Super Mario Maker 2
Top Critic Average
Super Mario Maker 2 is similar to other Nintendo titles in that it offers a level of creativity not seen elsewhere in the gaming industry but also misses the mark in a few areas which other developers more than often get right. In particular, the online play is brilliant in concept but lacking in execution, which is more of an issue now Nintendo is charging Switch owners to play over their network. That being said, Super Mario Maker 2 succeeds where the likes of Little Big Planet or Dreams have failed in offering creators a rigid framework on which to build their creations, something even a child can have fun with. The options are less varied, but nothing can be truly be broken and very few levels are painful to play. Super Mario Maker 2 is absolutely essential for Nintendo Switch owners and another jewel in the crown of what is shaping up to be Nintendo’s best console. I give it the Thumb Culture gold award, since I didn’t have any stars or coins lying around.
If you have kids that like to build or draw in their free time, Super Mario Maker 2 is an excellent addition to their screen time. When they aren't around, you'll be equally enthralled with the game especially if you have a history with the Mario franchise. Small gripes like building levels on the TV pale in comparison to the overall enjoyment you'll get from this game's enormous amount of content. Super Mario Maker 2 is a must play game and will go down as one of the best games released for the Nintendo Switch.
Super Mario Maker 2 is everything you would want in a sequel, so do not delay and go play it now!

Super Mario Maker 2 is like a side-scrolling trip down memory lane for Mario fans minus the kids yelling "are we there yet" in the back seat. The sequel not only tickles your creative fancies but also adds a bevy of fun features not present in the first game, such as a new story mode, even more tools and the Super Mario 3D World style. Admittedly, the 3D World portion is a bit limited and isn't quite as feature-complete as the other styles. If you love designing levels or want to check out the Super Mario Maker 2 community's crazy concoctions, however, this game will have you exclaiming "Mama Mia."
"Grab your hard hats."

Super Mario Maker 2 is a great sequel to our beloved Super Mario Maker. We do not only get a offline single player mode with more than 100 levels created by Nintendo, we also get new online features and a much more enhanced level editor in which we can build with a friend together at the same time.

No matter which way you slice it, Super Mario Maker 2 is a juicy new addition to the Nintendo Switch library. The value here is off the charts: 100+ pre-made levels, a full course editor, thousands of fan-created courses to download and a full multiplayer offering. This is a Super Mario game that will evolve and enlarge over time as more created courses are uploaded by the community.
