Planet Zoo 2 has some good ideas, and the addition of aquariums, flying birds and wildlife reserves gives you more ways to build the zoo you have always wanted. The improved animal behaviour and presentation are welcome, and there is still something rather satisfying about watching a zoo grow from a few basic enclosures into a busy attraction. My main concern is that the sequel doesn’t change the formula quite as much as some people might hope. A lot of the familiar management is still here, and while that will be perfectly fine for fans of the original, it might not be enough to convince everyone to make the jump. There is also the question of all that extra content available in the first game. If you have already spent years building up your collection, it is worth considering what you might be leaving behind. For newcomers, though, there is plenty to enjoy. It is creative, surprisingly absorbing and occasionally frustrating, but that is all part of the experience. You just need to accept that things won’t always go to plan, no matter how carefully you have laid everything out. Planet Zoo 2 builds on a solid foundation and gives us some interesting new ways to play. I would have liked a few more changes to the everyday management, but there is still plenty of fun to be had here. Just remember to keep an eye on your finances, make sure the animals are happy and, for goodness sake, build enough toilets. There is nothing worse than having a beautiful zoo that nobody wants to visit because they are all desperate for a wee! I give Planet Zoo 2 the Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Planet Zoo 2 is an enjoyable, beautiful and highly rewarding evolution of the original, placing a much greater emphasis on wildlife conservation through customisable nature reserves. It builds on its predecessor with improved construction and customisation tools, the addition of aquariums and a roster of more than 130 species to home, all brought to life through impressive visuals and realistic animations. However, the increased complexity makes for cumbersome control on console and there's a few bugs that still need to be squashed. Despite these minor frustrations, Planet Zoo 2 delivers a deeply satisfying zoo management experience and a meaningful step forward for the genre.

The animals are superstars, but they don't quite make up for the fiddly, frustrating micromanagement.

Planet Zoo 2 is a great addition to the 'Planet' franchise and a must-have for people who love creative management games. The game offers the extraordinary level of customisation I've come to expect from Frontier, and the large number of additions over its predecessor offer plenty to both existing fans and new players alike. The game will no doubt continue to grow over the next few years with updates and DLC, but the base experience alone offers a sturdy foundation to build from.

Planet Zoo 2 is one of my favorite management games ever. Even with the bugs I encountered, this is one I’ll be playing for years to come. The work that went into making these animals come to life is something that shouldn’t be ignored. This whole game feels like a real labor of love.

Planet Zoo 2 has the elements in place to eventually become a worthy follow-up to its beloved predecessor, but as things stand, the experience is held back by technical issues, messy UI and controls, and some of its new ideas feeling too underbaked.

Planet Zoo 2 is an engaging and rewarding management sim with gorgeous animal models and animations, alongside remarkable creative freedom. Despite a few shortcomings, some of which it has inherited from its predecessor, it is an excellent choice for players who love detailed management, though those primarily seeking a relaxing experience with animals may find it overwhelming.

It’s rare to find a successful blend of gaming and educational value, but Planet Zoo 2 has managed this almost perfectly without significantly compromising on playability, whilst boasting phenomenal graphics. It’s just a shame that the console version’s interface isn’t particularly user-friendly, but the emphasis on the complexity and finer details of looking after our animals is sure to bring a flush of excitement to the cheeks of enthusiasts of zootechnics and landscaping.

It's safe to say that Planet Zoo 2 is Frontier's biggest and best game yet. It looks fantastic, has a huge range of animals, and its greater focus on conservation makes for a wholesome and rewarding experience. There's a learning curve involved, though, so be prepared to put in the time if you want to get the most out of this wonderful sim.
