Strange Brigade is a flawed but entertaining game that I'd gladly up the final score to an 8.5 or even 9 if some of its problems are fixed in a future patch.

As it stands, Strange Brigade is a blast, with some great hooks that lend the game to some readily accessible fun. It's just a bit of a shame that the potential is being eked out for DLC.

Strange Brigade brought me the most laughs of any game I've played in a long time and really packs the fun to boot. The narrator's wit brings so much personality to a premise that we've seen before that it feels like an entirely new experience.

Strange Brigade, with its pulp magazine taste, is a good action co-op to play among most demanding titles. Unfortunately, the amount of content at day one is limited, holding back the score, although Rebellion has announced additional campaigns and new characters to expand the game after launch.

Should you buy Strange Brigade? If you have some friends looking to invest some time in this game playing with you (and some money too, since they'll have to buy their own copies) then yes, absolutely. With pals, this is a great ride. Looking to go solo? Um, it's a bit more of a hard sell. You can jump in with people online of course, but it's not the same as your friends being along for the ride.

While far from revolutionary, Strange Brigade makes it hard to dismiss it as “just another horde shooter”. The pulpy adventure aesthetic and the focus on the use of traps are a definite draw, and while a more interesting, self-aware story would have been nice to see, it's the satisfying shooting, well implemented online co-op, and interesting game mode variants that help stave off the tedious repetition that quickly end up haunting many horde shooters.

Strange Brigade is immensely fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously and allows wonderful interplay between the characters.

A title that wins if you play it with someone else but does its job very well: effective online fun and with the necessary playability to enjoy your adventures over and over again.

If Strange Brigade has the good idea to offer an original set and tone in the kind of cooperative shooter, it does so either too late or too bad, but in any case, it does not fully convince. Especially against the competition already in place.

Strange Brigade's serviceable but flawed gameplay and forgettable story make for an incredibly generic third-person shooter, but its charming personality, great level design, and well integrated puzzles make for a B-movie romp that's a lot more fun than you might initially expect, even if you plan to play alone.

Entertaining co-op shooter with loosening puzzles that plays best at higher player counts.

Scoring Strange Brigade was a tough proposition. When the game works and you're in the thick of combat with friends fighting alongside you, it sings. However, there are moments when it doesn't quite come together, and the adventuring feels like an asinine dawdle through a variety of pretty locations. However, it's key to state that these are incredibly pretty locations.

Strange Brigade is a solid third-person shooter that doesn't bring anything fresh to the genre besides its charming, over-the-top campiness which makes the game shine and not take itself too seriously. The gameplay is nothing new, but everything is executed seamlessly, and the game is relatively quite enjoyable minus a few frustrating hordes of inconvenient undead. Rebellion has provided an enjoyable game that is well-done, especially for fans of third-person shooters, but many players will have fun playing with friends.

I've seen low-effort cash-grabs by people with no imagination, and Strange Brigade isn't that. The folks at Rebellion had a unique vision for Strange Brigade that wasn't content to merely tap into the typical 80s nostalgia or other hot cultural icons of the backward-looking 2018 pop culture. So there, I guess I found something nice to say.

At its best, Strange Brigade is a solid time-killer with plenty of class and brass to its name that is best enjoyed with a few fellow adventurers at your side as you tackle co-op conundrums. Hit or miss gunplay hobbles the experience, but at least Strange Brigade has plenty of charm and style to fall back on.

Strange Brigade is a guilty pleasure that's not easy to resist to: despite a few flaws, Rebellion managed to create a competent third person shooter that oozes with character.

In conclusion, Strange Brigade gets much more right than it does wrong, and it proves the power of co-op yet again. Played alone, this game isn't worth the time or effort due to the tedium. However, add in a friend or three, or at least some decent randos, and suddenly the game takes on a whole new feel and it instantly becomes a treat. It's certainly not the first game to prove this phenomenon, but nevertheless, if you have some buddies to play with, keep Strange Brigade on your radar.

Strange Brigade is a robust online cooperative experience to play with friends and strangers alike. The presentation is hands-down one of the best experiences I've seen this year, from the visuals, level design to the game's music and sound effects. Also, I tip my hat off to the talented Glen McCready who continually narrates throughout the adventure. It's a shame that the character doesn't have additional outfits or customization outside of weapon loadout at launch, but with free and paid downloadable content in the future, Rebellion may be supporting this fun third-person shooter for quite some time.
