Every so often a game jam produces something special that is both interesting and commercially viable. A game like Superhot.
Superhot's novel premise is an emphatic transition to its promise; playing Superhot actually feels as awesome and energizing as it looks. Plenty of shooters (and plenty of games) have played with bullet time, stopping time, or some otherworldly manipulation of time, but none have married its passage to movement quite like Superhot. It not only adopts and plays with this idea; it pushes and refines it to its logical extremes by discarding anything that might get in the way.
While it may lack the flamboyant charisma of Hotline Miami, SUPERHOT feels as good in every other regard.

It's a phrase people who've played the game keep using, and there's a memetic reason for that -one I won't spoil. I will, however, have to say that I'm on board with the sentiment of the phrase despite any potential ironic usage. Because it is simply true. Superhot is the most innovative shooter I've played in years.
From the opening stages to its thrilling conclusion, every single moment within SUPERHOT is a memorable one. Even a year removed from its initial release, its innovations are unmatched. Even those that aren't typically a fan of the genre owe it to themselves to check out one of the finest games released in years.
Playing SUPERHOT is fun even when I constantly fail because I know the game is now cheating in any way and that next time I have a chance to be more stylish, better prepared, smarter and faster to reach a new high score in Endless Mode or deal with another of the challenges.
SUPERHOT is one of the most immersive, creative and fun games made in the last few years, focusing on its strenghts and maximizing everything that it could take out of it. It's one of the examples of how much videogames can deliver unique experiences that are unmatched by other medias.

A puzzle game dressed like a twisted, Cronenberg-inspired shooter, Superhot's methodical, slow-motion approach to the genre is as cerebral and deliberate as it is unhinged.

It might look like a shooter, but Superhot's unique game mechanic - Time moves when you move - means the game plays out more like a puzzle. You'll punch, slice, and shoot your way through waves of red shapes and feel awesome while doing it. It's over pretty quick, but once you're done, there's still a whole host of challenge levels to tackle.
The slow-motion combat might not be for everyone, but I found it to be just as exciting as any twitch-based shooter. Being in control of the situation at all times is exhilarating, especially when one wrong step could mean certain death. But don't worry, there's plenty of time to choose each step wisely.
SUPERHOT is a unique and inventive game, very stylish and with an interesting narration. The campaign is a bit on the short side, but there's a lot of potential for replayability.
