Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition pulls out all the stops to give players enough reason to come back. The loading is insanely fast, the ray-tracing is absolutely delicious and the frame rates are buttery smooth. If you've previously struggled to get into Devil May Cry, this won't necessarily appeal to you any more than previous games have. But if you're looking for a killer app to show off either your precious new hardware or television, then you should look no further.

It has been almost two years since its initial release and yet Devil May Cry 5 remains on the pedestal as one of the best character action games available.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is Devil May Cry at its finest. If you skipped the original release this is a must buy: otherwise, the add-ons are fun but far from being essential.

DMC5SE occupies its own tried and tested safe space within the world of video games. It hasn't really progressed much since 4 and doesn't seem to have broken through any genre-defining boundaries to evolve itself beyond what it already was. As a series, DMC5SE is truly the pinnacle in terms of polish and content but by way of freshening things up: it plays it far too safe and sadly won't really blow your mind.

Very good choice for new consoles, however not as special as it should be.

just like the 8th generation version, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is still a masterpiece hack and slash, but this time with playable Vergil and much more faster loading of the game and technical improves like Ray-Tracing. Isn't playable Vergil just enough to go for Devil May Cry 5 again in 9th generation? Yes, it is!

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition adds even more style to what was already an amazing action game. Not everyone may feel inclined to pay for this again especially since Vergil is coming to the older versions as paid DLC. As a huge Devil May Cry fan though I’m very happy with it as the upgrades to the visuals, performance, load times, and additional modes alongside Vergil made me fall in love with this game all over again.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is a pleasure for players who still haven't had the opportunity to embark on the latest demon ride. Capcom reminded players of this blissful series in a great way. However, it is difficult to talk about a full breath of freshness here – it is a complete edition with a pampered setting.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is arguably the game Capcom should have always released. While the original was a powerhouse in every sense of the word, its pristine quality simply meant any imperfections were all the more noticeable. Vergil's return rounds out an already tight cast of characters playable with some of the most in-depth combat in the franchise. Turbo mode picks up the pace to challenge a player's physical and mental reflexes on every level. Legendary Dark Knight pushes the power of the PlayStation 5 by rendering large swarms of enemies on-screen, all for the player to kill. Devil May Cry 5 was already one of Capcom's best titles in years, and this Special Edition only elevates it.

Capcom managed to fulfill fans’ biggest requests for DMC5 and also freshen up its overall experience with the inclusion of new modes and visual enhancements. Vergil’s gameplay adds a new layer of excitement to all the demonic destruction thanks to his signature attacks and brand new skills. And getting to play around with his and the original trio’s flashy maneuvers in Turbo and Legendary Dark Knight Mode is an experience you’ll never forget. Having to leave your prior save progress behind and start anew is pretty disappointing, of course. But first-time players and returning veterans will get an equal amount of enjoyment out of this excellent special edition.

An enhanced version of the best hack 'n slash game on the market, with some nice additions that don't necessarily elevate the experience but do enhance it. The only missed opportunity is playable Trish & Lady.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition makes a great game even better with a new character, new modes, and overhauled visuals for next-gen consoles.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is the ultimate version of Devil May Cry 5. Including all of the additional content released for the original version and more, it makes a great game even better, it’s as simple as that. It’s a shame that ray tracing comes at such a cost when playing at 4K, but it still looks glorious without it, and if you want to make use of Turbo or Legendary Dark Knight Modes they can’t be used in conjunction with it anyway. The real draw for most, though, will be the chance to once again take control of Vergil, and he doesn’t disappoint. If you’ve been itching for more of the high-octane action that only the Devil May Cry series provides, you’d be mad to let Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition pass you by.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is the definitive edition of one of the best games released by Capcom. Whoever played the original can take advantage of technical improvements, new modes and Vergil. But, in general, the game remains basically the same, so I strongly recommend it to those who haven't checked out the original yet.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition makes a great action game even better. Although it doesn't quite contain as many additions as I was hoping it would, it's still an excellent game, especially for those who don't already own the vanilla version.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition perpetuates the formula already proposed by Capcom for the previous iterations of the saga. New modes, playable Vergil and next-gen support are the workhorses of a package that, especially at the proposed price, can not miss in the library of all those players who have never tried the fifth adventure of dante.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition brings Vergil to the party. The new character gets his own share in the game and you get to complete the whole story as the katana-wielding demon slayer. It brings a whole new dimension to this already cool game. Next to that, the game has various next-gen upgrades like ray tracing and a higher framerate. You'll have to choose which one you want to activate, so a full next-gen experience is out of the question. Still, a worthy upgrade to a brutal game!

Overall, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition is a lot of fun gameplay set with beautiful graphics. While light in the storytelling department, there’s enough here to keep fans happy and more than enough stylish demon slaying to keep this series engaging.
