Warriors Orochi 4 suffers from lots of problems and issues, and if you are not familiar with the series, think twice before going for it, as there are far better options available on the market. But for the hardcore fans of the genre, Warriors Orochi 4 can be entertaining, especially for those who doesn’t like the open world setting of Dynasty Warriors 9

This is a typical Musou experience with some new mechanics added to it, while some elements don't really make a difference fans of the series will have fun playing for lots of hours and trying various characters.

It is so difficult to recommend Warriors Orochi 4 right now when the series has made a name for itself through re-released games with added story content, characters and modes. Why would this title be any different? The main story is an enjoyable enough ride for hack and slash fans, but that's really all there is to it (unless you have an online subscription and want to battle with friends). Just wait for the inevitable ultimate edition in a year's time.

The story is take it or leave it and Warriors Orochi 4 isn't too welcoming to newcomers in general. If you are a fan of the Orochi games and have a need for this on the go, I guess the Nintendo Switch is the only way you can go. However, in every other instance, there would be other versions of the same game I would recommend more.

Warriors Orochi 4 is a true celebration of what means to be a great musou. Proud of its essence and its mission to deliver its own style of fun and unique gameplay, everything was done with the fans in mind, making it one of the best games of the genre in this generation.

I must say that Warriors Orochi 4 is one of the best installment in this unique series. As always, gameplay is the key part in this Franchise and Warriors Orochi 4 provide you with an entertaining and fun gameplay elements that could satisfy you for many hours of playing it. 170 playable characters from Warriors Orochi, Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors series as well as some new characters, create one of the most huge roster in gaming history and meaningly increases the replay value of the game. Although Warriors Orochi 4 has some issues like repetitive level design, weak AI and lack of challenges in many parts of the game, but as a full package, it is a valuable and entertaining game. Warriors Orochi 4 is a must-buy game for fans of 3 mentioned series, and can be a good start for gamers that are new to this type of games.

However, a few nagging issues keep this sequel from reaching top-tier excellence. The lack of playable Koei Tecmo franchise icons, the passable at best visuals, and an uninteresting plotline knock it down a few notches. Warriors Orochi 4 is the type of Musou release that diehard fans will get a kick out of. As for everyone else who’s grown tired of these types of games, this sequel won’t rekindle your past appreciation for them. Ultimately, Warriors Orochi 4 is still a good time.

It's pure fun, and with Warriors Orochi 4, Koei Tecmo has done such a lovely job that I suspect I'll be coming back to it frequently for many years into the future.

Warriors Orochi 4’s offering of a massive roster and the ability to use magic in combat makes for a fresher experience that fans of the series will enjoy though it's repetitive nature still lingers for those who aren’t fans of the series’ signature element of taking down entire armies on your own.

Sometimes a game comes along that completely splits your opinion in two. Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate is one of those games for me. It is the latest instalment in the Warriors Orochi crossover series; which fuses together the worlds and characters of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. I have always had a “love or hate” relationship with these games, as such I can see both sides of the argument. I’ve enjoyed time with some titles from this genre over the years but I’ve never really fallen hard for one. There’s a couple of things that really turn me off about this game. Firstly, it’s an almost perfect example of an adolescent power fantasy. I’m aware that many popular titles incorporate this theme and as a player, a part of us wants to live this fantasy (we’ve all taken to the streets of GTA with mayhem in mind), but Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate’s sole purpose is this yearning for power and destruction.

While I don’t think this is the best game in the series, Warriors Orochi 4 is far from a bad game. The game runs at a solid framerate, the combat is fun and there are tons of enemies to slay. The lack of alternate routes and some dry storytelling do set this one back a bit, but the massive cast helps make up for it somewhat. You’ll get 20 to 30 hours of gameplay out of this one for its $60 price tag. If you’re a fan of Musou games there is still a lot to love here, but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed since I was expecting something on par with Warriors Orochi 3 and this didn’t quite live up to that.

Warriors Orochi 4 is another game in the series. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel and basically stays the course. It’s good for fans, but if you felt like there was something missing before, then this one won’t do much to change your mind.

Perhaps the largest issue with Warriors Orochi 4 on Nintendo Switch is that it is on the Switch. With both Fire Emblem Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition available on the console, choosing a lesser version of the game with less recognisable characters isn’t realistic. If you want a good hack-and-slash game then there are already two here, this just doesn’t come close.

Warriors Orochi 4 is probably the biggest hack and slash game ever made. Even though its gameplay is pretty straightforward, you can certainly find fun in it.

Warriors Orochi 4 is just another Musuo game with improved gameplay, additional features, and more characters to choose from. Still, it gets boring and tiring to play in the long run if you’re alone, and I’d just put this in my gaming shelf until another player convinces me to play it together with me. I still had fun though, don’t get me wrong.

Mixes bland enemies and environments with spectacular bosses, playable characters and effects. Repetitive and sometimes a chore but the story is worth SOME of it.

A great, relaxing button-masher you can turn your brain off for and just power through and watch legendary heroes become friends, though it is missing a sense of wonder this time around that not even the Greek and Norse gods could replace.

Overall, with a cast of over 170 characters to play as, an absolutely insane amount of character dialogue and an equally insane amount of enemies to slay, Warriors Orochi 4 will keep you busy for hours and hours on end. The story mode featuring missions that take anywhere from 7 to 20 minutes each to complete results in satisfying battle sessions that are rewarding. Gameplay is excellent despite being repetitive hack and slash based since it is quite simply, incredibly fun and implemented in a non-aggravating non-grindy manner. The sheer number of characters each with unique weapons makes Warriors Orochi 4 a must buy game for fans of the musou game genre and is quite easily one of the best fun games of 2018.
