Rainbow Six Extraction is an enjoyable tactical shooter that allows players to experience their favorite Siege operators in a new way. The game does struggle from being a bit repetitive due to the grinding process, but having a team to overcome challenges with makes the grinding experience more enjoyable. Missions do not feel like they are do or die; you can either retrieve operators in a subsequent mission or have them return naturally with time. If you are looking for a game that will have you grind for end-game material then you are in luck; otherwise, the game will feel like you have to work for every milestone.

That being said, there’s negatives like the progression system, the act of unlocking operators, loadouts for a zombie PVE shooter, and tacked on story mode. I couldn’t possibly recommend this to someone who is looking for their next Tom Clancy game to make them come back to the series. Rainbow Six Extraction is an expansion – just a weirder, disconnected, and unenjoyable expansion.

The only real question, then—and it’s one that haunts so many games operating in the endlessly ascending “games as service” space these days—is whether Extraction has legs beyond the initial thrill of disintegrating a Parasite with a well-placed headshot. Said staying power, though, might end up coming from the aggressive nature of the game’s difficulty. It’s still early days, but that sense of running, desperate and hunted, for an exit in the face of an overwhelming force helps Extraction feel as much like survival horror as the polished military shooter it’s taking so many of its cues from. The end result is thrilling and engaging in a way that a simple power fantasy can’t really match.

Rainbow Six Extraction is clearly not for most casual gamers. In fact, I would go so far to say that it feels like it's built for hardcore players only. Unless Ubisoft plans to massively tweak difficulty settings and play styles in the near future, Rainbow Six Extraction could end up being one of those titles that get lost between the couch cushions.

Rainbow Six Extraction stealthily moves down a well-trodden path, carrying a fairly uninspired narrative that could be described as hackneyed at best. OK, as pithy summations go maybe that's a little bit harsh. Sure, this won't be winning any awards for its high concept themes or originality, but does that really matter when it's so much fun to play? While Ubisoft hasn't reinvented the wheel here, it has at least implemented enough innovative ideas in its core gameplay loop to keep potential React operators engaged in the Archaean struggle. As with any title reliant on repeated playthroughs, there's maybe a slight concern on its longevity, however the promise of regular, free content drops, should be reason enough to warrant regular revisits. It's also worth noting that it's available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, courtesy of Uncle Phil's deep pockets.

Rainbow Six Extraction could have been a more fun and better experience if Ubisoft worked more on the content and offered a more diverse experience.

Extraction could have made much more sense as an add-on or expansion pack for Siege, not a full fledged standalone release with almost full price and no improvements whatsoever over an already great game.

Overall though, Rainbow Six Extraction, while it lasts, is a super solid time, a delightfully warped addition to the Rainbow Six stable of games that is a total blast when played with the right people. It also sweetens the deal that it's available via Game Pass, meaning there's really no reason not to jump in and get down to some good old co-operative strategy action.

It's hard to be sure if Rainbow Six: Extraction is a bold production or an attempt to take advantage of Tom Clancy's meat and milk. Still, there's no bad product, just a little too mundane.

Rainbow Six Extraction feels more like an expansion for Six Siege than a standalone game. It features a strong foundation that Ubisoft fails to build upon. Extraction can be a lot of fun playing with friends, but not so much if you plan on playing it alone.

Rainbow Six Extraction is an experimental spinoff that has some potential, with a solid foundation borrowed from R6 Siege. But the experience is constantly torn between stealth and action, and with the repetitive nature of the gameplay and limited content, it's tough to say how many will keep fighting to the end.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction is competent, fun and immersive, especially when experienced with other players. With solid gameplay and good visuals, the game eschews any major innovations, but stands out within the sub-genre, although it needs to resolve a certain identity crisis to reach its full potential.

The game used many of the strengths of Rainbow Six Siege, the characters and their abilities, the tactical character, the systems of destruction of the environment and the setting of barriers, and combined them with a cooperative game appropriately making it an enjoyable experience with friends.

Once you start playing Rainbow Six: Extraction, it's difficult to stop. From the XP feed to the randomized nature of the levels and objectives, there's enough to keep players coming back for quite some time, especially with the constant opportunities to pull off nice saves amidst the chaos and tension. It is a great alternative for Rainbow Six fans who crave PvE after playing PvP for so long, but it also gives single-player fans a solid opportunity to experience some elements from Siege. It's still early in 2022, and a bevy of other co-op PvE games are still on the way, but Rainbow Six: Extraction provides enough variety that it needs to be played.

‎Rainbow Six Extraction has surprised us for good. It is not just another cooperative PvE shooter in which to face hordes of enemies, but it has a tactical touch that brings freshness, and a structure of missions, progress, learning and difficulty that makes it very easy to get hooked on its formula. And it also inherits directly from Siege what today remains one of the best gunplays on the scene, becoming an excellent gateway for those players who want to start in Siege in a more relaxed way, without getting directly into the competitive component.‎

Rainbow Six Extraction is a great place for a lot of players to jump into the universe. This may not be a game for hardcore Siege players but that is okay. I believe that both of these games can live in parallel and move forward as platform games. Ubisoft is welcoming in a new group of players with this game and I am excited to see that. I had a ton of fun jumping in with a team and playing something a little different and less sweaty. It feels like it is okay to play this game and make mistakes and try again.

Rainbow Six Extraction changes up the series’ formula and delivers a fun tactical co-op experience that will entertain you for a few hours but will eventually start feeling a bit too repetitive. Playing this with two friends will vastly improve your enjoyment however and it really does reward smart team play.

‎Rainbow Six Extraction offers a lot of excitement. The game does not forgive mistakes, the level of difficulty is growing rapidly and for some time it has been necessary to have a team embraced. If you like challenges – it's worth checking out.‎
