Definitely one of the greatest modern strategy RPGs and a worthy successor to the classics like Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics. It's able to take the best from the famous games that inspired it, while adding plenty of unique and interesting features of its own. If you own a Switch and enjoy turn-based RPGs - then what are you waiting for?

Despite requiring the virtue of patience, Triangle Strategy is a great time. Grid-based battlefield lovers should definitely make a plan to play it.

Triangle Strategy is easily one of my favorite games to come out on Switch in the last year or so, despite a slow start and a few minor flaws. It’s a strategy game with enough unique mechanics that I never felt bored or like I had played anything like it before, and the story is ultimately a tale about the price people will pay to get what they want, and the consequences of the actions they’ll take in pursuit of their ambitions and ideals. I’m desperately hoping there is a follow up in the future, because Square Enix really blew me away with this one.

While slow to start, once Triangle Strategy sinks its hooks into the player, it is nearly impossible to put down.

Triangle Strategy does almost everything well. It looks great, sounds good, plays great, features an excellent story, and offers enough variance in its multiple paths to provide significant replay value. There’s no one element it gets wrong. Its biggest issue comes in how it puts these various elements together. If you’re okay with long story sequences with the combat taking a bit of a back seat, you’ll love Triangle Strategy. Despite the balance of these various elements feeling a bit off, each element is so well executed that this is still a must-play for fans of the genre.

Triangle Strategy is old school through and through, from its graphics down to the amount of investment it requires from the player. In a world after Fire Emblem: The Three Houses, the investment required might be a little too much for some, but those that give it the initial time and attention it requires are in for a slow burn of an SRPG with an amazing finish.

Both nostalgic and modern, Triangle Strategy is a well-designed strategy RPG that wields beautiful visuals as it does an engaging story. While it never lives up to the complexity of its predecessors, its willingness to so avidly place its players within the scope of its wartorn lands sets it apart as an excellent title for genre fans and newcomers in its own right.

The experience provided in Triangle Strategy is one you should not miss. Its grand story with excellent writing that changes the spelling of words like “jail” to “gaol” and domain to “demesne” left me wanting to replay it immediately after experiencing the ending I got. The brutal yet satisfying combat with so many unique characters fundamentally changes how an encounter plays out. As well as the gorgeous sights and sounds of the game with wonderful voice acting that suck me in and keep me in the realm of Norzelia. This game is worth every penny and the thirty hours and more of its wonderful experience.

You’ll get the most out of Triangle Strategy if you bring a little patience to the proceedings. It starts slow. It throws a lot of story at you. The most interesting tactical powers show up in later levels.

Triangle Strategy is unsophisticated in mechanics and level design, compared to the classics that inspired it, but it has good ideas, it's well-made and balanced, in addition to being one of the most suitable games for newcomers to TRPG. While this tactical RPG has some flaws in its script and cast, it is creative and eloquent in its political applications in narrative design and has a serious, believable and realistic tone in its theme.

It may not be the Final Fantasy Tactics 2 that myself and others were expecting, but, honestly, it’s even better than that. Triangle Strategy is its own game that manages to stand on its own feet, which is always impressive for a new IP. I only hope there will be more to come.

Triangle Strategy is a great SRPG that balances an enthralling story with overall fun gameplay. It could use a bit of balancing and the persuasion system doesn’t always work as you hope, but for the most part, this unique title stands out as a strong tactics game that makes your choices feel truly weighty.

In many ways, I keep going back and forth on Triangle Strategy. On the one hand, it’s not exactly the game I was hoping it would be when it was first announced. On the other hand, it’s also not fair to hold that against the game; it’s not whether the game is what I dreamed of but what it is actually trying to be and how well it succeeds at that goal. On the third hand, there are some actual issues there with what the game is trying to be, some places where it winds up falling short of the marks it sets for itself.

Triangle Strategy does what it sets out to do quite well. It’s engaging, the story is interesting if you’re invested in it and there is the ability to explore or ignore it if you want to. Unfortunately, the slower aspects won’t appeal to everyone, some might even be overwhelmed by the options, though it’s a solid strategy RPG that will give you plenty to do at home or on the go.

Triangle Strategy is perhaps a little slow to start and is challenging for those who might struggle with cutscenes and too much dialogue, but for everyone else, you are in for a treat.
