A fantastical setting and solid story can't disguise the fact that Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok has us running through the same motions as the main game a year and a half later.

Dawn of Ragnar'k is a generous new course for Valhalla's already enormous feast - but one which earns its place at the table.

The first post-season pass DLC is a substantial slab of new plot, gear, and abilities but never anything more than that. If you loved the base game, this is a lot more of exactly the same.

Dawn of Ragnarök doesn't tell a compelling story, but its introduction of god-like powers creates new avenues for how players can explore and fight in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

‎One of the most spectacular expansions in the history of Assassin's Creed and, without a doubt, the most extensive, with good stories to tell, although in the background it does not provide so many playable novelties.‎

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is fun and rich but shallow expansion. The mythic take on Assassin's Creed adventure could have been great thanks to a nice setting and the new powers, but it feels just another skin of the same structure, which works, yes, but after more than 100 hours, it probably needed something more.

With the recent influx of incredible games paired with the ample amount of innovative Norse Mythology games released in recent years, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok serves as little more than a familiar midnight snack for those looking for something to nibble on in between better games.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök is the biggest and most ambitious expansion yet, with great new powers to utilise.

More of that Assassin's Creed Valhalla Viking stomping you like, but with new magic, monsters, and a very nicely made world to play around in.

While it stumbles greatly in execution, Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Dawn of Ragnarök reignites the magic of the main game with a vast realm to explore and myriad secrets to discover using the new Hugr powers. It's still a ton of fun, just don't expect the story to be all that coherent.

While Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok has some brilliant ideas, it's far from the epic expansion that you'd want it to be. It's hampered by reused mechanics and a story that's woefully disconnected from your main character's arc.

Dawn of Ragnarok is a bit shallow and nothing more of a "more of the same". Still a decent content for the Assassin's Creed Valhalla fans, but it could have been much more.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Dawn of Ragnarok is a sizeable expansion offering a gorgeous new realm to explore, memorable characters, while new abilities such as the Hugr-Rip adds a new dimension to combat and traversal. Beyond that it's more of the same however, so that'll determine whether or not you'll want to dive back into Valhalla once again.

Thanks to its new weapons, excellent characters and nuanced narrative, Dawn Of Ragnarök comes closer than ever before to breaking free of AC Valhalla’s template. Though it can’t entirely escape some over-familiar mission types, Dawn Of Ragnarök does a great job of pulling together several strands from the main game and prior expansions. Svartalfheim and Odin’s quest give AC Valhalla renewed energy and should please both fans and maybe entice some newcomers to dip into the franchise. Dawn Of Ragnarök is a substantial and overall impressive addition to the series.

Dawn of Ragnarok does enough to satisfy by the time that the credits roll, but if you're burnt out on Assassin's Creed Valhalla, there isn't much here that'll reignite your interest. The mythological angle is well played, the fantastical setting is cool, and Odin makes for an intriguing lead, but after a year of DLC and updates, Valhalla's gameplay loop is wearing a bit thin.

Eivor steps into the shoes of Odin for a grand stomp around a gorgeously realized fantasy realm in what has become my favorite Assassin's Creed experience of all time. Great writing, gorgeous visuals, and a ridiculous amount of content make this DLC worthy of being a stand alone game. Beyond being highly recommended, Dawn of Ragnarok is an absolutely necessity for Assassin's Creed fans.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is a solid expansion that introduces some interesting gameplay mechanics and plenty of new content that, at the end of the day, doesn't change how the game is played in a significant way. After a long base game and two expansions, Dawn of Ragnarok definitely needed to be something more to become an essential purchase, as only those who haven't had enough of Assassin's Creed Valhalla will fully appreciate the coming of Ragnarok and the end of an age.

Ubisoft takes us by the hand and slowly leads us towards Ragnarok, in an expansion that reserves few flashes in terms of narration and staging.

Now, the bloat of “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” and its DLC releases make plain that developers need to seriously consider the value of making games longer — if anything, just to save gamers from dying on the inside.

Unless you’re a hardcore Valhalla fan or someone who is particularly enamored with finding a collecting the (admittedly cool-looking) new armor sets, wait for this one to go on sale to satiate your craving to plunder.
