of its characters, and the theme of different worlds colliding to both catastrophic and mutually beneficial effect. Which is to say, it’s classic Kato.

Despite its brutal release timing and several noteworthy shortcomings, this offline conversion of Another Eden is a fantastic game that plays beautifully with one of the coolest New Game+ modes that's been done in an RPG.

Maybe something was lost in translation, or maybe there was nothing there to begin with, but Another Eden Begins does not work on almost any level.

Another Eden Begins is a great JRPG from industry legends, taking the gacha game and evolving it into something entirely its own.

Despite its dated dungeon-crawling elements and uncertainty surrounding future DLC pricing, this stands as a masterclass in transforming a gacha game into a true single-player console RPG without a trace of disappointment.

Another Eden Begins is aggressively fine. The turn-based combat features a good amount of variety, but the game's light difficulty doesn't make it something you really need to get that in the weeds with. The story isn't that engrossing, but it's not bad. I just feel like I've seen Masato Kato tell that story in more interesting ways in Chrono Cross. It's cool that Another Eden will extend beyond my mobile phone, but it wasn't necessarily something Switch players were missing out on if they avoided gacha RPGs.

Another Eden Begins takes the time-travel concept and tones it down quite a bit, instead putting the power of friendship at the heart of what is otherwise a classic JRPG. Its chain attack system and the Valor concept also add some much-needed life to the battles. The fact that New Game+ opens up new possibilities fits the game's core concept surprisingly well, too. For JRPG fans, it promises plenty of enjoyable hours.

Is Another Eden Begins worth playing? Absolutely. It’s just important to know what you’re getting into. Weak character development for some secondary characters, a map system that leaves a lot to be desired, and what ultimately feels like an incomplete battle system leave one wanting for something a bit more traditional. Another Eden Begins is a console version of a mobile game, and ultimately, it shows that in some very off-putting ways.

Another Eden Begins has an interesting story and setting but failed to keep me interested with its repetitive battles and dungeon crawling. ⏳

If there’s one lesson Another Eden: Begins has taught me yet again, it’s that no matter how much a game boasts about having major industry names attached to it, that pedigree doesn’t necessarily translate into a good experience. Its story is so shallow that the most positive thing I can say is that an offline version now exists for posterity, preserving the game long after the original gacha version inevitably shuts down.

Another Eden Begins successfully rebuilds the original mobile game into an entertaining and traditional RPG experience by removing the gacha and live-service mechanics and letting the time-traveling story, charming cast, strategic turn-based combat, and meowtastic soundtrack shine. While there are a few spots that could be improved and it may not appeal to everyone, this furrmiliar adventure through time is worth taking.

Another Eden Begins is a great step in the right direction for the series, but once you become strong enough, the challenge falls to the side. The cast you meet is great, and the game shows some strong elements, from the environments to the music. I had a blast exploring the places I visited and grew an earworm from the music. But that isn’t enough in today’s industry, and I wish they’d do something to bring a worthwhile challenge to the forefront.

Another Eden Begins delivers an excellent time-travel story, memorable characters, strong voice acting, and beautiful music. Its shallow combat, repetitive dungeons, and limited progression depth hold back.

Another Eden Begins is a solid JRPG that manages to deliver an engaging story, beautiful environments, and simple systems that work well, even without offering much depth. Exploration is fairly straightforward, and the combat features some interesting ideas, especially with the Chain Skill system, while progression ends up being more engaging through equipment than through the skill trees. Its mobile origins still leave some noticeable marks on the experience, but overall, the game delivers an enjoyable and well-crafted adventure for fans of traditional Japanese RPGs.

Another Eden Begins does well enough at making for an experience that will keep players engaged for its runtime, but not really enough to stand out from the crowd. Combat is enjoyable and the base gameplay loop moves things along to prevent things from becoming too tired, though its side quests can drag things a bit.

Yes, fellow gacha player, I know full well I can clear the game's content without spending a dime—but what if I had unlimited access to "all" the content for a flat fee, without that summer banner proving just how... you know what? Better stop right there. Another Eden is good—really good. Play Another Eden Begins. Uninstall those gacha games from your phone, break free from the chains, and go back to a good old-fashioned RPG.

Another Eden succeeds by revisiting the classic JRPG formula. The turn-based combat is enjoyable, time travel creates varied narrative scenarios, and the soundtrack effectively elevates the adventure's atmosphere. However, the game never quite shakes off its mobile identity, suffering from limited exploration, underdeveloped characters, and visuals that aren't always fluid. Ultimately, it is a pleasant but forgettable experience, hampered by the feeling that it is an adaptation unable to fully break free from its origins.

What remains is a rock-solid JRPG whose story offers some amusing twists and charming quests, but ultimately never reaches the brilliance of "Chrono Trigger."
