.hack//G.U. Last Recode destroyed any expectations that I had for a remastered RPG from ten years ago. The mechanics and visuals work well and with an increased speed and reworked mechanics getting through the game's low moments aren't so bad. I always tend to prolong beating RPGs because I get too attached to the characters, but the way that Vol. 4 Reconnection concluded the series was as good as a conclusion can be as I found myself content and ready to move on to the next adventure.

Character depth and a plot that stands the test of time. .Hack//G.U. Last Recode on the Switch is a masterfully ported game that will be sure to engage you for hours on end. You will wish you were in "The World" for real. The Switch does have some hiccups here and there from frame stutters to wonky aspect ratio messing up the mini map.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode is an amazing entry point for new players and a very rich package for long time fans. In other words, it deserves to be enjoyed by everyone. All changes and additions made to the games are justifiable and the new volume revitalize the franchise. This collection shows how remasters should be done.

The release of .hack//G.U. Last Recode is a celebration of what I consider to be CyberConnect2's greatest achievement in gaming thus far. It's an excellent way for newcomers to experience one of the most underrated JRPGs in the lengthy and excellent catalogue of PS2 games.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the PS2 game, as well as anyone who wants to check out a series that has withstood the test of time.

.hack // G.U. Last Recode is a good opportunity to try the popular PS2 series in a more pleasant wrapper and with the correct game changes that make your life in a virtual world more dynamic, but at the same time retain the charm of the original. If you like jRPGs with an interesting storyline, simple and understandable action-mechanics and a powerful soundtrack, then this compilation is sure to please you.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode is a great attempt to modernize an older franchise. All the improvements made by CyberConnect 2 were not only needed but welcomed. Sure it still suffers from designs of its time but that shouldn't deter you from a good overall experience.

.Hack//G.U. Last Recode is a huge walk down memory lane that offers tons of content and replayability. The game does suffer from some repetitive features and a lack of strategic enemies. But overall .Hack//G.U. Last Recode is a great JRPG that feels perfectly suited to the Nintendo Switch.

An excellent remastered collection that fixes many shortcomings of the original three PS2 RPGs.

Last Recode is a very well done compilation, which includes three games that never saw an official release in Europe and a brand new fourth one. That's a lot of quality content for just fifty bucks.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode is worth your time, especially as you get four games for the price of one with this collection, and each title is a strong effort. It'll keep you occupied, especially during a period where there aren't many new JRPGs out. For everyone's sake though, we can just refer to this collection as Last Recode rather than .hack//G.U. Last Recode, right?

This is a great collection of remastered games that aims to improve many of the shortcomings from the original trilogy, although it hasn't aged well in term of gameplay, the story and characters still remain a highlight for the series.

.hack//G.U. Last Recode is a remaster of PlayStation 2 games... and it shows. The resolution is crisp and razor-sharp, but there is no hiding how basic these character models are. Lead characters fare best, but most NPCs are hopelessly devoid of detail or articulation - typically stuck with frozen expressions, too. On Nintendo Switch, .hack//G.U. Last Recode runs a perfectly stable 30 frames per second. The new bonus chapter is an epilogue where gamers can find out what has happened to all the characters that they have grown attached to. It is a welcome addition and lasts a few hours, but is ultimately unnecessary.

.hack://gu is a great JRPG series with a lot to love for any fan of the genre, whilst the game does fit in after the original .hack series, it is not a necessity for one to have played all four of the original games but it certainly helps… If you can afford it. WHY Bamco decided to do these 4 as the first bunch of remasters is beyond me because it would have made a lot more sense to do the far superior games first helping people to get more out of “The World”.

It feels a little funny to review .hack//G.U. Last Recode for the Switch. Diehard .hack// fans like myself just needed to be told when and where to buy it with no questions asked, and those who have never dipped their toes into the title (or franchise as a whole) have three current platforms to choose from with a basic understanding of what one can reasonably expect from any of them. To that end, I’d like to close the review on this note: .hack//G.U. Last Recode is worth the money no matter which platform you buy it on, but if you want to support some of the most creative and dedicated developers out there, pick up .hack//G.U. Last Recode on the Switch — don’t let Cyberconnect2’s blood, sweat, and tears go to waste.

You're getting a lot of game for your buck, and a great story to boot, but be prepared for some repetition.

Last Recode in my opinion is worth trying out and I do hope that Namco Bandai consider doing something similar for the first series, as those too are extremely expensive and were never released digitally.

Last Recode has its highs and lows, but overall I think that as a bundle it has a great amount of value to it. Players have the ability to play as Haseo and go to different areas after the main quest indefinitely, allowing fans to live out the last days of The World R2 forever, or play high definition versions of their favorite decade old game. Regardless, the closure that Last Recode brings is probably the greatest feature this title could bring, and that means we can rest a little easier tonight.
