I absolutely loved my time with In Other Waters. I’m itching to dive back in and fully complete Ellery’s taxonomy logs, and I can’t wait to grab the companion book for more worldbuilding and lore. Despite a few mechanical flaws, I highly recommend In Other Waters for anyone looking to immerse themselves in an alien world for a few hours.

In Other Waters plays like a visual novel with more depth and better graphics, which makes it a perfect game for players to relax in provided they don't mind coming up with how the game's creatures look by themselves.

Despite some of its interface quirks, In Other Waters is a masterfully designed game, woven tightly into its music soundtrack and emotional chronicling of the relationship between humans, AI, and the environment.

Whilst it takes a longer than normal to get used to the controls and can sometimes feel sluggish, In Other Waters is a beautifully designed and wonderfully written exploration game.

In Other Waters is a pretty unique experience, characterized by an amazingly crafted art direction, but plagued by some flaws in the gameplay flow. We recommend playing it on your TV, because in handheld mode the UI and the text size can become pretty painful.

In Other Waters tells an intriguing tale that will get you thinking, but only if its slow crawl to the finish doesn't turn you away.

In Other Waters is a mesmerizing game about discovering the unknown. It has a minimalistic art design with great story-telling and simple gameplay mechanics. It doesn’t offer that much of a challenge, but it succeeds in delivering a relaxing experience with new perspectives about discovering a new planet, that despite the differences, is somehow like the Earth. If you want a good and well-made relaxing game, In Other Waters is a great choice.

Other than that, I came away from In Other Waters so pleased with the experience. While the action of playing the game is threadbare, the tone being set between the repetitive motions of exploration, your doctoral companion's calm demeanor, a serene and mysterious accompaniment, and the satisfaction of each new discovery makes for a divine experience. If you're looking for an interactive balm for your spare time or something to sate a sense of discovery without needing action-packed stimulation, sink into these waters and let them wash over you.

Looks can be deceiving, and while In Other Waters does look too simple for its own good, it's a title overflowing with depth. Between a well written script, intensely atmospheric sound design that begs for headphone use, and methodically slow pacing, it's hard not to think of Ellery Vas' expedition through the depths of Gliese 677Cc long after all is said and done. Moody and sombre, In Other Waters is a must read… and must play.

One casualty of doing video capture for every game I play is that titles that are much better suited to touchscreen play take a beating in terms of my opinion early on...

The concept behind In Other Waters is quite interesting, but its mechanics create a game that might not be attractive to a lot of players due to its slow pacing in a mechanic and a narrative way.

In Other Waters is a thrilling, non-violent gem focusing on discovery of life among the stars in a place humanity didn’t think to look. This game proves that sometimes simplicity is best, its minimalist approach to complicated technology an absolute triumph. The immersion is incredible, considering the genre, and the concept is dramatically fresh to the point where I literally feel in awe of how much has been accomplished by so little.

Sometimes, it can be a little slow, but that comes with the kind of game it is. It isn’t a bad thing at all. The narrative being told is gripping enough to carry you through these lulls. The text auto-continues to keep you moving forward, and the promise of further exploration means you don’t mind this.

This is a truly lovely game that shows us it doesn’t always have to be about guns, explosions, and epic battles to be compelling and interesting. If you’re looking for something a little bit different on Switch, In Other Waters should be right near the top of your list. It looks and plays like nothing else out there right now and that’s both refreshing and exhilarating in of itself.

Traveling into the deep oceans, replete with detailed biomes is not an experience that we get to have often. In Other Waters offers a meaningful storyline, unmatched music and a minimalistic yet beautiful UI. But perhaps the most interesting portion of In Other Waters is how it makes one interested in science and marine biology.
