The Surge 2 beats its predecessor in every aspect. One of the best souls-like games ever made.

The Surge 2 is about failure and success. Players are put into a dire situation and expected to survive, fighting against deadly humans and beasts that can easily tear through an adult human with ease. You will die, get pushed back, and expected to try again. This difficult journey through the quarantined city of Jericho can be vexing at times due to the lack of some modern conveniences but that makes success that much sweeter. Even with its shortcomings, The Surge 2 excels at providing a challenging science-fiction adventure overflowing with incredible boss fights.

Deck13 has learned from the first game and it has notably improved The Surge 2. Combat is visceral and fluid and the limb-targeting system remains brilliant. The level design has greatly improved and the bossfights stand out more, altough there are a couple of dull fights left. The developer still needs to learn how to write an interesting story though, because this one couldn't peak our interest.

The Surge 2 improves the gameplay of the predecessor with meaningful innovations, but has to accept compromises in graphics and bosses.

The Surge 2 keeps what was great about the first game and improves upon it many times over. It still has some issues but The Surge 2 is an incredibly enjoyable, hugely playable game

Sequels aren't always a safe prospect to bet on, but The Surge 2 is one investment that Souls-like fans definitely won't be disappointed with. The game's visceral combat, robust RPG elements, and immersive exploration mechanics come together to create a second outing that's just as compelling, if not more so, than its predecessor.

The Surge 2 has some marked improvements over its predecessor but doesn’t color too far outside the lines.

Deep, varied, and punchy combat make The Surge 2 worth the effort, even if you have to bear through its lifeless story.

The Surge 2 is a better game than its predecessor in many ways, and shouldn't be overlooked in a growing crowd of soulslikes. Pathfinding can still be a bit vague like its predecessor, but the dense environments are fun to explore and complement its weighty combat and robust gear upgrade system. Deck 13 polished what made the first Surge a decent B-tier game and doubled down on what it's good at, showing us how a good developer can learn and evolve from release to release.

It may make some of the same mistakes as the first game, but The Surge 2 still manages to improve upon it in every way, to create a brutal but rewarding sequel

The Surge 2 is a definite improvement over the original game in pretty much every possible way. Combat is much faster and smoother, with an offense-oriented focus that makes it even more engaging, exploration is much more interesting thanks to the improved world design and the story will keep players moving from one dangerous district of Jericho City to the next in search of answers. The technical issues currently found in the game, unfortunately, do damage the experience a bit, and so does the fact that, despite the changes, The Surge 2 doesn't offer anything substantially different from the original game.

The Surge 2 is a much better, engaging, and rewarding experience than the first game. Dozens of quality of life improvements, more interesting environments and characters, and the addition of parrying makes The Surge 2 a must-play for anyone who even slightly enjoyed their time with the first game. However, the game holds itself back from being an excellent souls-like with some poor lighting in areas, intense difficulty spikes, and a final area that is just plain unfun.

The Surge 2 does enough to tweak the formula of the original to iron out some of the creases that plagued the original game, these improvements overshadowing the game's hit-or-miss writing and occasionally recycled content.

Perhaps most important, for the first time, I actually felt like I understood the Souls genre with The Surge 2. It's the first one that made me actually feel anything other than annoyed and confused and that I wanted to actually stick around to see the end of. It still has issues, and I'd love to see more enemy variety, but I can safely say that I'll be back for whatever Deck 13 has planned next.

The Surge 2 is a very good Souls-like. The level design has really improved after the first episode, and the gameplay key features will procure good sensations to players addicted to challenges.

The Surge 2 builds upon the formula from the first game in the series with some notable improvements. The Surge 2 is still a grind-heavy game, especially if you want to fully upgrade your gear, and acquire full/partial sets for their sweet bonuses. The game features a much stronger narrative, a well-designed character creator, and an exciting cast of NPCs to meet throughout your adventure.

Deck 13 has taken everything that made the first game a solid Soulslike entry and has refined everything. The Surge 2 doesn't change the game but will provide an enjoyable time for those who enjoy the genre.

The Surge 2 builds upon the unique ideas of its predecessor to create a more engaging, sprawling sequel. A few bumps in the road do little to impede a satisfying construct of combat and customization.
