Remedy deliver another hit, boasting enigmatic and visceral combat, an incredibly stylish, mind-bending, kaleidoscopic cityscape, and a surrealist yet utterly captivating narrative. Control Resonant ranks amongst the best of 2026, and absolutely has to be experienced.

Control Resonant is an impeccably confident and tantalising sequel that has all the hallmarks of a Remedy classic. It's endlessly stylish and playful; it looks gorgeous, especially on the PS5 Pro, and it manages to address many of the woes that I had with the original Control.Repetitive combat is the big hitch, however, holding the game back from true greatness. Ultimately, though, it's not enough to overrule all that Remedy is doing right with this sequel.

CONTROL Resonant is a prime example of how a sequel can realise the full potential of a formula. While Remedy had undeniably succeeded in building a remarkable world with the first game, its many shortcomings arguably limited that world's impact. With this second instalment, however, the Finnish studio pushes past what we could have imagined, not only fixing most of its predecessor's flaws but also bringing in just the right amount of new ideas. The result is an adventure that is at once distinctive, gripping and impressive ; the kind that confirms Remedy as one of the most creative studios in the industry.

The surreality of Control Resonant serves to amplify its pathos.

Resonant's diversity and diversity, however, come together in a blend that only Remedy can blend so coherently. A charismatic melting pot of the most disparate influences, the second Control entertains for dozens of hours and can appeal to fans of the weird with a unique and bizarre personality that is worth surrendering to.

Control Resonant pushes the bounds of what Remedy Entertainment's quirky formula can achieve. An action-RPG that has a few growing pains, but sprouts into something monumentally special by the end.

Control Resonant delivers on Remedy's signature weirdness, with psychedelic views, wonderfully woo-woo writing, and intriguing mysteries around every corner. Unfortunately, the combat that connects every great moment feels mundane, repetitive, and limited, and it doesn't get truly fun until nearly the eleventh hour.

Remedy’s choice to bet on themselves is another one worth making. CONTROL Resonant is a stellar sequel that risks everything yet succeeds in nearly every area it touches. Certain design choices and a slow start aside, Resonant has the heart of CONTROL inside it with a beautiful story that reaches your soul, vicious combat, and a spectacular world to explore that only they could build. Shaking things up usually works best with Shake 'n Bake, but Remedy cooks with Resonant's shift from the status quo.

In Control Resonant, two styles of game design collide: one formulaic, the other – imaginative, surprising with sequences and vistas we’d never have expected in a game like this. These two concepts somehow blend together so naturally, complementing one another, and over time the latter seems to completely dominate the former. The new Control may not have the most enticing opening, but it’s worth persevering through it, because later on it takes us on a wild ride that we’ll remember for a long time.

CONTROL Resonant isn't a bad game by any means, but feels more like a Remedy game that is trying to imitate its own legacy rather than making a wholly compelling experience.

Though altering many of the original's fundamentals, Control Resonant is every bit an extension of Remedy's incredible universe. Frenzied melee combat and mind-bending exploration house yet another fascinating story across numerous planes of reality.

Control Resonant continues the Remedy tradition of offering an ambitious experience filled with incredible ideas. The game controls beautifully, the combat is fun and flexible, the side stories are strong and the presenation is, of course, excellent. But repetitive encounters, beautiful but underwhelming boss battles and an uneven open-world structure all make Resonant feel uneven. Regardless of its flaws, Control Resonant is both bold and enjoyable, though it doesn't reach the usual heady heights established by the illustrious Remedy canon.

While I hesitate to call Control Resonant a stunning new direction for Remedy, it offers an exceptionally crafted world, addictive combat (even if it takes time to open up), and phenomenal art direction.

CONTROL Resonant is a fantastic follow-up that expands on almost everything that made the original great. Dylan becomes a compelling protagonist, melee combat offers impressive depth, traversal is a joy, and Remedy’s signature weirdness is as strong as ever. Some uneven difficulty, limited enemy variety, and occasional visual clutter hold it back slightly, but this is still one of Remedy’s strongest games.

I'm still blown away by the environment design and art direction in CONTROL Resonant. The work here is nothing short of masterful. Honestly, we probably won't see another game that delivers a comparable experience for years to come. Remedy's signature strengths of artistry, visuals, and storytelling are practically dialed up to eleven in this entry. As for the combat and player guidance, there are still a few minor hiccups, but they certainly haven't taken a step back. If anything, they are actually a solid improvement over the first game.

Control RESONANT feels like an AAA production infused with the creative spirit of an indie game. In Control, surrealism was something you merely witnessed, but here, thanks to innovative level design, creative mechanics, and clever puzzles, it is something you can actually experience. Expanding the game’s world to Manhattan also creates room for a richer narrative backdrop, allowing it to explore even stranger concepts. Nevertheless, the game cannot escape the common shortcomings found in Remedy’s works. The combat gradually becomes repetitive, some surprises feel formulaic, and the narrative slowdown is difficult to overlook. Resonant stands as one of the most distinctive experiences in today’s AAA landscape, yet it still suffers from Remedy’s familiar shortcomings.

Control Resonant is another masterclass in storytelling from Remedy Entertainment, but its potential for greatness is hindered by a completely detached open-world experience.
