Overall, despite a couple of issues regarding the controls and narrative, Kusan: City of Wolves is a fun top-down action game that likes to challenge you, but rewards you for playing smart by taking advantage of the tools provided.
Kusan: City of Wolves is a spectacular, brutal and challenging top-down shooter that pleasantly surprises not only with its combat, but also with its dark world and well-crafted story. It’s a very good game for players who enjoy a challenge and beating their own high scores, but its unforgiving nature and limited variety mean it won’t be to everyone’s taste.

Kusan: City of Wolves is a fantastic game that combines addictive action, a deeply complex upgrade system, charming art direction, and a soundtrack that really hooks the player. Its high difficulty and aggressive combat philosophy forge an identity that goes well beyond its acknowledged inspiration, Hotline Miami. While the base version suffers from a frustrating technical hiccup, the issue is limited to handheld performance on older hardware. Even though Kusan was my first foray into this genre, I had a blast from start to finish and can confidently recommend it—whether you’re new to this style of game or a die-hard Hotline Miami fan. It’s a pack worth following.

Ultimately, Kusan: City of Wolves takes a well-established concept and adds a very strong layer of identity on top of it. Fast and visceral gameplay is one of the title's highlights, alongside a sound design and aesthetic that impeccably accompany this journey of redemption. Steeped in style, with excellent animations, Kusan is a stunning neon world with its own unique way of telling a gritty story through a graphic novel. This game exceeded every expectation, even having played the demo. I sincerely hope we one day see a successor, even if it’s just to parry the brains out of every wolf once again.
"When Hotline Miami meets John Wick." Few games live up to a developer's pitch this perfectly. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, Kusan: City of Wolves delivers. It's brutally difficult, but once it gets its hooks into you, it's hard to put down.

Kusan: City of Wolves is kinetic, deliberate, bloody, and fun. There are many ways to play it, which is commendable for individual expression and replayability. I hope it finds an audience and a tight community to show us how the game can really be played.
Since the Danish studio Dennaton Games no longer feels the need to expand the genre they defined, I’m glad that developers like CIRCLEfromDOT are adding their own “DOT” to the mix with games like Kusan: City of Wolves. On the one hand, it scratches that Hotline Miami itch that just won’t go away, but on the other hand, it also adds things you didn’t even know you were missing.
