Thymesia is a nice diversion - something that can keep you occupied until the next great soulsborne game gets released. That is its curse. It's a good game, with fast and enjoyable action, but lacks the immersive story and atmosphere, as well as the quality of level design and combat finesse that is expected from such titles.

In the end, the thing I love the most about Thymesia is that it doesn’t try to be anything more than what it is. It doesn’t ask you to spend more time than you should have to in order to fully complete it, while being just long enough to not only leave you wanting more but carefully not overstaying its welcome. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but this is a terrific first attempt from a new developer, and I’m going to be watching OverBorder Studio to see what they’ve got coming down the pipeline next.

Thymesia doesn't do anything new in terms of gameplay for a Soulslike, with some not that precise controllers and a little bit of framerate issues, the game is still a good point of entry for the beginners and veterans alike, specially thanks to it's focus on parrying.

Only Soulsborn fans will have the patience to deal with it until the end.

Plague infested Thymesia is a moody soulslike title, filled with only the most aggressive of moves and relentlessly badass playstyle. If you master the quick pace of sword slashes, parries, claw attacks and dodge without panic in your fingers, you won't be able to take a break from the satisfaction every successful duel gives you. Occasionally the game stumbles, but the epidemic atmosphere, badass protagonist and most importantly the visceral combat, will suck you back in right away!

As more and more games take inspiration from the Souls games and play with those mechanics, I hope more consider taking Thymesia‘s tack of seeing what removing a fundamental aspect has. The Souls-like designation is more than just mechanics at this point, I think, and seeing more games challenge what genre entails is something I’d like to see. Thymesia‘s choice to remove stamina is odd on its face, but the results speak for themselves.

Thymesia is one of those games that you should take its reviews with a grain of salt because it's an obviously clunky game yet its combat can be super-satisfying for the very specific kinds of gamers that it's targeting. Everyone else will probably find it too irritating to play.

Despite its uninspired level design, maze-like maps, and a lacklustre story, Thymesia manages to deliver on its gameplay which is fast, frantic, and fun. It does not stand shoulder to shoulder with its big league counterparts whose ideas it largely borrows, but it does implement them in a fine way. Considering its lack of regional pricing you should pick this up while it is on sale.

Overall there is not enough here to recommend to most players. Souls veterans will be left wanting more, and most likely frustrated by the limited options available to approaching combat encounters. Newcomers to the Souls-like games will most likely be put off by the initial difficulty, as well as the massive skill check that the first boss poses. A forgettable story, relatively bland world, and overly simplistic combat leave quite a lot to be desired after the initial hour or two with Thymesia.

Thymesia offers fun gameplay that is fast and easy to understand, but the lack of variety of enemies and their limited movements make it suffer due to boring repetition at times.

Thymesia is a game that show's the developer's potential, but doesn't reach the heights of its opening promise. While the combat is fast paced and fun, it is marred by hitbox and timing issues, and the story and lore lack depth to draw you into the mystery of Thymesia.

Thymesia is just another Bloodborne + Sekiro wannabe with small budget and big ambitions. On the other hand, it has something special inside it that keeps you playing on and on. And that's a great result for the small team.

All in all, Thymesia does a good job scratching that Soulslike itch but providing rewarding, robust combat and memorable boss fights. While it doesn’t nail everything, what it does right elevates it towards the top of the subgenre. And considering the game was made by a team of seven people, that is no small feat. I would love to see what Overborder can do with a larger support team and bigger budget. Thymesia is the real deal.

Thymesia will be a good choice if you are looking for a souls-like game with an interesting combat system. The game tries to differentiate itself with unique combat, which is nearly impossible to take a rest for a moment. And the execution system also feels great in your hands. Except for battles, however, You are going to need patience for its lack of stories and the overall volumes.

Thymesia is a LifeisXbox recommended game because OverBorder Studios understands how to make a great Souls-like experience. Thymesia is an indie game with a low budget that can proudly stand together with other recent games in the genre.

Thymesia has some well developed, in-depth combat mechanics that are well implemented and executed. And for the most part, it is an entertaining Souls-Like, though it’s been really overshadowed by Elden Ring and others in the genre that bring all these elements together in a more cohesive and enjoyable way.

Thymesia is a solid souls-like game. The story may be a tad bit lacking at parts due to its short premise but it makes up for that with amazing combat and skill systems while throwing some truly enjoyable boss fights and enemies our way to clash with. I really do hope we see more things to come for Thymesia like DLC or at least a new game plus.

Although Thymesia was a well-thought-out game, budget constraints and technical problems prevented it from fulfilling its potential.

All in all, Thymesia comes together to form an interesting combination of Sekiro and Bloodborne. You have the limited weapons, parry mechanics, and talent trees of Sekiro, and the movement speed, setting, and general gameplay feel of Bloodborne. Despite being only 6 hours long, I feel as if the $25 price-point makes Thymesia worth at least one playthrough if you’re itching for a new Bloodborne-like.

Thymesia reminds me the feeling of playing sekiro and bloodborne, its unique combat system have brought me 10 hours of freshing and exciting experience. However in the meanwhile, the game's plot, map design and other parts are rough. if you are a souls-like game fan, this is a game worth your time.
