Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a complicated beast. It's a vastly detailed strategy game that demands a lot of players. For those up to the challenge, there're hours and hours of content on offer here, in what is an impressive strategy titles. However, if you aren't versed in strategy games, you are going to struggle to get on with Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia as it offers new players very little help.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia it's not a game for everybody. If you're a pro on tactical and strategy RPG, you'll likely love it, even knowing if it's a harsh game when you are entering in it, it won't help you in your first play and that some decisions will, probably, make you scratch your head.

Even with a conservative concept regarding the classic Brigandine, and also considering that it is a lower-budget project, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia deserved more polish, especially in the in-game visuals and in several aspects of its gameplay that lead to be problematic and/or limited in much of what it does as both a macro-scale strategy game and a tactical RPG. However, the game has new features in its PC version that increase its replay factor, it has a good musical environment, a good connection between the types of gameplay in GSG and TRPG, and it is above all well written and illustrated. For these reasons, it's a title recommended for fans of the PlayStation classic, fans of high fantasy stories and anyone who wants to experiment with macro-strategic elements in TRPG, as there aren't many titles with this concept.

Though a bit thin on content, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia offers a solid tactical experience with in-depth mechanics that hardocre and casual fans alike may enjoy.

There's a beautifully detailed game just waiting to be explored inside of this sequel to a forgotten cult classic, one that will have hardcore RTS fans in their element if they can overlook a clunky campaign flow and dive deep into its many layers of strategy. Fortune favours those who are bold and prepared in Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia.

Brigandine The Legend of Runersia is a welcome return to form of a long forgotten stragey franchise back in the PsOne era. It is a deep and artistically inspired alternative to titles such as Fire Emblem or Valkyria Chronicles.

Overall, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is in-depth and complex enough for intermediate players whilst still being just easy enough for beginners to get into.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a good Strategy/Tactical RPG. But that’s all it is, it’s good but it doesn’t innovate over its contemporaries or bring anything new to the table. The main motivation for continuing is to see your nation succeed but the game does make that difficult with the repetitive but solid gameplay and frequent losses of high-level units sapping your motivation after extended periods of time. I would recommend Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia to those looking for a more typical tactical RPG experience if you’re coming off the back of a more introductory title such as Fire Emblem. If you’re a seasoned tactical RPG player, I would not go into Runersia expecting anything new compared to previous titles you may have played.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia isn’t your typical grand strategy game. If you love doing things like managing villages and testing your economic prowess, then maybe this isn’t for you. But, for everyone else, Brigandine is definitely worth your time. The entirety of each campaign provides an engaging struggle which puts your tactical combat prowess to the test, and its multiple factions provide detailed stories, each of which is sure to keep you hooked. Despite my gripes here and there, Brigandine really doesn’t need much in the ways of re-working. However, it’s apparently getting that anyway, thanks to its quickly approaching update centered around providing players with the ability to customize their campaigns as well as more in-depth player UIs. So, here’s to an already great game getting even better! Huzzah!

The Switch is a great platform for games to dip into for a bit when you have a few minutes, but Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia isn’t one of them. It’s a commitment.

This one’s a keeper; the best sRPGs are maddeningly complex while allowing for deceptively simple—but effective—strategies, and Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia ticks both boxes. The gameplay here is unabashedly old-school, and while that can cause some combat encounters (and with them, the overall campaign) to drag on, I continually found myself going back for more.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a fantastic strategy game, which is mainly based on gameplay and does not try to cover up its shortcomings in that regard with an epic storyline or anything like that. He presents us with a board to play on, explains the rules, and gives us free rein, and once we finish a conquest, we can start playing with another nation again, or use it on a higher difficulty. If you were expecting a Final Fantasy Tactics, a Disgaea, or a Fire Emblem, you will be disappointed.

Overall I still had a blast with Brigandine The Legend of Runersia. Though I had no previous familiarity with the original game, this long delayed sequel was a lot of fun. And even if it’s a little expensive at $49.99, you’ll more than get your money’s worth, with upwards of 240 hours of main campaign, as well as a challenge mode. While I do wish some things were more clear and that other things were more varied, I still think this is a must own game for any Switch owner. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t order the sweet physical edition from Limited Run Games while I had a chance. But if you’re a fan of tactical styled games and are eager for something meaty, Brigandine is the way to go.

In a console full of amazing tactical and turn-based strategy experiences, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia still manages to carve a small niche with its overwhelming, but rewarding gameplay. Not to mention the sheer amount of content it offers.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a good strategy game that has a lot of content to keep the player engaged for dozens of hours. Thanks to its great campaigns and good SRPG elements, this is a game that should be on the radar for the most passionate fans of the genre and its story.

Coming as a complete surprise, the quality of the art and characters deserves tremendous praise. A single story is interesting, avoiding typical RPG tropes, and engaging from start to finish, which makes it more insane is that there are six stories in this game. Frequently Brigandine will surprise you with moments of extra quality, like the frequency of the artwork screens depicting what's happening. The only thing holding back this title from being a truly phenomenal experience is the repetitive music, some small graphical issues battle-wise, and how much time the actual warfare can take.

The battles can take a little long, though it never really bothered me. That being said, the models and story could definitely be a bit better. Nothing reaches below par, but some polish would've made this adventure even more memorable.
