Devil May Cry HD Collection is a lazy work by the developers: compared to the previous HD remastered it doesn't add anything and it even more accuses the old age of the saga.

In the end, the Devil May Cry HD Collection is a lazy port of a set of lazy ports from six years ago, but it is technically the best way to play two fantastic games – and also Devil May Cry 2.

Coming back to the Devil May Cry series is kind of a bittersweet experience; the games are still relatively competently made and the first and third entries stand out as pinnacles of the Hack-n-Slash genre, but the overt lack of care that has been afforded to this collection makes me reticent to recommend it to all except those who possibly haven't experienced the series yet and are curious to see what all the fuss is about.

I was a bit torn on what to rate this collection. If you're basing it on the games alone and you're a first-time player, then this is easily a 4/5 star title. On the flip side, if you've already played, owned and beaten these games and already have the HD Collection that was released in 2012, then this is a 2/5 because Capcom didn't even bother adding anything worth re-purchasing this title for outside of owning it on current gen for convenience.

Devil May Cry HD Collection is worth getting if you have never played the games before as they all offer frantic and enjoyable gameplay rarely seen in this generation. It will also give you some experience until Devil May Cry 5 gets released in the near future as speculated. That said, this HD Collection seems pretty redundant if you already played it on PS3 and Xbox 360. Not to mention visually the game still looks very outdated by modern day gaming standards…

Devil May Cry HD Collection is one of the most lackadaisical remasters that I've ever played – featuring little improvements on the same collection that released for older consoles back in 2012. That being said, the sheer strength of the games included (Devil May Cry 2 notwithstanding) and the modest asking price still make it a more than viable way to experience these games before an inevitable sequel.

It's great that the first three entries of the series are now available on current gen systems, but it's hard to ignore that the Devil May Cry HD Collection is essentially a re-release of a port of decade old games.

At their best, the Devil May Cry games are – and will always be – brilliant, but couldn't Capcom have given them back to us with a little more Dante-style panache?

If you expected something new from this version, too bad. Except that it now runs in 1080p/60fps, Devil May Cry HD Collection is the exact same compilation it was in 2012. Nothing more was added, the first two episodes feel quite old in terms of gameplay compared to a still fun DMC 3. And that's it: decent for newcomers, useless for those who already know them by heart.

The HD Collection offers nothing new and looks technically dusty. Only suitable for those who want to catch up on Dante's first performances.

Out of the three games in this collection, Devil May Cry 3 is the only one to stand up to the test of time.

When factoring in on whether or not I can recommend this game to newcomers to the series, I honestly do not think I can; Devil May Cry HD Collection‘s re-release poorly-made compilation fails to show what made the franchise as popular as it is, while old fans of the series will be disappointed to see this game is nothing more than a rehash, and obviously, if you did not like the series already, then there is a high probability that this compilation will not change your mind.

Devil May Cry HD Collection includes a high quality trilogy, but even if the games are very good, this remastering doesn't do them justice. Except for better resolution and action at 60fps, it brings nothing really new. Although technically outdated, its gameplay and story are still fun and entertaining.

Despite lazy efforts of Capcom, Devil May Cry HD Collection definitely will please fans of the cult series from PlayStation 2, thanks to the distinctive style, hardcore gameplay and favorite characters in DMC and DMC3.

The chance to properly spruce up Dante's first three adventures has been missed here, and instead we get the already miserly remasters that appeared on PS3. At a time where it'd be great to remember why Devil May Cry can be so good, we get minimal effort and Devil May Cry 2.

The Devil May Cry HD Collection on PS4 may essentially be a straight port of the PS3 version that released in 2012, but ultimately, that doesn't detract from the overall experience. The original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 still stand strong, and while the second game is easily the weakest of the three, there's still some enjoyment to be had at the very least. If you've already played through the collection on PS3 then the value of this port is undoubtedly diminished, but for everyone else - newcomers included - this is a fine way to get acquainted with Dante.

Another bad porting of a mediocre collection, that definitely doesn't stand the test of time. It's pretty pricey as well, and the only title worth of your money is probably Dante's Awakening. It could – and should – have been better.

It is nice to have these three games to complete the entire DMC anthology on my shiny new console. I enjoyed revisiting all three games as they are definitely memorable parts of my past.
