Swan Song Reviews
Swan Song is a charming game of interlocking narrative vision, puzzle design and presentation.
Swan Song's humble and inviting atmosphere creates an environment for an emotional narrative and challenging puzzles. Despite a simple premise, its music box delivery evolves in clever ways to ensure the player has a growing sense of accomplishment.
A clever and emotionally sincere puzzle game whose gorgeous clockwork presentation and inventive musical mechanics carry it through occasional stretches of repetition and restraint.
An emotional blend of story and puzzle, Swan Song is a game that's going to pull at your heartstrings. Its puzzles are well designed too, with only the odd one that's likely to frustrate.
Each new hurdle Swan Song introduced felt like another hurdle Amber had to face through her sickness. It also felt like the hurdles Tristan and Edith also had to face, as family sickness affects everyone. Business Goose Studios clearly shows they understand this and presents this game with grace and empathy. I would recommend anyone to take the time to listen to and play a very real story, which Swan Song is. As stated, this is a gradual story with easy-to-solve puzzles. If you have a little patience, this could be a wonderful exposé into a realistic narrative. For that reason alone, I would award Swan Song a Thumb Culture Silver Award.
Swan Song is a story told through letters and audio revolving around the actions of a small family dealing with a terminal illness. The presentation is cozy and pretty. The story chronology is disjointed, and the characters are difficult to connect with. The puzzles are simple, numerous, smartly iterative, interactively frustrating, and unrewarding. The game did not reliably engage my attention during the nearly six hours it took to complete.
Swan Song is a lovely little puzzle game, but its simplicity is both a blessing and a curse. It’s easy to pick up, pleasant to play through and accessible enough for most players, but nowhere near deep enough to fully scratch that puzzle itch.
Swan Song is a masterfully composed puzzle game. The level design, with its fun and engaging mechanics, is a masterclass in game design because the concepts are gradually introduced and made more challenging. These concepts synergise beautifully and never overstay their welcome. The emotional story of grief and loss presented between puzzles brought tears to my eyes. Although it is a difficult subject, the subtle way it is presented through family artefacts and the excellent voice acting will ensure that Swan Song will stick with me for years to come.
Swan Song is an adorable and worthwhile cosy puzzle title, offering unique gameplay that fans of the genre will enjoy. What on the surface could appear to offer limited tricks succeeds in finding new mechanics that will keep players mentally engaged from start to finish.
Swan Song is an interesting puzzle game that tells an emotional story about loss and memories. The music box concept is creatively executed, and the puzzles remain interesting thanks to new gameplay elements. Although the game presents itself as cozy, there is actually a rather heavy emotional weight hanging over the adventure. That combination will either appeal to or deter players. But in either case, Swan Song is memorable. With this, Business Goose Studios delivers a small, personal experience that might not always feel cozy, but certainly manages to strike a chord.

Swan Song is a cosy puzzle game that feels like an adult version of a child’s shape sorter puzzle. It’s nostalgic in that way; it feels familiar even if you’ve never seen a set of puzzles quite like these. The game takes place almost entirely inside a magical music box, where your job is to guide a small swan to safety by placing musical notes in the right sequence and manipulating the tiles to create a functioning path. Beyond the box, Swan Song tells a story about grief that feels painfully real, even when one of its characters makes choices that are particularly hard to forgive. The puzzles become more complex with each chapter, but the emotional weight behind them never disappears. Although the writing sometimes falls short of its potential, Swan Song‘s journey undoubtedly offers a worthwhile experience.
Overall, the puzzles in Swan Song are well-designed with interesting mechanics, but a built-in hint system would make this game more accessible to casual players. While a bit too dark for my personal tastes, I also enjoyed the unconventional way in which the story is presented.
It is not a puzzle game that will go down in the annals of the genre. But it is definitely one that I would recommend to someone looking for a few hours of relaxed and enjoyable entertainment.
