Forspoken, much like its main character, looks for a time and a place to belong. Besieged by a series of delays, the game wishes to sweep players away with its vast world and spectacular combat but, much like its open world, may become directionless as players seek purpose.

Forspoken offers a unique and thrilling experience with its impressive combat and smooth traversal mechanics. The story and open world may fall victim to the pitfalls of its genre and the largely formulaic side quest design only shines occasionally, but it's an overall satisfying and well-crafted action RPG with fast-paced and energetic gameplay.

Forspoken feels like a breath of fresh air for open-world adventures with its stylish engine, but is held back by pacing and other foibles.

Rather than letting its awful story simply be a good excuse for its excellent gameplay, Forspoken insists on constantly interrupting your fun to throw some truly bad exposition your way. Forspoken's character building and lore are a disaster but it manages to make it up with its incredible combat and traversal mechanics.

Forspoken is a bland experience about a girl and her cuff trying to save a world blanketed in corrupting mists. It tries to do a lot of things but doesn't ever really do any one thing well.

Overall, while Forspoken has its fair share of glaring issues, I have to admit that I still enjoyed my time with its warts and all, as it managed to entertain and engage me with its combat system alone. However, with that said, I also can't, in good faith, recommend the game at its current asking price of $70 as its poorly executed story and other underwhelming elements prevent it from being more than an average gameplay experience to the average player.

Despite some moments of genuine enjoyment, with a combat system that does its best to entertain, Forspoken never makes the most of its potential. Ultimately, there are bigger, bolder and more inventive action games both already out there and soon to be upon us in an already stacked 2023 release schedule.

At this point you could make it a true Daily Double and just guess your way to the game's eventual kick off point, and you'd probably pull ahead of all the other contestants.

As a new title from Luminous Productions six years after FFXV, Forspoken continues to show the shortcomings of its open-world design. The abundance of magical combat and the still-excellent story make up for most of these shortcomings. However, the hopes for a fantastic magical world cannot be fulfilled.

Despite feeling like an open world from a previous era because of its structure, Forspoken it's pretty enjoyable thanks to its combat and exploration systems, that make it feel unique and spectacular.

It's not that Forspoken is a bad game, it's more that it doesn't knock your socks off. Beyond the standard regime of exploring, powering up, battling, and repeating, there is a good experience to be had here, but ultimately nothing much that is incredibly endearing to this particular game in my opinion.

When the excellent parkour and spirited combat mechanics work together as intended, they raise the game above its mundane peripherals. But, more often than not, Forspoken is bogged down by its by-the-numbers open-world design, its predictable story, and just a broader lack of imagination. By the end of its near-20-hour campaign, Forspoken hangs firmly in limbo, somewhere between fresh and stale.

The engineers who worked on Forspoken should be commended for refining the game engine, as well as the combat system programmers. The tech that makes the game possible is the showstopper- not the game itself. Aside from the game’s engine, Forspoken has dated open-world gameplay, a lame story, embarrassing dialogue, and the lighting sucks.

Forspoken is ambitious action RPG with the promise of a new world and gameplay possibilities, but some of them felt flat. Unambiguous heroine is a challenge but her view of the world is satisfying and there is a lot to fight for. Magic parkour and combat is solid, but controls are occassionally frustrating.

There's a lot I can't get over with Square Enix, but the fact that they made such a big investment in a new brand was a big deal for me. If only Forspoken could have taken the opportunity given by Square Enix much better. At least we still have Final Fantasy XVI on the horizon, right?

Forspoken is a massive open world game, and that's its biggest problem. It's unnecessarily big and there is not enough content and things to do to make up for this huge world, and even though the combat system, spell mechanisms and parkour gameplay are mostly solid, the final product feels shallow and unsatisfying.

Unsightly, but also a good game that desperately lacks polishing. Although not all the shortcomings can be put up with, in the end Forspoken leaves a pleasant impression - it is even a pity that we are unlikely to see a continuation with corrected errors.

Forspoken delivers one of the emptiest and shallowest worlds in recent open world games. The game suffers from ample Level design issues, disappointing story and repetitive missions and objectives. That being said, traversing the map is fun, loading time is incredible and diversity of Spells is impressive. at the end of the game, Forspoken is a mediocre game that could entertain you for some hours.
