The series always gave the impression that it was created with only one goal in mind, to entertain the player with its extreme action, without having to worry about anything else, however this does not seem to be the case anymore.

Some may want a bit more polish especially in the graphics and online matchmaking but for what it does; Serious Sam 4 does it well and is a fun mix of modern and nostalgia that should keep fans of the series happy.

To be fair to Serious Sam 4, there is a real thrill to be experienced in the battles when that old, familiar gameplay loop really clicks.

Serious Sam 4 makes another attempt at being more than an average first-person shooter, but didn't have enough ammunition to blow me away.

I suppose fans of the franchise might still enjoy this latest addition but it's mostly a nostalgia trip now.

Serious Sam 4 takes a good care of the series' legacy and fans will be happy. But the visual style hardly meets modern standards and level-design is also a bit boring.

I don’t think Serious Sam 4 is necessarily a bad game, I just think that its disappointing in a lot of ways. It has been almost a decade since the last game, so I was expecting something that was a little more polished, refined, and well-thought out, even if it was “just another Serious Sam game.”

If you’ve played any of the Serious Sam games, you’ll likely remember they never were outstanding in the graphics department, mainly due to having so many monsters to fight on screen at once. Whilst some of the character animations weren’t the best, some of the level environments were amazing. We had a great time playing Serious Sam 4 co-op slaying hordes of monsters with lots of laughs at the hilarious and perfectly-timed one-liners.

Serious Sam 4 is the sad story of a franchise that tries so hard to adjust itself with the flow that forgot its own origins. The result is a game that can neither attract new players nor entertain the old fans. If you are looking for a massive, fast paced shooter full of strange enemies, Serious Sam 4 is not a solution for you.

Despite some (mostly successful) attempts to tweak the formula, this is, at its core, Serious Sam exactly how you remember it.

As a new Sam player, I had a ton of fun in both the single-player and co-op modes. I spilled a lot of sweat reloading the last save-game many times until I barely made it through alive. Finally succeeding in killing all the waves of enemies gives you that thrill of accomplishment that many games strive for but few achieve. The soundtrack is one of the highlights of the game. It works with the action very well except for inconsistent timings. Graphics on the other hand feels outdated, and not even the high-res textures can save it from appearing disappointing.

There's really not much to review in a Serious Sam game other than, it's still Serious Sam. The gameplay is fantastic and the story is cheesy as always, it's what makes Serious Sam 4 a great run n' gun shooter. While some people may like or not like the story, you can always skip it. If you're looking to continue the series, looking for something different to play, or mindlessly shoot everything in your way, I'd definitely recommend Serious Sam 4.

Despite many flaws, Serious Sam 4 has made my day. It’s been a while since I played a game where there was so much humor and action at the same time.

To cap it all off, Serious Sam 4 has heart. It’s fun to play with at certain moments, and it’s too overbearing in others. This game is proof that more isn’t always merrier. It’s almost the video game equivalent of a Michael Bay movie. It’s good to look at, it has jaw-dropping moments, but it just lacks substance. The first few games of the franchise are proof that a game like this can be great. This title, however, is far from that.

Croteam is still on a roll with Serious Sam. A saga that is limited to facing hundreds of enemies at the same time in the open field and never gets boring. Of course, let's hope that in the fifth installment the crusade of our Sam against Mental advances a few more steps until the inevitable final confrontation.

The absolute best Serious Sam 4 has to offer are things we've seen plenty of times before, and that just simply doesn’t cut it given the amount of annoyances it contains and how far other movement based shooters have come in the same time span.

If you like the idea of running and gunning, feeling well and truly outnumbered but having a chance to defeat the odds then this could well be up your alley. If you require a bit more polish and seriousness (pun semi intended) in your game then this may be more down a dark path.

It may not top Serious Sam 3, but even then, this latest entry in Croteam's beloved series is still a winner. Serious Sam 4 is fast, loud, insane, and just straight-up cool.

When it comes to Croteam, it’s the small touches that matters, and Serious Sam 4 is full of them. It maintains its classic chaotic style of arena shooting, improves in much needed areas. After eight years of the latest entry, is good to have Sam back.

Serious Sam 4 feels like a game that suffered through development hell. The core gameplay is still tight and satisfying. There are some innovative new ideas that expand on the series' longstanding formula. But there are a lot of elements that just don't fit, feel half-finished, or just distract from the best aspects of the game. I really hope the fans and Croteam can have an ongoing discussion about Serious Sam 4 and bring it up to a higher standard that everyone is happy with.
