Although Hollow Knight: Silksong is not a perfect experience, and its flaws could have been easily avoided, it remains a great experience and a successful sequel to one of the most amazing indie games. Most aspects of the combat style and level design have evolved significantly, demonstrating the maturity of Team Cherry, which has preserved and even surpassed the great visual and audio experience of the first installment. A true masterclass in how a Metroidvania should be made, Hollow Knight: Silksong improves on everything the first game offered and opens the door to new strategies and combat varieties. The difficulty is also higher, which serves as a warning for new players. Even so, it’s an incredible game that every fan of the genre should play.

You reader, might not enjoy the game for its difficulty, but for me, it respects my time, and wants me to improve. It doesn't hold my hand but rather guides me to seek mastery. Isn't that what makes games fun? Silksong reminds me and many others how much fun a game used to be. . . I am glad that there exists developers who also remembers those time.

Landing the final hit of my Silksong playthrough felt surreal not just because of it finally releasing, but because, in many ways, it contains everything I have been chasing after in the medium.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a beautifully crafted Metroidvania that rewards exploration and dedication to seeing every corner of Pharloom, even if its difficulty feels artificially inflated and limiting than one would like.

Silksong is a flawed masterpiece. Team Cherry has raised the bar beyond every single aspect of Hollow Knight, but in doing so, overstepped the line between satisfying challenge and punishing frustration. With a truly compelling and sprawling world alongside intuitive movement and combat, Silksong has every single ingredient for perfection. But many players will be unlikely to enjoy the full experience. For those willing to endure, Silksong will entrap you in a compelling experience that’s a joy to be relieved of.

With a subtle story similar to its predecessor, Hollow Knight Silksong creates an interesting, captivating world that contrasts beautifully with the first Hollow Knight. It's a game made with love, priced affordably, that democratizes the game in a struggling industry, and I have nothing but praise for Team Cherry.

Hollow Knight: Silksong impresses with the attention to detail in every aspect: Hornet's agility refreshes both combat and exploration in the meticulously crafted world. The impeccable setting brings Pharloom to life, making it a fascinating kingdom to explore, full of secrets and memorable moments. Despite this, some excesses and the punishing difficulty may turn fascination into frustration, requiring a bit of persistence. Even so, Silksong stands out as a memorable and grand experience, capable of both enchanting and challenging in equal measure.

Yes, this is a challenging game, and the Rosary Bead currency is in desperate need of refinement, but this is still an absolute joy to play through. Platforming is tightly designed, combat is both crunching and punishing, and the story beautifully told across this 15–20 hour adventure. Silksong is a game that not only meets expectations but often surpasses them. It’s haunting, challenging, and expertly crafted — a journey that lingers long after the credits roll. Minor flaws aside, this is one of 2025’s standout releases, and a game that firmly cements Team Cherry as masters of the genre.

Hollow Knight: Silksong improves on virtually every aspect of its predecessor and adds several new features that make the game a unique experience. The result is simple: this is one of the best titles released so far in 2025. Hornet's journey is highly addictive and shows us that, despite being long and full of anxiety, the wait for Silksong was worth it.

Silksong is an unapologetic metroidvania with extreme difficulty and plenty of backtracking. It’s palatable because the combat is precise, and the battles are fair with one minor exception we will discuss later. The last game that was able to burrow underneath my skin in a similar way was in early 2022 when Elden Ring released, which I don’t think is a coincidence. These two titles share plenty of similarities, but it’s the retro design philosophy that makes both titles so engaging. Silksong is Team Cherry’s Elden Ring Provide players with a massive, sprawling world full of mystery and intrigue. Then encourage exploration through curiosity and not waypoints. Silksong took at least seven years to develop and it shows because the magic comes from exploring Pharloom to the fullest. For the brave souls who are up for the challenge, Silksong will go down in history as a quintessential metroidvania experience.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a grand step forward from a game that was already excellent. With a stronger protagonist and story, improved mobility and exploration and familiar yet very different combat, as a fan of the first game, by the time the credits rolled, it’s a rare case where I immediately just wanted to keep playing more and more. It’s a game that no one should miss this year through and through.
