Call of the Elder Gods manages to deliver a consistent experience within its premise: a narrative adventure focused on mystery, atmosphere, and clever puzzles. The character writing, the Lovecraftian setting, and the gradual evolution of the puzzles make the campaign constantly engaging, while the art direction and soundtrack contribute to its identity. There are certain visual technical limitations and some frustrating moments caused by demanding puzzles, but the final result is a confident, mature, and very well-constructed sequel, especially for those who enjoy more contemplative and investigative games.

Call of the Elder Gods is a mature and highly rewarding evolution of the foundation laid by Call of the Sea. Out of the Blue Games delivers a vibrant, puzzle-driven adventure that explores Lovecraftian lore through a surprisingly intimate and poetic lens. While the dual-protagonist mechanics feel somewhat underutilized and a few puzzles stumble in execution, the excellent narrative, the satisfying lateral-thinking challenges, and a beautiful handling of themes like grief and the afterlife make it a must-play. A thoroughly captivating journey that smartly closes old chapters while hinting at a promising future.

The momentum was just all off. Every time I started to get sucked in, a demand that I examine my notebook and work out details to continue progressing would eject me from being enthralled. It just wasn’t for me.

Call of the Elder Gods blends Lovecraftian atmosphere with the spirit of an Indiana Jones-style adventure surprisingly well, offering strong characters, excellent voice acting, memorable locations, and several cleverly designed puzzles. A stereotypical villain, occasional animation issues, and one weaker puzzle hold it back slightly, but its strengths still easily outweigh its flaws.

Call of the Elder Gods has a strong mystery, useful sequel connections, and memorable locations, but unclear clue paths, underused character switching, and limited exploration payoffs keep it from matching the promise of its mystery and character setup.

Call of the Elder Gods is a good game that fans of the original will find plenty to appreciate. The atmosphere holds. The lore rewards the curious. The hint system is a genuine quality-of-life step forward. But as a sequel to something I consider a minor classic of its genre, it moves the needle less than it should. The dual protagonists add texture without meaningfully reshaping how the game feels. The puzzles remain demanding in ways that the hint system accommodates without correcting. And the emotional specificity that made Call of the Sea’s ending so impactful is harder to find here, buried under a wider, louder mythology that doesn’t always know what to do with the feelings it excavates.

Call of the Elder Gods never quite recaptures the emotional magic that made Call of the Sea so memorable. Its story is broader, sillier, and ultimately less affecting, even if its globe-trotting cosmic nonsense remains consistently entertaining. Thankfully, Out of the Blue’s knack for clever puzzle design is as sharp as ever, resulting in a sequel that may not surpass its predecessor, but still offers a thoroughly enjoyable mystery for anyone eager to test their brain against the unknowable.

Call of the Elder Gods is a strong successor to Call of the Sea that further expands on the mysterious atmosphere and narrative gameplay of the original. With two playable characters, challenging puzzles and impressive Lovecraft-inspired environments, the game once again delivers an immersive adventure. Despite some slow gameplay and occasionally clunky controls, the strong story and atmospheric world make up for a lot.

Call of the Elder Gods is an excellent narrative-driven puzzle game that masters familiar Lovecraftian themes while taking its own, unique approach to the tone of the story. It may feel different to fans of games based on Lovecraft’s work, but I think the changes work incredibly well, and this unique approach is worth giving a try yourself.

It prioritizes creativity, diverse scenes, and puzzle design. Instead of cliché horror tropes or loud actions, the game stays true to its roots, leaning into mystery, lore, and atmosphere. Here, fear doesn’t come from a jump scare or a gunfight; it builds up as you get uncomfortably close to the truth.

Call of the Elder Gods is a nice little indie game in every way. The adventure isn't world-changing, but the time spent on it doesn't feel like a waste of time.

Call of the Elder Gods is an adventure brimming with good ideas, offering solid puzzles, inspired art direction and an intriguing return to the Call of the Sea universe. The story and themes at its heart are handled competently, but they struggle to truly surprise, particularly the former, which often remains tied to the more classic tropes of Lovecraftian storytelling. The real problem, however, lies with the technical aspects: stuttering, visual glitches and erratic loading times end up compromising the exploration sections in particular, turning the experience into something far more taxing than expected.

With five to seven hours of gameplay, Call of the Elder Gods offers just enough content to keep the story exciting without stretching it unnecessarily. Fans of the first game will undoubtedly enjoy this immensely. The game delivers a cool mystery, features multiple strong twists, and cleverly combines puzzles with a top-notch story. Call of the Elder Gods has thus become a successful sequel that shows this franchise still has plenty of potential. In terms of presentation and polish, it could have gone a step further here and there, but perhaps that is precisely something a potential third installment could focus on entirely.

Call of the Elder Gods is not a horror game focused on combat or survival mechanics. It is a cerebral, atmospheric adventure that thrives on mystery, tension, and carefully constructed puzzles. At times its pacing and puzzle design can become overly demanding, but when everything clicks together, it delivers some genuinely unforgettable moments. For players willing to embrace its slower pace and unravel its layered mysteries, Call of the Elder Gods offers a haunting and intelligent journey through grief, obsession, and cosmic terror that lingers long after the credits roll.
