This dystopian tale of Pinocchio does a lot to stand on its own two feet, but when you strip all the set dressing away, it is simply a terrific love letter to Bloodborne. It is rough around the edges with some balancing issues and environment clipping causing you to get stuck in corners too easily, but with enough persistence (and skill), Lies of P is one of the best non-FromSoftware soulslikes yet.

Lies Of P is a decent Soulslike, but it does squander the main opportunity that it had to differentiate itself. The “dark Pinocchio” theme is intriguing and the developers went about it with the right spirit, but struggled to convert it into something as thought-provoking and deep as it should have been. Take that out of the equation and you’ve got a Soulslike that’s a little heavy-handed in how it makes players engage with it, in a world that looks more inspired in screenshots than it is to actually journey through. Ultimately, as enjoyable as it is, Lies Of P stands testament to just how difficult FromSoftware’s formula really is.

Lies of P sets foot in a realm that many studios ventured into and failed, and even though it's still not at the level of the works by the great Miyazaki, it is one the best Soulslike games ever made.

Lies of P has managed to provide the proper Souls-like experience, in a mysterious world full of danger, and a hard-but-fun gameplay with much variety. It might not be the perfect Souls-like game, but it is indeed a great one.

Lies of P combines elements of Soulsborne games, adds some ideas of its own and puts it all into a beautifully set version of a dark world, inspired by one of the best-known stories in classic literature. Some of its combat mechanics may take a little longer to get used to, but that doesn't take away from Lies of P's merits in being one of the best Soulslikes released recently.

I genuinely had a fun time through the ups and downs of my experience, and I could say that Lies of P has the potential of becoming one of the names that would immediately be brought up when talking about soulslikes.

Lies of P is a very good Soulslike that doesn't quite reach greatness due to its lack of variety and needless limitations. That aside; what's here is still undeniably rewarding and entertaining so fans of the genre will enjoy what it has to offer.

Lies of P: Complete Edition arrives on Switch 2 as a competent port, recommended for both veterans and those wishing to delve deeper into the soulslike genre. The fact that even minor issues—such as balancing—do not prevent a recommendation stands as a testament to the quality of this twisted modern fable. So, rise up, Pinocchio: it is time to discover your role in the machine revolution that has taken over Krat—and now, the Nintendo console as well.

Lies of P: Complete Edition delivers an exceptional soulslike experience with rewarding combat, intricate level design, and outstanding world-building. Although the narrative loses momentum and the Quality mode disappoints, the excellent Switch 2 port preserves the game's strengths, making it one of the platform's finest action RPGs.

Lies of P: Complete Edition is a very interesting soulslike that, I admit, I waited too long to start playing. The game has some really cool features that it almost always manages to deliver successfully, in a way that makes you want to keep playing from beginning to end. I found the setting magnificent, especially the visuals of the city in the base game and its DLC. I liked the more aggressive and varied combat, the content we have access to, and the fact that the game ran perfectly in portable mode.

If Pinocchio is driven by the desire to be real, the developers at Round8 Studio are driven to create a work that stands tall alongside its peers. The truth is, at times, they manage to surpass them.

Lies of P: Complete Edition brings the best Soulslike to the Switch 2. While it's a mostly coherent port, there are technical snags that drag the experience down. A possible day-one patch could iron out these issues, but if you're curious about Round8's debut title, the port is enjoyable as long as you stick to performance mode in the interim.

Lies of P: Complete Edition gets everything right that we hoped for from a port of the game. It plays incredibly well, and the technical execution is clean. Both the main game and the Overture DLC are fully included in this version (and also on the cartridge, once available), giving you 60-70 hours of playtime out of the complete package. The weapon system invites endless experimentation, and Krat is an atmospheric powerhouse. We're hoping the sequel, Lies of P 2, also finds its way to Nintendo Switch 2. Anyone who hasn't played this title yet and is a fan of the soulslike genre absolutely cannot afford to miss it. An essential purchase.

Lies of P is a fairy tale that will make you love suffering… if you’ve voluntarily launched the game, you’re probably already familiar with this painful love. The game isn’t brimming with originality, but with the precision of a master watchmaker, it assembles familiar components into a functional and stylish whole. The atmosphere of decadent Krat, the dark take on a classic fairy tale, and the emphasis on challenging combat combine to create a powerful experience that, while sometimes frustrating, is also deeply rewarding.

Lies of P does not open the doors to a completely unprecedented adventure, nor does it reinvent the genre. However, it succeeds remarkably well at innovating on an existing formula by introducing fresh ideas. Despite its flaws, these minor imperfections never outweigh the game’s success in achieving what it sets out to do.

In the end, Lies of P: Overture is one of those DLCs that feels essential if you’ve played the base game; it completes the narrative in a meaningful and satisfying way.

Since its announcement, Lies of P generated equal parts surprise and skepticism with a premise that sounded ridiculous but ended up becoming one of the benchmarks of the genre. It is a game that managed to take a familiar concept and make it its own, taking a risky premise and developing it with surprising seriousness. As a result, the overall experience ended up being much better in practice than on paper. A video game that earned its place among the greats on its own merits.
