Maybe something was lost in translation, or maybe there was nothing there to begin with, but Another Eden Begins does not work on almost any level.

Another Eden Begins is aggressively fine. The turn-based combat features a good amount of variety, but the game's light difficulty doesn't make it something you really need to get that in the weeds with. The story isn't that engrossing, but it's not bad. I just feel like I've seen Masato Kato tell that story in more interesting ways in Chrono Cross. It's cool that Another Eden will extend beyond my mobile phone, but it wasn't necessarily something Switch players were missing out on if they avoided gacha RPGs.
Another Eden Begins takes the time-travel concept and tones it down quite a bit, instead putting the power of friendship at the heart of what is otherwise a classic JRPG. Its chain attack system and the Valor concept also add some much-needed life to the battles. The fact that New Game+ opens up new possibilities fits the game's core concept surprisingly well, too. For JRPG fans, it promises plenty of enjoyable hours.

Is Another Eden Begins worth playing? Absolutely. It’s just important to know what you’re getting into. Weak character development for some secondary characters, a map system that leaves a lot to be desired, and what ultimately feels like an incomplete battle system leave one wanting for something a bit more traditional. Another Eden Begins is a console version of a mobile game, and ultimately, it shows that in some very off-putting ways.

Combat is enjoyable and the base gameplay loop moves things along to prevent things from becoming too tired, though its side quests can drag things a bit.
Yes, fellow gacha player, I know full well I can clear the game's content without spending a dime—but what if I had unlimited access to "all" the content for a flat fee, without that summer banner proving just how... you know what? Better stop right there. Another Eden is good—really good. Play Another Eden Begins. Uninstall those gacha games from your phone, break free from the chains, and go back to a good old-fashioned RPG.

Another Eden Begins understands exactly why classic JRPGs remain so appealing. It takes a familiar formula and gives it enough personality through its time-traveling adventure, earnest characters, satisfying combat, and wealth of content to make the journey feel distinctly its own. Its rougher edges are difficult to ignore, but they never overshadow a game that consistently understands what makes a good adventure worth seeing through to the end.
