Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana Reviews
Adol may not be able to remember them himself being the professional amnesiac that he is, however, I will not forget this experience. Fantastically tight and responsive action combat, a light-hearted story, and dungeons to explore are what Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana promises, and it delivers.
Fun remastered version of a previous remake
I know from all of this it sounds like I don’t care much for Ys: The Oath in Felghana, but that’s not really the case. It firmly exists within the Ys series, and just as last year brought us that magnificent remake of Dragon Quest III, here’s an old-timey classic within the action JRPG genre for the people who appreciate it. Not everything needs to be deep and meaningful, and Felghana certainly isn’t that. But it’s easy to appreciate its place within one of the longest-running and most enduring JRPG properties of all time.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is an excellent remaster of an exceptional action RPG. The title delivers an interesting narrative and really fun gameplay in one of the most striking titles in the Ys series.

A classic Action RPG that looks and sounds better than ever, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana may not be for everyone, but those looking for something simpler will undoubtedly love this one.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a solid but unexceptional remaster of a fun but dated game. I still love Oath, and it remains one of my favorite Ys games, but you need to feel some nostalgia for the days of simple, button-mashing RPG action to get a lot out of it. If you're curious about the older Ys games, this is absolutely at the top of the list, but it might fall short compared to some of the more recent games. Ys is still Ys, and Oath is a great example of how being simple can still be fun.
While I'm a little less over the moon about this game in 2025, I'm still very happy that Oath in Felghana is out on a modern console in the west. From the era of its release, it's one of the best action RPGs of its style and even to this day, it's still a very enjoyable one. I might recommend some of the later Ys games ahead of this one, especially if you want a more true 3D adventure, but if your goal is to check out the highs of the storied Ys series, Oath in Felghana is a must-play.
In an age when it seems like bigger is always seen as better, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a lovely reminder of the fun in a restrained JRPG that simply focuses on telling an engaging story without all the added trimmings around it. While this remaster of the Windows and PSP games is not reinventing the wheel, with similar visuals and the same combat system, the core gameplay here is sure to win round a whole new set of fans who may not have played any of the original titles or even a previous Ys game. The characters are extremely likeable and the combat system - while definitely having its frustrating challenges - is hard not to get a ton of satisfaction from.
Ys Oath in Felghana Memoire is a nice re-release for a great hidden gem title that feels like it's only made for those who have enjoyed it previously, since it's lack of any QOL improvements made it difficult to suggest for new gamers

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is one heck of a wild ride that acts as a wonderful nostalgic time capsule. At the same time, it's so maddeningly difficult on the normal setting and the poor sense of direction can occasionally be a tough pill to swallow. ⚔️
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a terrific value to both newcomers to Ys and those looking to experience the story again with the updates it got. I would’ve preferred more substantial improvements, but the 12 hours spent in Felghana were definitely more than enjoyable and definitely represents a great start to the big huge 2025 that Falcom is poised to have–which should be music any JRPG fan’s ears.
An Ys classic remade and now remastered, The Oath in Felghana is the Ys series at its most punishing and retro. Frustrating bosses, challenging combat from one end of the land to the other, retro design, and a dull forgettable story, make this one for the die-hard fans only.
YS Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a remake of a version that took many years to release outside of Japan. While not a revolutionary remake, it offers a small and beautiful installment in the Ys series. If you’re a fan of the Ys series and the role-playing genre, it’s suggested to give this game a chance and enjoy playing it.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana stays true to its roots, offering the same fast-paced combat and engaging story that fans of the series have come to love. While the remaster introduces refined visuals, new character illustrations, and voice acting for Adol, it doesn't add enough significant content to entice players who have already experienced the PSP or PC versions. The boss encounters remain a standout feature, demanding precision and strategy, but the lack of deep customization and the potential repetitiveness of combat may deter some newcomers. For those who missed the original releases or are die-hard fans of the Ys series, this remaster is a worthwhile revisit. However, returning players may find the updates too minor to warrant another playthrough.
In a trip to the past, Falcom reissues the remake of Wanderers from Ys on consoles after its PC release. And what does this new edition bring? The best of the classic gameplay from the Ys series.

If you’re a newcomer to this game, you’ll have a blast and should look into buying the game digitally.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana has a very enjoyable, simple and intuitive gameplay, a great level of difficulty, delivering battles against really difficult bosses, and enemies that you will need to use your head to think about how to face, instead of simply mashing buttons.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is yet another excellent entry in a high quality action RPG series. With a very dynamic combat that demands precise movement and understanding of the mechanics and enemy patterns (especially the bosses), it's an easy recommendation for those looking for a fun game in the genre.

The action game has a very sweet taste, but for still a remaster, it looks its age, it's a short RPG game with good value for money and that can bring you a challenge and few hours of rest.

Twenty years have been what Ys fans have had to wait to be able to enjoy the third installment of the Ys saga on home consoles, since only the PC and the PSP were the lucky systems for it. Now, Nihon Falcom offers us a remastered version of the classic with some additions and quality of life changes to encourage old owners of the original to purchase it again.
