I kept coming back for more battles and pushing myself to beat the bosses even though I fell over and over again. Onimusha has found its way of the sword by balancing on the edge of this phenomenally well crafted blade. It once again shows that Capcom remains on top of its game.
Young people sometimes use the term ‘bangier’. It suits Onimusha: Way of the Sword perfectly. It’s the very essence of a video game and exactly what I expect from this form of entertainment.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword can be considered another success for Capcom in 2026. While Onimusha is a more niche series compared to franchises like Resident Evil or Devil May Cry, you don’t need any prior knowledge to enjoy its latest entry. If you’re a fan of action games, Way of the Sword has plenty to offer, from thrilling boss fights and a compelling story with an incredibly likable protagonist to its fascinating world. Even after the credits roll, the game has enough replay value to make at least one more playthrough worthwhile. So if you’re an action game fan, don’t miss out on this Eastern epic, and treat yourself to an adventure worth experiencing.

Monsters beware, Musashi is here! One of the best hack and slash titles to come out in some time, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is deliriously fun. When it’s all said and done, Kyoto might be under the scourge of the devilish Genma, but it’s an absolute blast getting lost in it.
Capcom continues its streak of great looking and playing games with Onimusha Way of the Sword that blends history and fiction, action and comedy and swordplay and light puzzles.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a fantastic return for one of the most promising franchises in the entire industry. With an excellent story and exceptional combat, Capcom hits the mark once again, delivering a title that is a true spectacle. Capturing the best of its blend of samurai and horror, it transforms into an exciting and action-packed experience that should be remembered as one of the best of the year.

The way of the samurai shines bright in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, marking a triumphant return for Capcom's long-running action RPG series.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks a fascinating yet overly conservative return for Capcom's iconic franchise, starring the legendary Miyamoto Musashi. While boasting stunning cinematic direction, top-tier voice acting, and rock-solid technical performance on PS5, the game is held back by a passive AI, an overly permissive difficulty curve, and a combat system that pulls its punches. It's a solid, beautiful foundation for a series revival, though it ultimately lacks the necessary bite to truly master its craft.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is another win for Capcom. It's a game with stellar combat that stumbles when it comes to its open-world design and side content. Luckily, when it's time to cross swords, this game is incredibly fun

Onimusha: Way of the Sword's super-fun sword combat really packs a punch and is the star of the show along with the ridiculous game world and cast of characters that'll make things a lot more entertaining if they click with you. 👹
A perfect return to the once-forgotten series, Onimusha: Way of the Sword blends old school nostalgia with modern sensibilities. Action-adventure fans will get comfortable quickly enough, whilst the returning fans will hit the ground running. It looks beautiful, and whilst the English dubbing might be off-putting to some, it's all part of that classic Capcom charm.
Onimusha: Way of the sword left us with contrasting feelings: while the game has for sure great elements, the progression and the choice of expanding the formula by adding mechanics and activities that deviates from the linear structure of the original games are somewhat puzzling, leaving us the feeling the series has lost its original identity.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a fantastic comeback to a classic franchise. Its story is darker and at the same time funnier than I expected, Musashi is a protagonist I genuinely grew to love, and the combat is a real highlight: methodical, demanding and incredibly rewarding once its systems click, with bosses that are as memorable as they are fun to fight. It’s not without flaws, but none of the negatives take away from what matters most. Whether you’re coming back after twenty-odd years or picking up your very first Onimusha, this one is well worth drawing your sword for.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a welcome return of the dormant series that also barely resembles it. Most of the changes are good, like the more aggressive, reaction-based combat and the quality voice acting and animations. Some are questionable, like the bland semi open world and its unappealing side quests. But if this Oni gate can stay open long enough, Way of the Sword is a great first attempt at dragging this series out of purgatory with a lot of potential for greatness.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword takes Capcom’s classic action franchise to new heights thanks to one of the most reactive melee combat systems seen in recent memory, although its blade is dulled slightly by overly complex progression systems.
It’s just that those hiccups keep Onimusha: Way of the Sword from maintaining its best elements. Still, when it wants to, the game can really cut through those basic hangups and deliver a terrific action game.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an action hack-and-slash game with enormous potential: it's built on a deep and layered combat system, offers a fantastic take on Miyamoto Musashi's character, and projects Capcom's artistic vision into the future, especially in its direction, animation, and production design.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a good action game that sets a solid foundation for the series, but its combat needs more offensive options.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a worthy return for a series that was popular among many fans. It also honors the name of Miyamoto Musashi—no small feat when dealing with such a major legend.
